Films

Films I can watch with teen DCs that don't have sexual content?

On netflix or Amazon prime... They're 12and 14 and every time I find a "good exciting" film there's always some kind of sexual implications or scene that makes us all cringe and it's uncomfortable.
Any good suggestions?
Thank you!

Thanks again everyone I had no idea this thread was still running.
It's bizarre, since lock down we've hardly watched TV.
Going to start on the recs tonight!

I agree that Locke and key is annoyingly dodgy in places. Its a shame since it would have been great family viewing with tweens/young teens.

In the past couple of weeks we've found the DSs (12 and 14) have enjoyed:

The Truman Show (incredibly relevant to todays world of social media)
Cry Freedom
Legally Blonde
Miss Congeniality
Alien (Just the first one - We hesitated over this but I told Ds2 when to cover his eyes in the bloody scene and it was fine)
Gravity
Ghost
Empire of the Sun

Miss Peregrine’s Home for Peculiar Children should have been a 15. Much too graphic and gruesome (gouged eyes etc) for a 12 year old.
I am having the same issue, my dc are 12 and 15, and I want films that we can all enjoy without too many sexual refs.

Kick Ass has loads of proper swearing in - c*t, f**k. I wouldn't watch with a 12 year old.

Also looking for 11 and 14 yr old. On Netflix. It’s hard to find something they both like.

Watched Never Ending Story on Netflix last week, they both enjoyed that, bit of nostalgia for me!

I remember the KickAss films being violent and grubby. I wouldn’t show them to my kids.

Lion... absolutely brilliant. True story . Me and my 11yrDS watched it the other night and he has been very cuddly since. Think he really appreciates being safe

slightly devils advocate here but surely at 12 and 14 they are ready to watch more 'adult films' i think sometimes embarrassment can be made into a joke, i was watching trainspotting, the original texas chainsaw film etc at like 13 i was fine, maybe my upbringing was out of the ordinary.

The Studio Ghibli films? I think most of them are available now. Kiki's Delivery Service is my favourite, and Castle in the Sky.

Do you have a child? Is it young? If so go and look at it then imagine sitting cosily down in a few years time and watching Texas Chainsaw Massacre together.

You aren't fine because you are recommending someone sit down with their 12 year old and watching Texas Chainsaw Massacre.

Watching it secretly with mates, fine. Sitting with your mum so it's normalised, not fine.

We watched Knives Out, which was great. DS2 found the scene in the deserted laundrette really unsettling and was unhappy about the initial death even though we’d talked about it before, so if you have a very sensitive child there are a couple of tricky points.

Texas Chainsaw Massacre at 13 ? Shock
Yes I think that is out of the ordinary. Films like that are in no way suitable for under 18s. Or anyone at all, really.

Also bothered by the choke request mentioned, in Locke and Key. Like a pp I hate the insidious creep of porn into films for this age group.
