We just saw it today and was so moved by it. Such brave men Sad

CalmItKermitt · 23/07/2017 15:17

Does Aneurin Barnard have much of a part?

A1Sharon · 23/07/2017 16:06

Yes, there is a group of 2-3 young lads that 'hook up' to try and get on a boat or back by whatever means, he is one of them.
The story centres on these few lads, two RAF pilots, a family in a small boat and sees how they were all interlinked, in a way.

VeryButchyRestingFace · 23/07/2017 16:19

This was gooood.

Couldn't watched the trapped-underwater-in-sinking-boat shots though. 😵

niceupthedance · 23/07/2017 18:02

Loved it, very disturbing though. The spitfire was like going to war in a shopping trolley.

originalbiglymavis · 23/07/2017 18:10

Will I need a box if hankies?

My grandfather was evacuated from Dunkirk. I wish he'd told us more about his wartime activities but what I did learn were pretty horrific so it's not surprising he says very little about the war.

dementedma · 23/07/2017 18:17

I was collecting at our local Odeon today for Poppy Scotland. So many people coming out saying what a great film and how it brought it home to them....and walking straight past our collecting tins.

clumsyduck · 23/07/2017 20:56

Yes hankies !!! Brings it home just how brave they were !

Wh0Kn0wsWhereTheTimeGoes · 23/07/2017 22:55

I thought it was brilliant, the way the three strands were woven together, the focus being on the events not the characters, but with little human touches. So well shot and a great score too. Will definitely be recommending it to friends.

originalbiglymavis · 23/07/2017 23:03

R4 now now now!

Wh0Kn0wsWhereTheTimeGoes · 23/07/2017 23:17

Listening, thanks.

UsedToBeAPaxmanFan · 23/07/2017 23:20

I thought it was excellent. We saw it at an IMAX and the experience was intense. I've recommended it to everyone I've seen over the weekend.

IDoAllMyOwnStunts · 23/07/2017 23:24

Thought it was great. And added bonus was Cillian Murphy was in it too 😍

Groovester · 23/07/2017 23:27

Saw it in imax today. Phenomenal. One of the best films I've seen. Beautifully shot, impressive sound design and editing was first class.

Dee03 · 23/07/2017 23:36

Saw it today, brilliant film

LassWiTheDelicateAir · 24/07/2017 00:14

Saw it yesterday. The audience applauded. Brilliant film. Mark Rylance was superb.

Just seconding what everyone else is saying but will add Hans Zimmer's score was superb too and very effective.

TheAntiBoop · 24/07/2017 08:37

Do you think iMax would be too intense for a ten year old who hasn't been to an iMax before?

Demented - that doesn't surprise me unfortunately. But you will be pleased to know my son regularly gives his pocket money to relevant charities.

Wh0Kn0wsWhereTheTimeGoes · 24/07/2017 09:06

It depends how good they are with sudden and loud noises Anti. The guns and bombs made me jump even in a small screen cinema.

MisguidedAngel · 24/07/2017 09:14

I saw it in France with French subtitles - which helped with the dialogue as the film is quite noisy. I agree that it's brilliant and I would love to see it on Imax.

NikiBabe · 24/07/2017 12:22

Theantiboop I think it'd be fine. The air bits are like watching a big video game trying to shoot each other down.

Lots of peril with ship sinking. Deaths but none of it gory.

TheDogsMother · 24/07/2017 14:34

Saw it on Imax and wow, what a film. The sound, the filming style, the way it moves from boats to Spitfire to beach. The intensity was quite suffocating at times but definitely recommended.

Almahart · 24/07/2017 23:52

It was brilliant. I have to say there is no way I'd take a ten year old to it. Very distressing I thought and no blood but lots of drowning

NikiBabe · 25/07/2017 00:25

There was a child under 10 in War of the Planet of the Apes at the weekend.

Apes being whipped, tortured, intense bloody violence. She wasnt upset or crying.

niceupthedance · 25/07/2017 06:04

I wouldn't take anyone under 12. It's upsetting.
