Want to get ideas for Valentine's day. Think dh and I will have a quiet night in but would like to watch a "nice" film to get us in a romantic mood.

No silly rom com rubbish though, something more intelligent and slightly erotic but not in a pornagraphic way if that makes sense.

as if to a small child
yes expat but "ethan and julie meet again she says hey big boy show me your cock he says oh yes but let me sniff your scarf first they shag and that's it" wouldn't be a VERY interesting movie now would it?

lolol

honest expat, I think you should watch it. with your ex-boyfriend issues locked in a box for the duration!

ledodgy · 26/01/2007 23:54

They are lovely films!

theheadgirl · 26/01/2007 23:56

expat I am drunk after too much red wine I agree Jude Law is a fop and not the inman of the book. but i LIKED the film.

PrincessPeaHead · 26/01/2007 23:56

I can't believe I'm debating this at 11.55pm on the night before my daughter's first birthday when I've failed to make a cake so will have to get up early to do it so that it will cool in time to ice it before lunch.

Sigh.

Sleep well everyone!

theheadgirl · 26/01/2007 23:57

Awww happy 1st birthday little peahead xxxx

expatinscotland · 26/01/2007 23:57

He was so jittery, like a man on drugs.

Ugggh.

And yakety yak. About nothing.

So boring!

I don't know how she sat there listening to that. She is so sexy, she could have any man.

A man who knows moaning about himself and his pitiful life is pointless, dull and stupid because all life is like this.

Amour is what we cling to. It has not so many words.

It has no need. It is imagination, nuance, understatement, suggestion, at times, frivolity, humour and lightness.

American men have none of these things for the most part unless by some miracle of gene mixture.

Dull as dirty dishwater.

expatinscotland · 26/01/2007 23:58

Happy Bday, daughter of PPH!!

expatinscotland · 26/01/2007 23:59

The book was BRILL.

The sense of longing, the yearning.

No way to capture this in a film, although I think Nicole Kidman was well cast and she is a really good actress.

theheadgirl · 27/01/2007 00:00

Expat you are a poet yourself (but did I mention I am drunk)

hunkeydorey · 27/01/2007 00:00

I love An Officer and a Gentleman. I'd love someone to come and rescue me like that. In fact yesterday dd was telling me that they had been talking about fantasy worlds at school, I said mine was meeting a lovely man and him saying "come and live with me, in my big house, I have lots of money and I'll look after you and your kids and we all live happily ever after".

expatinscotland · 27/01/2007 00:00

I'm sober.

I was sober when I saw this film.

Oh, no, this is not amour. This is desperation, love's pitiful shadow.

theheadgirl · 27/01/2007 00:01

yes the book was brill. I thought they captured a lot of it though. I liked renee z and I thought the brutality of the soldiers to the southerners was well done.

mears · 27/01/2007 00:02

My DH enjoyed Sweet Home Alabama but that might be too romcom for you - i love it.

expatinscotland · 27/01/2007 00:03

Just Like Heaven.

Unbelievable, but light-hearted.

theheadgirl · 27/01/2007 00:03

Just like heaven - remind me, the title rings a bell

theheadgirl · 27/01/2007 00:04

i also like the Lakehouse, but its too chick flick I think for a couple who want erotism (I can't spell) on valentine's day.

expatinscotland · 27/01/2007 00:04

I like it, too, mears!

I used to write romantic fiction. It's just escapism. But all the potential readers I asked, they'd say they wanted a happy ending, because after all, it's a bit of fantasy.

And you know? I wanted that for them, too.

Life is rough enough. Why not a little manufactured happiness, if just for a moment!?

ledodgy · 27/01/2007 00:05

I admit to liking just like heaven and I also liked that other one with that Ashton im seeing demi moore bloke in now what was it called?

ledodgy · 27/01/2007 00:07

Alot like love now that was alright that was.

expatinscotland · 27/01/2007 00:19

Oooo, which one is this?

I'll watch it!

But I find 'Sense and Sensibility' w/Emma Thompson romantic.

Not the Hugh Grant bit, but the affair between Capt. Brandon and what's-her-face.

theheadgirl · 27/01/2007 00:20

yes, marianne dashwood, and truly madly deeply man. What is the actors name??

expatinscotland · 27/01/2007 00:24

My fantasy husband, Alan Rickman .

theheadgirl · 27/01/2007 00:28

Ahh, thats it. Alan. Loved him in the Texas video, "in demand" I'd tango with him anyday.

Heathcliffscathy · 27/01/2007 00:37

only you. robert downey junior and marisa tomei.

very very romantic.

themoon66 · 27/01/2007 00:48

Truely Madly Deeply is romantic.... but i've not seen it in ages and I suspect it may not look so good these days.
