I mean, in the book shop and they think about how exciting it would be to see a celebrity. And Anna going into some random's house. And then kissing him - I can't get on board with this.

I think the scene in Love Acually I really can't bear is when he's whining to his father about being in love, YEARS before his testicles are likely to drop. And instead of telling h to pull himself together and go and do some homework, Liam Neeson starts to wax lyrical in the most inappropriate way imaginable about screwing Claudia Schoffer in every room of his dead wife's house. I have to restrain myself from shouting.

WhoreGasm · 07/09/2015 11:47

He looks like the bastard love child of Bambi and Peter Pan.

Mrsjayy · 07/09/2015 11:47

Och love actually is being picked apart for me Sad

I often mix him up with that other pixie faced actor who has a face so innocent and winsome that I just want to lean in an whisper 'there's no such thing as Santa Claus'. And then saunter off.

They're probably both 30 now and on their second marriages.

Richard Curtis' films are generally shite.
the same old formula recycled and rehashed, as if we have no memory or intelligence.
one of the worst film directors, IMHO.

TinklyLittleLaugh · 07/09/2015 12:05

He looks quite a lot like my DS1 actually

Mrsjayy · 07/09/2015 12:08

I think i love lindy west Grin

SeaMagic · 07/09/2015 12:24

That is an excellent review of 'Love Actually' Bit

What a crock of sexist shit that film is.

Notting Hill is Citizen Kane in comparison.

At least NH has Julia Roberts in it, and she can actually act even if her character is badly written... However in LA we have to endure the utter crapness of 'I'm quite pretty aren't I?!!!' Keira Shitely.

squoosh · 07/09/2015 12:26

But LA has Laura Linney, and she can act Julia Roberts off the screen.

Mrsjayy · 07/09/2015 12:31

Yes i mix him up with freddie whatshisname too.

GloGirl · 07/09/2015 12:33

I love Notting Hill. The soundtrack is beautiful.

Hate Love Actually

SeaMagic · 07/09/2015 12:37

Yes, but even LL is dire in LA... Although again, I think that is purely due to the crapness of the script and how her character is realised [what is it with the fecking wooly hats?], not her acting.

wickedwaterwitch · 07/09/2015 12:44

Oh THANK YOU for that Jezebel review, fantastic!

wickedwaterwitch · 07/09/2015 12:45

Or 'Ikea Knightly' as Mark Kermode calls her

MrsHenryCrawford · 07/09/2015 13:58

Hugh Grant has been terribly miscast as the charming bumbling romantic lead in way to many films. Much prefer him as an arrogant asshole as he is in Bridget Jones and about a boy, he's much more attractive in these films

InimitableJeeves · 07/09/2015 15:01

What struck me when I watched it was the fact that they had snow on Christmas Eve, when that hasn't happened in London for decades.

InimitableJeeves · 07/09/2015 15:10

But LA has Laura Linney, and she can act Julia Roberts off the screen.

Likewise Emma Thompson

AGreatBigWorld · 07/09/2015 15:22

I saw The Man From Uncle the other week with my sister and noticed that Hugh Grant is now at the end of the cast list at the start as "And Hugh Grant" He plays the usual typical Englishman!

TondelayaDellaVentamiglia · 07/09/2015 15:23

hah...I though I was the only person to watch and critique the navigation!

....I watch London stuff obsessively, there are so many unnecessary cockups

ZanyMobster · 07/09/2015 23:08

Sadly I love Notting Hill, LA, Four weddings and all that crap. NH sound track is fabulous.

We watch lots of heavy going TV/films so I love a good old romcom. I adore Hugh Grant also.

cruikshank · 07/09/2015 23:23

It's a shite film, but Curtis achieved what Enoch Powell never did, which was to have Notting Hill entirely populated by white people.

Hygge · 07/09/2015 23:24

I always suspected he wrote Notting Hill to sell his house.

The blue door was his own house door, and he even has Julia Roberts talk about "the house with the blue door in Notting Hill" so I think he was just making a really expensive Rightmove advert for it. Grin

I really dislike the Honey character in NH, she annoys me so much the rest of the film looks good without her in it.
