Best ever plot twist?

We are arguing over the best film plot twist ever.

I say ‘I am your father’ (Darth Vader). DS says Bruce Willis’s revelation at the end of the sixth sense.

MN jury?

Jagged Edge - the bit with the typewriter.

Mrsfrumble · 16/11/2019 20:22

Atonement really got to me. I hadn’t read the book and by the time the twist came I was so invested in Cecelia and Robbie’s relationship that I felt like I’d been punched in the gut.

I’d forgotten all about The Game! It was good, wasn’t it?

MisfitNotMissFit · 16/11/2019 20:24

Got to be Fight Club, great book and film is very true to the book. Plus an epic cast.

My favourite film of all time.

ContessaLovesTheSunshine · 16/11/2019 20:31

Bloody Channel 4 spoilt The Usual Suspects for me when it showed on terrestrial, 20 years ago; the pivotal scene where you realise the twist WAS IN THEIR FUCKING TRAILER. I realised about 5 minutes in. I'm still pissed off Angry it would have been awesome!!

Jubilation · 16/11/2019 20:35

Usual suspects
The Others
The Village

lioness88 · 16/11/2019 21:18

Lucky Number Slevin!

TheBitchOfTheVicar · 16/11/2019 21:34

@thefattestchip I read the book on the bus and could not work out what was happening at the end. I had to read it a couple of times... When I realised, I burst out crying Blush

TheBitchOfTheVicar · 16/11/2019 21:35

Also Don't Look Now

MillyMollie · 24/11/2019 08:45

The Crying Game
No Way Out
Jagged Edge

Egghead68 · 01/12/2019 06:57

I guessed Sixth Sense early on - I though they made it really obvious.

I knew Atonement from the book but think it is a good twist.

Hard Candy was a good one too (and a really good film).

May84 · 01/12/2019 20:48

The Village
The Sixth sense
Usual suspects

The most shocking for me was in Grey's Anatomy with George revealing himself as 007... I scared my husband as I gasped so loudly!

dontmentionbookclub · 01/12/2019 21:45

Fight Club. Really didn't see it coming, but the clues are there.

Janus · 01/12/2019 21:50

May84 George!!! I gasped too! Years later my teenage daughter watched them all and I sat in with her on that one to see if she knew before he did 007 on her hand and she gasped too! George was the best!

MissLadyM · 01/12/2019 21:55

@knittingnanny that film sounds amazing!

misspiggy19 · 01/12/2019 22:02

Another vote for Saw

drdad · 02/12/2019 23:14

Knittingnanny, I think the film you're thinking of might be this:

www.imdb.com/title/tt0071398/reference/?mode=desktop&

Other good twists: Life of Pi, He Loves Me... He Loves Me Not (with Audrey Tatou), Les Diaboliques.

Tobermory · 02/12/2019 23:20

This is a good thread! Am watching it to add to the list of films I need to watch!
And I didn’t see ‘sixth sense’ coming!

emilybrontescorsett · 02/12/2019 23:23

I agree with The Sting, great film.

Lochnessgiraffe · 02/12/2019 23:24
