Who's seen it?
I went this evening and really enjoyed it. Laughed out loud, thought soundtrack was excellent too.
So, who would you do? Mark or Jack?

OP posts:
SouthWestmom · 25/09/2016 08:27

I think the writing was funny and individual interactions caught the Bridget vibe but overall the plot was implausible and there is no way either man would be chasing after her.
Hated the little kid swearing

coolpotato · 25/09/2016 08:29

At the end of the film, at the wedding I was convinced Bridget was going to be pregnant again (v tight time frames admittedly) because the bouquet was held in front of her tummy quite deliberately for ages. So then I thought "ah, so Jack was the father of baby no 1, but she's marrying Mark and is pregnant with their baby, but they're all going to be good friends and end up an extended family etc"

But then she wasn't pregnant at all, so then yes, it seemed a bit weird that Jack was so chummy with them all!!

SouthWestmom · 25/09/2016 09:59

Oh and wtf was the symbolism of the veil flying off and then drifting into the sky?

gingerbreadmanm · 25/09/2016 10:02

i have a confession and i think mn is one of the only places that wont judge me for it...i went and saw this myself yesterday. i sat and laughed and cried all to myself. absolutely loved it.

her face was so distracting at first that i thought i wouldnt get into it but the storyline is so good i soon forgot.

i hadnt seen any spoilers so got a few surprises. brilliant film!

SueTrinder · 25/09/2016 14:20

Oh and wtf was the symbolism of the veil flying off and then drifting into the sky?

It was a bit of a classic Bridget wardrobe malfunction but because she was so happy and had grown into herself she didn't care I think. And her hair still looked fab.

JustDanceAddict · 25/09/2016 18:58

Also, you'd never have an amniocentesis at 12 weeks - its more like 16-20 isn't it? It doesn't take 5 mins to check that online, butvthe Dr def said '12 weeks...amino' and I thought wtf?

coolpotato · 25/09/2016 19:20

Yes, you're right.....i'd forgotten about that. I've had an amino and was told the earliest it could be done was 16 weeks.

gingerbreadmanm · 25/09/2016 20:19

i thought the same about the amnio actually straight away thought surely it would be cvs.

PassTheCremeEggs · 25/09/2016 20:20

The losing the veil reference was related to her losing her head scarf in the convertible (on the mini break with Daniel) in first film wasn't it?

SouthWestmom · 25/09/2016 20:22

I've just seen Bridget Jones ' Baby in WH Smiths. Do we think Mad About the Boy might quietly disappear from collective memory?

SueTrinder · 26/09/2016 18:05

Yes to the amnio date being wrong. And the taking the Dads off minutes after the baby is born to tell them who is the father.

LittleMissUpset · 26/09/2016 18:16

I loved it but annoyingly knew the ending as read a spoiler on another thread in here, and it was in the OP. Though actually I do like to know an ending, so not too bad, and I was crying with laughter.

I always thought I liked a Mr Darcy, but I actually would have chosen Jack myself, he is lovely, so I surprised myself!

I haven't read the other book as I heard what happened in it and didn't want too as it sounds sad, can anyone tell me if it has a happy ending, as I will read it then, someone can pm me if they wouldn't mind, I don't mind knowing the ending for the book.

It's a great film though, I will watch it again to get another fix of Jack Grin

Wendalicious · 26/09/2016 23:30

Saw it on my own tonight and much much better than expected- massive Jack fan, hated kids swearing too! Was quite a sensible film after OTT second one x

EachandEveryone · 28/09/2016 23:05

I saw it tonight and the director did a question and answer afterwards but i was too shy to say anything. The director is Shazz in the movies and the woman asking thecquestions is her other friend. I was dissappointed her friends werent in the film more.

Poocatcherchampion · 28/09/2016 23:15

Mark was just so glum and depressing

Luckily jack was there for us.

OhMrsQ · 28/09/2016 23:30

I loved Emma Thompson in this. Brilliant.

I thought that maybe Jack was the father after all, hence why he was there at the wedding. Mark had said he would love him anyway and treat him as a son (the baby, not Patrick Dempsey).

EachandEveryone · 28/09/2016 23:55

I take it she had private healthcare?

DontBuyANewMumCashmere · 30/09/2016 12:04

I saw this last night and loved it!!!
I totally would still do Mr Darcy, Jack was alright but a bit smarmy. He'd annoy me too much. I got quite sad when then talked about spending the rest of her life with Mark..... Sad
Loads of laughs, brilliantly done!

PurpleDaisies · 30/09/2016 12:14

I went to see this on my own yesterday afternoon. It there really still a stigma associated with this? I've been to see plenty of films without anyone else-I didn't realise people might be judging me. Oh well.

I quite enjoyed the film but I agree that rene's plastic surgery was distracting and I missed the friends in it. Considering that the budget must have been pretty big, the fake belly was really unconvincing. I hated the child swearing incident.

Definitely mark all the way for me!

CrownofStars · 01/10/2016 14:21

I went to see it with my friend last night. I think I''m very much in the minority as I hadn't seen either of the other films, I'd read the book and found it very annoying so never bothered and so wasn't really invested in the Darcy chap. I thought Jack would have been better for Bridget. The other guy seemed very boring and despite them seeming to have a long history together they were so weirdly awkward.

I hated the cliched one contraction and everyone's racing for the hospital thing thoigh and why did she lose the use of her legs? 🙄

Having said that I laughed out loud often and adored the bitchy new boss and her hipster entourage and Emma Thompson was just fantastic.

All in all a fairly entertaining watch.

SueTrinder · 02/10/2016 22:27

I thought that maybe Jack was the father after all, hence why he was there at the wedding. Mark had said he would love him anyway and treat him as a son (the baby, not Patrick Dempsey).

No, Mark said after the wedding 'give me my son' which he wouldn't have done if Jack was the father. I suspect he was at the wedding because they filmed 3 versions and probably filmed them all at the same time then cut and pasted the various bits. Not because it made any sense in the eventual ending.

Trills · 02/10/2016 22:31

I like to think that she did not immediately have the baby and decide "I will be with this man" but decided it gradually over the next year while taking plenty of time to think.

No, Mark said after the wedding 'give me my son' which he wouldn't have done if Jack was the father

Yes he would. I read it as a jokey reference to their previous rivalry. Jack i the biological father (and honorary uncle) and Mark is the one bringing him up as his son.

Trills · 02/10/2016 22:32

PurpleDaisies I went to see it alone.

I love seeing films alone.

You sit quietly and face forwards and DON'T TALK, it's a perfect activity to do alone

pinkunicornsarefluffy · 04/10/2016 19:00

I saw this the other night and thought it was hilarious.

When I saw Jack holding the baby, I thought he was the father, but when Darcy says "give me back my son", Jack says something like "I don't know what to do with him", which indicated to me that Darcy was the father?.

Great film, have just pre-ordered the book.

NameChange30 · 04/10/2016 19:10

JACK! I swooned at him twice: the sex scene and when he got off the motorbike.

And I agree with Sue about Mark:
"I'm not convinced marrying a man who didn't commit to you for 10 years and has had 2 failed marriages is actually that great a catch."

I enjoyed the film but the pregnancy and childbirth stuff was SO unrealistic, which is a poor show for a film aimed mainly at female audiences - I know it's a romcom but they could have made a bit more effort!
