Mine are,
The Deer Hunter - really shook me up and stayed in my head for a long time.
The Exorcist - watched it in secret with my big sister, it terrified me and I couldn't sleep for weeks.
The Sound of Music - the whole family watched it together every Christmas, so it just makes me feel good.
Good Morning Vietnam - fell in love with Robin Williams.
Thelma and Louise - girl power, and Brad Pitt, enough said.

I loved Farewell my Concubine, too Action. It lead to an obsession with Chinese cinema in my late teens. Taped them all off Chanel four- raise the red lantern was my favourite.

thisisnow · 21/01/2015 11:54

The Craft - I thought those witches were so cool!

OnlyLovers · 21/01/2015 12:15

The Shining. Utterly terrified me. Watched it too young, I think. I still think it's awesome.

The Lost Boys. Adored and played to death the soundtrack. Fancied Corey Haim (RIP) madly. Coveted his dressing gown and Star's long curly hair. Wanted to live in California in that falling-down house and have that curmudgeonly grandpa and Dianne Wiest as my mum.

Truly Madly Deeply. I SO wanted that lovely middle-class quasi-intellectual lifestyle: having a piano at home, and reading novels in translation while my Russian friend made me borscht, and taking strolls to lovely cafes in Hampstead. SO far removed from my actual experience growing up.

Later on, I saw Reservoir Dogs in my first year at uni and it blew me away. Electrifying. Remember thinking I didn't know cinema could be like that.
