I am the biggest marvel fan going.

Watched it earlier today and keen to hear what others thought of the film?

Thank you MrsFassy for the ticket info. I will be soooooo excited when I can book our seats.

Whatjusthappenedthere · 16/03/2019 22:03

Saw it today and had to google if it was actually SLJ playing Fury or a younger similar looking actor. Turns out it was CGI and I couldn’t tell. He is a seventy year old old actor who they managed to make look mid 40s without any question. Amazing.
Film was great, lacked all of the humour of most of the Avenger movies but Captain Marvel didn’t really have any other Avenger characters to banter with. The opening credits with all the images of Stan Lee and then his slightly more significant cameo than previous cameos made me feel a bit emotional. Lovely tribute.

CrazyDuchess · 17/03/2019 06:05

It was a lovely tribute to Stan Lee Sad

@BartonHallow - I completely forgot about X-Men, My goodness can you imagine what they can do???
The current X-MEN series is just to dark and violent for me :(

Saw it today. Loved it. Can I just say 'granny on the train' Grin

FindPrimeLorca · 17/03/2019 15:02

One random possibility is that they won’t kill anyone, but will split the universes, with the new generation wiped out by the snap moved into a new universe, which also contains the Fantastic Four, the X Men and all the Phase 4 films.

CrazyDuchess · 17/03/2019 15:14

@Iklboo granny was hilarious - and a fierce fighter

@FindPrimeLorca that's interesting! I do think someone significant will die in Endgame - I think it will be Captain America.

Ah totally forgot about Fantastic Four - see I didn't hate the last remake! I am excited to see what's to come!

From the info I've gathered online

X Men : Dark Phoenix is a stinker

They know it's a stinker and they are releasing it anyway because it's the last non Marvel Studios one, and they want to kill the enthusiasm for the current incarnation to reboot it completely

The New Mutants has been cut and reshot that many times it may never get a release and will probably get dumped to stream if at all.

I'd imagine we won't see a new X Men for about 5 years

They have shown that they can make an old story fresh with Spider-Man so I'm quite hopeful.

The phase 4 slate will more than likely be announced at SDCC which is at the end of July.

BartonHollow · 17/03/2019 15:17

I think we could see both the deaths of Steve Rogers and Tony Stark

RDJ isn't doing anymore either or Paltrow

noblegiraffe · 17/03/2019 15:23

It was dull in places but picked up at the end. The female dominated soundtrack really stood out for me, are most background songs in films sung by men and I’ve never noticed?

Not entirely sure about Captain Marvel’s motivations/character. Sodding off for 25 years leaving her friend and little girl was weird, although obviously necessary for the wider plot.

CrazyDuchess · 17/03/2019 15:24

@BartonHollow I am not surprised at all, aside from James McAvoy/Patrick Stewart as Xavier, and the Magneto actors, I wasn't feeling any of the actors.

What was so disappointing, especially with the last 2 film's and Logan is that they have made it to dark and gory and violent, nothing like the comics I grew up with!

They had the most versatile characters on their hands and they just totally lost their way with the Xmen franchise. I hope for a totally fresh reboot! Recasting and doing what they do best!

I have some hope that Iron Man and wifey get married and live happily ever after.....

CrazyDuchess · 17/03/2019 15:28

@noblegiraffe - I hadn't noticed the soundtrack was female dominated!

I think what stood out for me was how accepting everyone was of the aliens in the living room?? Just completely ignored that?

It was a fun movie, but to me it was a filler to get us to endgame. When Captain Marvel does her next movie will be a much better offering I think. A bit like Dr Strange - didn't love the first movie, loved him in Infinity wars and think his next solo outing will be spectacular

I liked First Class but I haven't seen Logan - films have become too formulaic with everything leading to a big Crashy Smashy Crashy Smashy Bit at the end

Apocalypse was woeful

And in the other films good premises that got wasted for the need to have the Crashy Smashy bit

BartonHollow · 17/03/2019 15:33

@noblegiraffe

I wondered if that was a bit wibbly wobbly timey wimey for her

Time passes at different rates on different planets...

Just watched Aquaman and this is spot on!

Has anyone taken their children to see it? My eldest is 10 and has seen most of the marvel films (not iron man or captain America ones as its more human baddies rather than aliens!) She got a bit muddled in infinity war we had to pause and explain a few times.

Just wondered if it's suitable?

Radleyquestion · 17/03/2019 15:50

I took two 8 yr olds and thought it was the dullest load of nonsense I'd seen for ages. But the boys seemed to enjoy it.

Soundtrack was the best thing about it, plus the fact that I managed a nap towards the end.

Amazed by all those sentient adults who loved it though! What on earth did I miss!

CrazyDuchess · 17/03/2019 15:51

I've not but simply because my dd doesn't like Marvel movies.

I think it would be fine - it's not gory and the plot is fairly straightforward. You don't really need to have seen the others as it's a good standalone movie.

Grin for me I watched it for the Avengers, to understand what was going to happen in Endgame

I loved the quirkiness and the links to Marvell and other movies.

I thought she was great and was glad of a lack of love interest. Loved the cat and the soundtrack.
Really liked how the CGI had a 90s feel too

CrazyDuchess · 17/03/2019 15:58

Yes - I cannot fault the actor, Brie Larson was brilliant!

HalfBloodPrincess · 17/03/2019 16:07

I am a huge MCU fan but I have to say I was disappointed with this film. It seemed more in-line with the ‘agents of shield’ ‘made for tv’ type stories than the big blockbusting films We’re used to. Felt a bit like it was made in a rush. If it wasn’t for black panther then this would rank bottom of the list for me.

ChinUpChestOut · 17/03/2019 16:08

Yeah enjoyed it. Got irrationally annoyed by the shots of her doing the dramatic flying with her hair all over her face and literally looking out with one eye. Because that's what you would do. Wouldn't you. If you were a highly trained pilot.

And why was it necessary for her to visibly wear make up when half the time she was running around like a lunatic and nowhere near her make up bag? Why can't Hollywood let a female lead NOT wear makeup?

KOKOagainandagain · 17/03/2019 16:45

Did you stay for the post credit 'Easter eggs'? DS2 has encyclopaedic knowledge of the DC universe and thought there would be a tie in to Dr Strange. I am clueless but enjoyed it.

CrazyDuchess · 17/03/2019 16:52

Eurgh I know right! And running around in heels proper gets my goat!

I was irrationally annoyed by the fact that Carol runs like Phoebe from friends rather than the pumpy armed run of tiny Tom Cruise Grin
