I just wanted to be Debbie in About Last Night. Cycling around in dungarees looking stunning. Envy

mrsleomcgary · 24/04/2015 21:52

The breakfast club is the best film ever made. End of discussion.

I actually quoted it at work yesterday: The world is an imperfect place, screws fall out all the time. (I work in property and was talking about a landlord who was wanting to retain a deposit because a screw had fallen out a door handle. No one else got it!!!)

I also love St Elmos Fire. Sweaty Rob Lowe in a vest playing a saxaphone...

RemusLupinsBiggestGroupie · 24/04/2015 21:57

I like saying, 'Answer the question, Claire.' Unfortunately, none of my students are called Claire.

Sparklingbrook · 24/04/2015 21:57

No no no mrsleo. BC cannot be the best as Rob Lowe isn't in it. Sad but true. Sad

LyingWitchInTheWardrobe2726 · 24/04/2015 21:58

I've never even seen 'About Last Night'... Shock

Sparklingbrook · 24/04/2015 22:00

You need to watch it Lying.

I'm in my 50s and saw none of these in the 80s. Saw Ferris Bueller for the first time not long ago and absolutely loved it. Dirty Dancing's not bad either.

Sparklingbrook · 24/04/2015 22:06

DH and the DSs think Ferris Bueller is brilliant. I was a bit where's Rob Lowe underwhelmed.

LyingWitchInTheWardrobe2726 · 24/04/2015 22:07

I think I do, Sparkling. It's like a 'recommended text' at school. I know my education is very lacking here, I have no idea what it's even about other than that Rob Lowe is in it. I shall correct this forthwith...

Sparklingbrook · 24/04/2015 22:09

Grin Lying. I might be a bit biased and you will probably be all WTF?

It's a lurrve story. Of sorts.

LyingWitchInTheWardrobe2726 · 24/04/2015 22:14

But I might love it too, Sparkling? Who knows? Even if it doesn't have the delectable Donald Sutherland in it... I'll cope. I really want to watch it now.

I quite like the not-very-obvious love stories, like 'Entrapment'... that's one of the all time greats, IMO, 'Gone with the Wind' is a bit meh, definitely not a love story. Grin

Girlwhowearsglasses · 24/04/2015 22:15

Which is the one where there's a whole thing involving piercing a hole near the bottom of a beer can, then opening it at the top so the whole lot has to be drunk immediately? Not sure I'm explained that well but I'm sure it's in of the brat pack films

spookyskeleton · 24/04/2015 22:18

Finished watching it now... Loved it!

I always hated Ferris Bueller!

Now moved onto The Theory of Everything Smile

I hate FB.

Theory of Everything is well worth watching - Eddie R is unbelievably good.

Starlightbright1 · 24/04/2015 22:21

I have never seen about last night but breakfast club many times..Have it on DVD somewhere..along with pretty in pink.... Top film

springismyfavourite · 24/04/2015 22:22

I am a few years older than you and have never seen it... seems I have been deprived!

PolaDeVeboise · 24/04/2015 22:22

Wasn't that 'The Sure Thing' Girl?

P.S. LOVE The Breakfast Club, St Elmos Fire and About Last Night. Oh, and Some Kind of Wonderful - "break his heart, I break your face" - SOB. Yup, I'm an eighties girl!

Girlwhowearsglasses · 24/04/2015 22:25

Yes that sounds right! Had forgotten it even existed!

pissovski · 24/04/2015 22:28

Loved Breakfast Club! "Don't mess with the bull" (trivia - same actor says same line in Die Hard 1!) Judd Nelson was amazingly good looking

Not fussed with Ferris Bueller or St Elmo's Fire (good tune though!)

My other 80s favourites are Weird Science, Pretty in Pink (i loved Andrew McCarthy!), Some Kind of Wonderful (great snogging scene), The Pick Up Artist (naff but Robert Downey Jr!!) and a film called Shag, with Bridget Fonda and AnnaBeth Gish.

BitterChocolate · 24/04/2015 22:44

Have you seen The Sure Thing? That was one of my favourites at the time.

MyDogEatsBalloons · 24/04/2015 22:50

Anyone else seen Class with Rob Lowe and Andrew McCarthy? My little sixteen year old heart is still swooning.

Methe · 24/04/2015 22:50

It's absolute shit. Nothing happens!

PolaDeVeboise · 24/04/2015 22:51

Come on Bitter, keep up - both myself and GirlWhoWearsGlasses have been talking about it. Great film. LOVE John Cusack. Daphne Zuniga went on to be in Melrose Place .

TBC would make an amazing stage play - would love to to see it.
