Mine are,
The Deer Hunter - really shook me up and stayed in my head for a long time.
The Exorcist - watched it in secret with my big sister, it terrified me and I couldn't sleep for weeks.
The Sound of Music - the whole family watched it together every Christmas, so it just makes me feel good.
Good Morning Vietnam - fell in love with Robin Williams.
Thelma and Louise - girl power, and Brad Pitt, enough said.

The Goonies
The Princess Bride (can't wait for DD to watch this one!)
Stand By Me
the Shawshank Redemption ( yes there's a Stephen King bias here)
Pulp Fiction
Thelma & Louise
Interview With A Vampire
Can watch all of these over and over. There are plenty more but had to stop there or I'd be going on forever!

EmilyCHN · 22/01/2015 11:51

Everything Disney up to 1998!
The Goonies (can recite verbatim and had a crush on "Mouth")
Se7en (watched it at a sleepover aged 13?, my parents were horrified when I got home and threatened to ring the parents to complain..)
Dirty Dancing.. the first adult film I watched aged about 10 at a friend's house. I didn't understand half of what was going on and thought Penny had a tummy upset not an abortion..
Indiana Jones 1/2/3

Zebrasinpyjamas · 22/01/2015 18:53

Arachnophobia had a massive impact in me after watching it at a sleepover. I still can't put my hand in popcorn, get in the shower, open a box of cereal without the thought of a man eating spider jumping out at me melodramatic

On a happier note, Grease (remember singing it endlessly in the school play ground).

3 men and a baby is my mum's favourite film so I remember seeing that at the cinema when I was v young.

Coyote Ugly was a big hit for me as a teenager but I've never had high brow tastes!

Personally I grew up watching films from the '30's-60's mainly on BBC2. In those days modern films were only a/v at the cinema so I was exposed to films from other eras with the social mores of the times, warts and all, that today's youngsters with niche marketing will never come across. I think that's a shame. Even a lot of the films that people mention here are rarely if ever shown on terrestrial/freeview channels.

Rivercam · 25/01/2015 14:04

Children of a Lesser God
Mandy (old film I saw on TV about a deaf child called Mandy)
Sister Kenny ( another film I saw on TV about a nurse who found a cure for a type of childhood paralysis)
carry on films
Aliens

LoadsaBlusher · 25/01/2015 16:19

JFK - had to watch it for modern studies class at school and the whole JFK shooting / conspiracy thing stuck in my mind for a while

Threads - the nuclear aftermath story, again , shown on the jumbo telly on wheels in Modern Studies class. Gave me nightmares for years!
Jurassic Park - I remember being wowed by the special effects.

Titanic - went to see it twice, with my boyfriend of the time and cried buckets.

LoadsaBlusher · 25/01/2015 16:22

Ha , also was very afraid of Critters !
I used to make sure my feet were not dangling out of the side of the bed just in case a rolling , hungry critter had a bite!
Wasn't there a scene where someone was dangling out of a bed and got crittered ? Shock

Stand By Me (started my love of River Phoenix) - I do think this film is a classic and can recite the script! Kiefer Sutherland was the other standout performance
The Lost Boys -RIP Corey Haim. I was gutted my second favourite teen hero also died. Amazing soundtrack and showed the potential of Kiefer Sutherland.
Ferris Bueller's Day Off - I love the sheer joy of this whole film
The Accused - my first cert 18 film
Maurice -the first film I watched with gay relationships. I bawled my eyes out at the cinema and felt that understanding you think you have as a teen.
Pretty Woman - so funny and loved Julia Roberts in her role

The Seventh Seal
It's a Wonderful Life
The Magnificent Ambersons
Animal Farm
West Side Story

I'm so glad someone else adores 'In the Mood for Love' as much as I do - it's wonderful.

ohmymimi · 29/01/2015 14:37

dazzling - I saw 'The Haunting' at the cinema in '64 when I was 16, the scariest film I'd ever seen until Blair Witch.
