Best ever plot twist?

We are arguing over the best film plot twist ever.

I say ‘I am your father’ (Darth Vader). DS says Bruce Willis’s revelation at the end of the sixth sense.

MN jury?

Ooh, The sting! Now that's a classic plot twist.

thefattestchip · 26/10/2019 19:21

How about atonement?
I hadn't read the book and was so upset when we were shown that the 'narrator' had created some of the scenes and that the reality for the main characters was much more tragic.

DuggeesWoggle · 26/10/2019 19:26

I was going to say The Game but I see others beat me to it. I like that it's not that well known so you can recommend it without the other person knowing about it.

DrinkReprehensibly · 27/10/2019 11:01

Perhaps because I saw it as a kid and was not expecting it at all, I thought Malice was a massive twist and always felt so sorry for Bill Pullman's character.

NemosPoorlyFinn · 27/10/2019 11:03

1000% shutter island
I'm still confused about it haha

cushioncovers · 02/11/2019 23:10

The others.
Shutter island

rosegoldwatcher · 02/11/2019 23:21

Scully - with Charlize Theron - has a twist that I didn't see coming. Won't say anymore as it is a comparatively new film.

LetsGoFlyAKiteee · 03/11/2019 10:41

Did enjoy the twist in Us. Not so much a omg didn't see that coming but made you think about it all.

cushioncovers · 03/11/2019 12:02

Intruders (2015) but don't watch the trailer on prime as it gives it away. 🙄

PeterPumpkinEater · 03/11/2019 12:09

The Mist. So sad.

cushioncovers · 03/11/2019 13:33

Oh yes The Mist, the twist comes right at the end. I was 😮

Baldcrusader · 04/11/2019 17:13

The Mist.

Goatrider · 05/11/2019 20:01

Fight Club

Rarely gets mentioned as having a twist but I never saw it coming

bobstersmum · 05/11/2019 20:14

I honestly watched the Shawshank redemption and was totally shocked when he broke out! I hadn't heard of it at the time though.

GirlInterrupted · 16/11/2019 16:57

Me and DH watched Friday the 13th for the first time only a few years ago (about 5 or 6). We had absolutely no idea. That is one of the only twists I didn't actually guess. I think that's because I took it for granted what I thought I knew - which I was wrong about. Then we watched Scream not long after (which we had seen before) and they give away the plot twist to Friday the 13th in there. So again surprised that we didn't know the end to Friday the 13th.

I knew The others, Sixth sense and shutter island. In fact I always joke at the start of horror or similar films by saying they're already dead.

WhenPushComesToShove · 16/11/2019 17:54

No one has yet mentioned Maverick. Fantastic cast, great film.

Knittingnanny · 16/11/2019 18:05

I watched a film about 30/35 years ago which has stayed with me as a twist I never saw coming.
I’ve googled it many times but can’t find the title
So the story is about a girl on the run from a stalker who has just been released from prison and is after her blood. The whole film is scary in that there are so many near meetings and misses. However the twist at the end is that the girl who you thought was the victim is actually the stalker.
Can’t find the title anywhere

Cornishmum00 · 16/11/2019 18:09

Fight club

egontoste · 16/11/2019 18:20

Another vote for No Way Out.

Another vote here for Hard Candy, that properly blindsided me! I guessed the Sixth Sense and I’d read the book Primal Fear so had been blown away by that before! I enjoyed ‘The Drop’ with Tom Hardy, didn’t guess the climax at all

DuesToTheDirt · 16/11/2019 20:16

Yes to The Others and Sixth Sense. I never spot twists, and can't watch stuff like this (or crime thrillers, sometimes) with DH as he sees it coming and tells me what's going to happen Hmm
Sliding Doors is good as well.
