Howdy!
I love me a bit of Oscars night action, I always stay up all night and watch the ceremony live.
This year I'm actually hopeful to achieve seeing every film nominated for Best Picture before the ceremony. I had to go to the cinema three times this past weekend to get them all in but so far I've seen Imitation Game (loved it), The Theory of Everything (loved it, sobbed!), Boyhood (enjoyed it more than I thought I would) and Grand Budapest Hotel (thought it was ok but nothing very special)
So I've got to see Whiplash, Selma, American Sniper and Birdman. I'm not looking forward to American Sniper but Bradley Cooper might make it ok and I think Birdman might be weird...

Anyone trying to do the same?

I was wondering why Rita ora was there.

MaudeLebowski · 23/02/2015 03:03

Does anybody have a running order for the ceremony?

I'm exhausted, up at half 6 and am only staying up for the Documentary category.

AlpacaPicnic · 23/02/2015 03:17

I was hoping someone would say something controversial! Meryl streep seemed to enjoy it Grin

NPH is not being as funny as I hoped. I did like his appearance in his pants.

NPH seems struck by the sudden realisation that his script ain't funny & he's dying in front of billions of people looking like Hmm

Lweji · 23/02/2015 03:28

Yes, I'm underwhelmed by it all.

MaudeLebowski · 23/02/2015 03:48

Found the running order!

Will be off to bed in a few it seems. A client is nominated. This is very nerve-wracking stuff.

TensionWheelsCoolHeels · 23/02/2015 04:06

Travolta looks weird.

Icapturethecastle · 23/02/2015 04:41

Such great speeches tonight the chap who won for The Imitation Game was wonderful. Crying again - maybe just I need to go to sleep!

Go on Richard Linklater for Best Director please!

TheCrimsonQueen · 23/02/2015 04:57

Eddie Redmayne best actor. Oh well still hoping GBH wins best film.

AlpacaPicnic · 23/02/2015 05:12

Grand Budapest hotel seemed to get a lot of techy awards, almost like a a policy for not getting serious awards. I'm glad imitation game won something and I cried at his speech as well. In fact a lot of speeches had a message this year - call your parents, keep being wierd, pay women fairly!

I don't fancy Birdman at all

boogiewoogie · 23/02/2015 13:05

So glad that Eddie Redmayne won for his role. His speech was lovely and his dw looks beautiful swelling with pride as he dedicated his prize to her at the end.

iklboo · 23/02/2015 19:00

Trevolting Travolta looked like Odi from Deep Space 9 doing an Elvis impersonation.

iklboo · 23/02/2015 19:01

Odo not Odi. Bloody auto correct. He didn't look like Garfield's doggy friend Grin.

BOFster · 23/02/2015 19:06

My favourite speech was by the guy who won Best Adapted Screenplay for The Imitation Game. So moving.

GettingFiggyWithIt · 23/02/2015 21:55

Twas all a bit meh. I had a guardian bingo card which filled up pretty quickly.
Bit sorry for Linklater, thought he might have won something as last year the awards for film and director went to different people. Wes Anderson whilst not winning at least had the opportunity to bask in the warm glow that all the techies working with him rated him so much.
NPH was not the worst, it's just he was neither doing a Jackman doing musical theatre throughout nor was he or is he a stand up guy but one spontaneous joke and him standing in his pants was enough for me easily pleased
Not as good as Tina and Amy though. It is a tough gig mind.
Does Oprah go to all these now then or did she produce something?
Going to see big hero 6 tomorrow.

TensionWheelsCoolHeels · 23/02/2015 22:33

Oprah was executive producer of Selma. Think she had a part in it too.

GettingFiggyWithIt · 24/02/2015 00:17

Ah okay. That would make sense as it got a nomination for best picture didn't it?
