I think tonight calls for a really good creepy horror film. Dp hasn't watched many bar saw, but it does need to be realistic-y (ie no zombies/ zombeavers) can be old or new. Ideally on sky rental thing, which most tend to be.

I was thinking maybe the grudge/ring. Preferably nothing too old-fashioned, we tried the birds, Carrie and wicker man but were none too taken.

Please Grin

Oh and YY to The Conjuring.

Suz, after we went to see The Orphanage, DH thought it would be funny to put a pillowcase on his head and sneak up on me. I punched him in the solar plexus, I got such a fright. Not condoning violence here, but he was laughing on the other side of his face after that! Grin

Joy Ride. More gruesome than scary
The hills have eyes.
Amityville 2005
The shining often comes up when there is a discussion about scary films. Brilliant film but not particularly scary IMO though. Those creepy twins though. Talking in unison. Shuuuuudddddddeeeeers and than women in room 237. Double shudddderrerrsss. Yeah put like that I guess it is terrifying
Piranha 3D.
Zombeavers.

Another vote for The Orphanage, Devils Backbone and Rec - there are four Rec films, my favourite is the third but I know I might be alone in that.

Also, Let the Right One In, a Swedish vampire film. There is an American remake (by Hammer) which is pretty good too.

I didn't like the Ring or the Grudge, but Dark Water was really creepy. Also a Korean horror called R-Point, which was creepy and quite weird.

myneighbourtotoro2 · 04/07/2015 18:47

Yes to insidious !

American gothic properly creeped me out .

The exorcist three scared me a lot more than the others did.

TheSameAsTheOneBefore · 04/07/2015 18:51

There's a film on sky box office (sorry not sure if you want to buy one) called It Follows. I have to be honest and say I haven't seen it wimp but it's a psychological horror and has had really good reviews

GriefLeavesItsMark · 04/07/2015 18:54

I recommend The Children. Quite recent English horror. Some gore, but not too much.

MummyPig24 · 04/07/2015 18:56

Shutter Island is good and pretty creepy. More of a thriller I would say.

nannyplumislostinspace · 04/07/2015 19:01

Don't look know.

The orphanage

The omen

Andrewofgg · 04/07/2015 19:15

The Abominable Dr Phibes

GingerFoxInAT0phat · 04/07/2015 19:16

Has anyone else seen the Poughkeepsie tapes??

Nobody I know irl has seen it apart from dh who I watched it with.

Its about a kidnapper and there's a scene in it that scared the fuck out of me. For days. I googled it (no idea why) and apparently it's a bit of a cult scary film.

So yeah if your looking for something creepy I recommend it. Or even just YouTube the scene. (It's easily googable)

TheoriginalLEM · 04/07/2015 19:19

ooooh. we have netflix:)

DameDiazepamTheDramaQueen · 04/07/2015 19:22

The Children is a surprisingly good horror, I agree.

DameDiazepamTheDramaQueen · 04/07/2015 19:24

Iliveinalighthouse - the Shining, not scary, are you kidding??? The old woman, the blood in the corridors, the boy on the tricycle?

doublepotions · 04/07/2015 19:32

Misery, brilliant and horrifying.

TheImprobableGirl · 04/07/2015 20:14

Some brilliant things here, just finishing putting the last errant child to bed and then Chinese ordered and film Chosen! Am really fingers crossed for the orphanage being on sky, or else I'm going for the woman in black (I'm mega Harry Potter nerd Fan) so might put off!

If you can deal with subtitles, A Tale of Two Sisters is well creepy! First saw it at the cinema and then had to buy it on dvd. It is most excellent and very very creepy!

TheImprobableGirl · 04/07/2015 20:46

Already drank a bottle of chardonnay so subtitle are out Wink

The Woman in Black. Makes me anxious just thinking about it.

CaitSith · 04/07/2015 20:50

I don't scare easy but Lake Mungo kept me from sleeping properly for days. Hard to track down, so totally worth it.

Gileswithachainsaw · 04/07/2015 20:55

Don't bother with the babadook. watching it now thanks to this thread Wink

pile of crap. as is the contouring, insidious, sinister, all paranormal activities.

The thing is fab. The omen is good.

am watching with interest as love horrors will look forward to update

bertsdinner · 04/07/2015 20:55

The Thing is pretty scary ( well, I think it is), the original with Kurt Russell.
The Descent wasnt bad.

CigarsofthePharoahs · 04/07/2015 20:57

Odd Thomas is good, on Netflix. Not your average run of the mill horror, there's a bit of thriller in there too.

Gileswithachainsaw · 04/07/2015 21:02

Oooh the exorcism of Emily rose is good

MargotLovedTom · 04/07/2015 21:04

Wolf Creek is as creepy as fuck, with some gore. Seriously creeped me out.
