Every time I am reminded that this man is dead it is sad.
I thought he was fantastic in S&S, although can’t say the same for Hugh Grant 😲
And he was hilarious in Robin Hood.
A great actor, sadly missed.

Hilarious?

GoodnightGrandma · 16/08/2021 11:36

Yes.

Have you seen truly madly deeply? Excellent film.

Knittingupastorm · 16/08/2021 11:39

@User8765431297658448

Hilarious?
In Robin Hood? Definitely!
Mrsjayy · 16/08/2021 11:40

Aww truly madly deeply is lovely and it won't have you crying at all 😭

PearlyBird · 16/08/2021 11:40

Wellhe died young but i've no idea why he was so loved on mumsnet. A very ordinary looking man but lots of mumsnetters used to say how attractive they found him. Very odd. LIke if you're going to have a fantasy, raise the bar on your fantasy.

TheLovleyChebbyMcGee · 16/08/2021 11:40

Dogma? I loved him in that, so dry!!

Yeah, it takes a really nice person to come onto a thread about an actor who's passed away just to slag them off. Well done you.

OP I found his passing incredibly sad also. I think when someone is such a prominent person it feels like someone you know has died, almost - Harry Potter was on in our house constantly at one stage as DSS was obsessed.

CheerfulBunny · 16/08/2021 12:03

Sharleen Spiteri looks also completely gorgeous on a garage forecourt here, to be fair

123344user · 16/08/2021 12:03

Try Close My Eyes if you've not seen it, unusual film but he's great in it.

LemonCandle · 16/08/2021 12:05

Sorry, please feel free to put those words into a sentence that makes sense Grin

When you say Alan Rickman, I think of that video. Love that song.

ATowelAndAPotato · 16/08/2021 12:08

And he had a voice that sort of melted into your brain through your ears!

GoodnightGrandma · 16/08/2021 12:09

I will watch Truly, Madly, Deeply. I’ve heard of it but never watched it, thanks.

Agree with Close my Eyes. Really liked that.

LaurieFairyCake · 16/08/2021 12:24

He was attractive because he was so fantastic at acting

I miss him terribly and wish he was around to make more films

There are a few famous people that you just really respect and admire and no one he worked with had a bad word to say about him - people he worked with loved him

HerbErtlinger · 16/08/2021 12:30

I've not watched any of his films since he passed, makes me too sad (same with Patrick swayze). He was an exceptionally talented actor and by all accounts, a kind and much loved person

oneglassandpuzzled · 16/08/2021 12:34

He was nearly 70 when he died. Seemed much younger.
S and S is a wonderful film.

cutebutscary · 16/08/2021 12:42

I watched half blood Prince with hubby last night and said exactly that, I'm never normally bothered with these things but he just seemed like such a truly lovely man and love everything I've seen him in . He's just had a uniqueness about him don't you think?

CovidCorvid · 16/08/2021 12:43

I watched sense and sensibility yesterday... He's ace in it.

Never watched truly madly deeply, must watch it.

TalesOfDrunkennessAndCruelty · 16/08/2021 12:46

An unexpected treat yesterday afternoon was turning on the telly and finding him there as Colonel Brandon. A magnificent actor, still sorely missed.

Abouttimemum · 16/08/2021 12:54

Yes I watched half blood Prince as well last night and he is perfect in that role. Everything you need to know is etched on his face, and when you watch it back after knowing the ending it’s even more profound.
He was magnificent.

Lottapianos · 16/08/2021 12:57

Such a fabulous actor, a GORGEOUS man and a thoroughly decent person by all accounts. His death is such a great loss. Truly Madly Deeply is such a great film, enjoy

scorpio32 · 16/08/2021 13:49

Loved him in Dogma but my favourite Alan Rickman film is Galaxy Quest

Ostryga · 16/08/2021 13:54

Alan Rickman is the only celebrity death that ever made me cry. I was in a little restaurant having brunch when the notification popped up, sobbed into my poached eggs.

Truly, Madly, Deeply is an amazing film!!

Mrsfrumble · 16/08/2021 14:01

I expect that lots of people found him attractive because of his obvious intelligence, wit and talent. Not everyone is drawn to classic “good looks” 🤷🏻‍♀️

I completely missed the point of Die Hard the first time I saw it; I didn’t get that obnoxious meathead Bruce Willis / John McClane was supposed to be the hero, not witty, charismatic Alan / Hans Gruber. I was very disappointed in the end!

He was also amazing in Dogma.
