Yes, me too! Christopher Nolan's films are always superb, so I have high hopes.

NikiBabe · 17/07/2017 12:16

I have my tickets for Friday.

Hope it's a great one.

TheAntiBoop · 17/07/2017 23:19

Let me know if you think my ww boffin 10yo could see it - I'm a little nervous it might be too much but he reads adult books on the wars so the grim reality isn't alien to him - he's just never seen it in film

First reviews are excellent

NikiBabe · 18/07/2017 11:22

Yes it has 98% rating so far on rotten tomatoes. I'll let you know how it is but hopefully it'll be ok for your son.

TheAntiBoop · 18/07/2017 11:48

Thanks!

NikiBabe · 19/07/2017 14:51

I am mightily impressed by your 10yo ds though antiboop. That is so awesome that is so interested.

TheAntiBoop · 19/07/2017 17:10

Well I'd rather he liked fossils or knitting tbh!! I get dragged around to talks and museums that I find very upsetting!! I think Dh will take him to see the film!!

NikiBabe · 19/07/2017 17:36

That is true. I found the Imperial war museum hard going especially the holocaust section. Sad

FiveGoMadInDorset · 19/07/2017 17:38

History mad DD11 is keen to see it, was filmed close by, welll bits of it.

EyeDrops · 19/07/2017 17:47

It looks incredible from the trailer. Can't wait to see it!

A1Sharon · 19/07/2017 21:45

The original is quite good too theantiboop.
Can't wait to see it.

originalbiglymavis · 19/07/2017 21:47

I want to see it too!

Crumbs1 · 19/07/2017 22:32

I really want to take my very elderly mother - she was on the beach at Ramsgate as the boats returned.

NikiBabe · 21/07/2017 18:07

That was incredible!

I would say it is fine for a war interested 10 yo.

There was no gore or bloody battle scenes just lots of gunfire and ships being sunk. Id take him.

Nothinglikeanotter · 21/07/2017 20:13

Seen it. Legs still shaking. Wonderful stuff, and Mark Rylance's sad eyes into the bargain. Five stars.

dementedma · 21/07/2017 20:16

I'm going to the cinema, but won't be watching. I will be collecting for Poppy Scotland. Please give what you can to support out Veterans.

TheAntiBoop · 21/07/2017 21:23

Thanks! Will book tickets now!!

Vintageproblem · 21/07/2017 21:27

Just back from seeing Dunkirk. It was very good, very moving.

Makes you realise how basic everything was, the planes, navigation, communication, compared with today.

lucydogz · 22/07/2017 21:35

I loved it, and found it very moving. Beautifully filmed as well. After 2 poor films (the Beguiled and Baby Driver) it's restored my faith in the cinema.
Can anyone answer a question? Towards the end, we think Mark Rylance's boat is going to be gunned by a German fighter, but the plane is shot down by Tom Hardy. Mark Rylance says something about his son being in the RAF. Are we meant to think that Tom Hardy is his son? My bugbear with so many films is that I can't make out what they're saying.

Vintageproblem · 22/07/2017 22:14

The Mark Rylance character's son was killed three weeks into the war. His other son said that.

clumsyduck · 22/07/2017 22:26

Incredible . moved to tears

LAlady · 22/07/2017 23:20

Amazing film. Saw it yesterday and was completely overwhelmed.

A1Sharon · 23/07/2017 00:17

Oh.
I thought it was ok, but definitely not brilliant.
Where were all the men on the beach?! It looked like a few hundred at most.
Too much focus on the boats being sunk.
It looked like 8 small boats arrived - which to be fair was enough to collect the few lads hanging around the pier...
I preferred the old original.

NikiBabe · 23/07/2017 02:11

It was a conscious decision to only show what the soldiers saw at that time. Hence no view of 400,000 men or hundreds of ships in aerial shots.

I think the ship sinking was key making you realise just how desperate the situation was. Even if they got on a ship it was sunk and the next one and the next one and they kept winding up back on the beach. For me that showed just how impossible the situation was and how miraculous the rescue was

lucydogz · 23/07/2017 09:11

That's interesting Nikki. Apparently no CGI as well. I'd like to see it again at an imax now
