My son wants to watch a "really scary film"

We tried a few of the darker Disney.... nope not scary enough... then went to explore a few other films, Jurassic park, ghost busters, pirates of the Caribbean, jumanji.. this is still not enough for him.

I need a film to spook him out a bit but not traumstise him... any ideas?

I remember watching Jaws as a kid and being terrified!

Ooo we love coraline in this house!

Corpse bride? Witches?

My kids (10, 7 and 5) just watched Jaws last week and loved it! Mind you, they trawl YouTube for scary stuff all the time when they're wanting a break from Ex Sheeran videos, minecraft and stupid unboxing videos so are pretty desensitised to scary movies now.

They had better bloody not come across the Alien movies yet though cos DH and I are dying waiting til they're ready for those!

My 10yo loves the short film called "Lights Out". Google it. Though I wouldn't advise watching it before bed. Really. Don't. For your sake.

Jaws? It's a 12 and a bit gory but more exciting than scary.

Monster movies in general (apart from Alien of course Grin) are a safe bet. It's easier for a child to rationalise the fear which they can't do as well with supernatural horror (i.e. fear of the unknown)

Some really good replies here. It's film night tonight so we are going to give coraline a go. Thankyou so much.

Scooby doo - zombie island. I watched it with my step son about ten years ago, I found it quite scary

All quite old now. But as a child who loved horror films. I would reccomend the following.

Laberinth
Dark chrystal
Halloween town 1,2 & 3
Hocus pocus
The witches
The page master
Nightmare before christmas
Corpse bride
Coraline
Sleepy hollow the one with johnny depp in
Beetlejuice
Caspar friendly ghost
Addams family
Gremlin
The black cauldron
Et
Escape witch mountain

Tv shows

Goosebumps
Are you afraid of the dark.

All very easy to start on. And age appropiate.Albeit rather 80s/90s now.

Still have memories of my cousins thinking the orginal IT the clown was a totally appropiate film for a 6 year old to watch whilst babysitting me. Traumatised me for days!
