Hmm.....I dont mind Dirty Dancing in terms of the story, but the sex would NOT have happened in 50's America. Nice girls were too frightened to do things like that and Baby was a nice girl. She may have rebelled but not that far!

And the script was so predictable and and cheesy, but I thought the story could have been really good if someone else had written and directed it.
Loved the dancing and the music too, except the final dance were everyone joins in, the horrible grumpy old men miraculously saw the error of their ways and everyone just happened to know all the dance moves :o

This is bringing back memories...I am on a roll!

So, Pretty in Pink.

Good premise, dont blame her for not shagging Duckie, would have dumped Andrew McCarthy and shagged the living daylights out of James Spader until he became my adoring shadow. TERRIBLE DRESS!

whatdidthefoxsay · 24/04/2015 23:44

I haven't let my girls watch Dirty Dancing yet, it just seems a bit to grown up for them even though I was about the same age when I saw it first, my sister and I used to sing the alternate lines inBaby oh sweet baby, you're the one!!

Bogeyface · 24/04/2015 23:45

Onto Ferris Bueller.

Even then I thought he was a little shit.

Frankly the kid needed a spell in Juvie (get me with lingo :o) !

Sparklingbrook · 24/04/2015 23:46

Baby's Dad should have punched Johnny's lights out. End of. Plus PS walks funny throughout the film.

Bogeyface · 24/04/2015 23:47

Back to the Future.

Not the same genre but same era, KICKS ASS!

I can watch that film on a loop and still love it :)

whatdidthefoxsay · 24/04/2015 23:48

My daughter feels sorry for Duckie! Funny to think he ended up in 2 and a half men!

Bogeyface · 24/04/2015 23:49

What was that one where a young Molly Ringwald gets pregnant, and they get married and it all goes to hell but then it all ends when they get back together and live the dream with their happy family?

Even then I thought it was unlikely that her student husband would ever come back! He would sail off into the sunset with the cleverest girl in his year and never paid child support!

whatdidthefoxsay · 24/04/2015 23:50

And the remake of Footloose is so bad!! I was embarrassed to tell my teen it wasn't like that!!!!!! Why try to remake a great film... Grease2 springs to mind

Bogeyface · 24/04/2015 23:53

Grease 2 was ......... there are not words to describe how bad that film was! You were just embarrassed for every single cast member! And Frenchie!! She was about 60 when they made it :o

Bogeyface · 24/04/2015 23:54

I cant comment on Footloose, never seen either version!

Debinaround · 24/04/2015 23:54

Fair I remember Letter to Brezhnev. I have never met anyone who has seen it. Love the bit when she gets changed in the toilets. Thought she looked quite good back in the day.Blush

Sparklingbrook · 24/04/2015 23:55

'Rita, Sue and Bob too' anyone? Grin

whatdidthefoxsay · 24/04/2015 23:58

Footloose was just as bad, I couldn't slink more into the sofa cushions from embarrassment!! My teen loves the 80s,even watches TOTP every Thursday, like I did! Am seriously thinking about getting rewind tickets, I'm sure they will be appreciated

Debinaround · 24/04/2015 23:59

Bogey I thought it was called Darceys Baby but after a quick search has came up as For Keeps. Loved that film too.

whatdidthefoxsay · 25/04/2015 00:00

I remember Rita Sue and Bob too,no way are my girls getting to watch that!!

Debinaround · 25/04/2015 00:02

The Rocky Horror Show anyone? I didn't get it the first time I watched it. Watched it a few years ago and loved it even more. Grin

RemusLupinsBiggestGroupie · 25/04/2015 00:02

Love the original Footloose.

Rita, Sue etc is a vile, vile film.

Mumzy · 25/04/2015 00:03

80s/ early 90s films I can still watch: Risky Business, Back to the future, Ghost and Strictly Ballroom. These seem to have stood the test of time

whatdidthefoxsay · 25/04/2015 00:07

Ghost is a fantastic film, one of the first I watched with my girls, pretty woman too but did fast forward the unsuitable bits, we also love love actually, not an 80s film but it is such a feel good film and it could have been 80s?!?

Bogeyface · 25/04/2015 00:08

Rita, Sue and Bob too

I thought that was hilarious and brilliant when I first saw it and its another one I have watched since that is actually very tragic.

Spousal abuse, cheating, manipulative grooming men, girls with no self esteem who think that shagging a man with a bit of money will change their lives........very sad.

whatdidthefoxsay · 25/04/2015 00:09

And dirty dancing reminds me of my sister, we feel out and never resolved it so every time I see it I remember her and the awesome times we had

Bogeyface · 25/04/2015 00:10

I thought Ghost was dreadful, but I fully admit that that may be because the first time I watched it was with my friend and her boyfriend and he sobbed the whole way through. She married him, fuck knows why! :o

Sparklingbrook · 25/04/2015 00:13

Has the worst 80s film ever come up yet? Bloody Top Gun. I hate it.

whatdidthefoxsay · 25/04/2015 00:13

Haha boyeyface, I hated mamma Mia because of similar reasons, now it's in my top 20!!!
