I liked the movie but didn't love it. It felt a bit as if they had written the plot to fill in details for the Avengers story, then sorted out her own personal story, with quick montage to give us some of her history.
Somehow, I just didn't hook into her character and really want to root for her, whereas there are other characters (inc. Wonder Woman) where I get genuinely tense as I want them to be OK. (Yes, I know it's made up, but a really good story gets you emotionally involved, not just entertained).
Although there are strong female characters, it's still a movie dominated by male roles. I know there's the explanation of 90s military being very male dominated, but are ALL alien species also patriarchal? With the same macho men and mother home-nurturer stereotypes?
About the soundtrack - I liked it, but it had several different genres of music, so that it kept getting a different 'feel' and that kind of jarred. I was relaxed into 90s rock nostalgia, when suddenly I got hit with RnB. Also, the editing for the fight scene to "I'm just a girl" seemed a bit off - the action didn't quite align with the music as well as it could. The hand-to-hand fight scene at the start of Winter Soldier between CA and a crew member is absolutely spot on, with every move working exactly with the music. The same for the opening of GOTG. Marvel just wasn't as well choreographed/edited imo.
