I saw this last night. I wouldn't say it was the best thriller I've ever seen but it was a bit different and had lots of unexpected twists. Quite a departure for Hugh Bonneville!

Anyone else watched it?

I found it very downbeat, not as clever at social commentary as it thought itself, very light on characterisation and a weird mix of frustrating horror movie clichés (don’t trip up, Toby! Don’t get in the car, Omid! At least put the Yale lock on to buy yourself some time in case he comes home, Liz! Don’t step on the creaky floorboard and then look down, Jay!) and a refreshingly brisk serial killer who just got on with murdering his victims once he realised they could cause problems for him. Unfortunately it would have been a less bleak film in many ways if the victim clichés had been avoided and the serial killer a bit more like the usual movie sort rather than the other way round.

Agree about Hugh Bonneville though, he was terrifyingly evil playing against type, the best thing in the film by far. And it was nice to feel sympathy for Kelly MacDonald, she often plays quite cold characters.

There was a very high profile case of a paedophile magistrate where I live (no kidnapping or murder though) so I didn’t find it that unbelievable that a judge could be so evil.

Also really like the cast. Evil Hugh with his basement incinerator (or whatever the hell it was) was creepy.

Would Police officers in the UK (think it was meant to be London) really bring someone in for questioning after finding one joint on a person? Thought they were too under resourced to even attend after house break ins these days from what I read on Mumsnet (I’m in Australia so no idea really). Pretty sure you’d just get a written expiation notice here.

They would if it was a young black lad in a wealthy white neighbourhood, unfortunately.

I thought it was one of the worst things I had watched in a while , really didn’t get the hype about it . And I’m still confused about the last man he kept. The ending was too abrupt too

All of this.

Terrible film. Really terrible. Didn't make sense, and played fast & loose with the 'rules' too.

Toby was utterly unbelievable as Kelly McD's son - rightly so as he's 30 & she is only 16 years older (& youthful with it)

The relationships between the main protagonists were poorly established. We barely saw Kelly McD + son together before he stormed off to his demise; although we know Tony & Jay were best friends, we'd no sense of their relationship.

It was silly & poorly written & executed & yet still left me feeling a bit sick after the scene where Kelly McD witnesses the dismemberment knowing her own fate.
