Films I can watch with teen DCs that don't have sexual content?

On netflix or Amazon prime... They're 12and 14 and every time I find a "good exciting" film there's always some kind of sexual implications or scene that makes us all cringe and it's uncomfortable.
Any good suggestions?
Thank you!

Knives Out (brilliant film)

musicinspring1 · 06/04/2020 16:59

You can check out films on common sense media. They list all the types of dodgy content in a film so you can make an informed choice about what to watch.

sawyersfishbiscuits · 06/04/2020 17:04

The hunger games
Divergent series
Maze runner series
17 again
Twilight (I don't think there's nookie?)
The fault in our stars
Mean girls
Clueless

thanksamillion · 06/04/2020 17:04

We've recently watched Dodgeball (a few dodgy moments), Apollo 13 and the Eddie the Eagle one which was a surprise hit.
I always look at the parental guidance on IMDB or common sense media.

islandofdoom · 06/04/2020 17:07

Blinded by the light on Prime.

boatyardblues · 06/04/2020 17:12

All the Bourne series films are 12s. No sex, although fairly violent and/or suspenseful.

We watched Raising Arizona (12) with our boys (12 & 14) at the weekend. They loved it & said it was great to see something so different for a change. Nicolas Cage’s sleazy boss does actually suggest a wife swap at one point but Nicolas Cage lamps him & it doesn’t go any further.

DS2 watched The Terminal on Netflix a couple of days ago & enjoyed it.

Dead Poet's Society

Lobsterquadrille2 · 06/04/2020 17:14

Poets' 😳

boatyardblues · 06/04/2020 17:14

jackparlabane How was Knives Out? My 12 yo doesn’t like psychological creepiness or too much focus on dead bodies. He’s worried it will creep him out, but the rest of us are dying to watch it.

BarkandCheese · 06/04/2020 17:15

Locke and Key does have some sexual content, including a brief scene where one character asks another to choke them while in bed. There’s no nudity or a anything overly explicit but there certainly are cringe moments.

TheFaerieQueene · 06/04/2020 17:15

Mascots.

StillGardening · 06/04/2020 17:15

The new jumanji films are fab. As is Ready Player One

sleepwhenidie · 06/04/2020 17:22

Eddie the Eagle
Hidden Figures
Bohemian Rhapsody (though we did have to field an awkward question about ‘why HIV was only affecting gay men’)

carlitaortiz · 06/04/2020 17:34

Good 'ol Blade never disappoints. Also there's this movie about a rich kid trying to be a hero, Green Wasp, which mind ring a bell within your mind in terms of movies like Kick Ass. Pretty cool to watch.

lazylinguist · 06/04/2020 17:34

Place marking. I have a 12yo and a 14yo too. We recently watched The Matrix and Minority Report, which they liked. My too love the Merlin series mentioned upthread.

mous · 06/04/2020 17:35

Common sense media is a really good site for this - it will give a summary of any sex / nudity/ otherwise adult scene, kind of messages conveyed in film, swearing, it's even got an 'instances of gambling/ smoking ' counter (it is American...) But it is very thorough. Grin search by film / TV show, it's got everything if you need to check content without watching the film yourself.

Maybe it sounds a bit pearl clutching to some, but found it invaluable for school, youth groups etc.

Tbh hate the relentless creep of 'porniness' into older kid and teen media. It's really escalated in past ten - fifteen years.

PotteringAlong · 06/04/2020 17:36

All of the Indiana Jones films are on bbc1 this weekend

elQuintoConyo · 06/04/2020 17:47

Ready player One is on Amazon prime TV, ds loves it. After the 5th day in a row I've had to escape to the bedroom yo scream into a pillow!

We've watched Top Secret, Hot Shots (kissing, no sex), (Hot Shots 2 is rubbish). Airplane. Johnny English. Anything light-hearted, and pre-2000 Grin Death Becomes Her, Airheads, Wedding Singer, Austin Powers!

Basically we're going through my dvd collection BlushGrin

PhantomErik · 06/04/2020 17:54

Hunger Games series
Divergent series
The Martian
Harry Potter series
Da Vinci Code
Angels & Demons

Crabbo · 06/04/2020 17:59

@boatyardblues I thought knives out was great - dark comedy so not too creepy. There’s a bit of bodies etc iirc but no blood. The only thing I didn’t like is there’s a fair bit of puking and I really don’t like that!

What about the naked gun films/airplane?

ZaZathecat · 06/04/2020 18:00

My teens loved Slumdog Millionaire and The Truman Show.

CoffeeandPainting · 06/04/2020 18:01

Two new ones come out of Netflix last week

Elephants and Dolphins

Amazing!

boatyardblues · 06/04/2020 18:48

Thanks Crabbo.
