Harry Potter and the Deathly Hallows

I've just been to the cinema to see this and to my surprise enjoyed it as I'm not a fan of the HP films preferring the books.

We watched it in 3D and at times it was amazing, I would go so far as to say it's the best film I've seen in the 3D format.

I took my 6 year old DS and we bumped into a classmate of the same age in the cinema and the boys did not find it scary or sad at all - in fact the part of the film that distressed them both the most was "the kiss" which they both gave a very French "beurk". So if anyone who has younger children was considering but was concerned I'd say go for it.

I can't comment on the language because we watched it in French but I was surprised by how many "merdes" were being flung about so maybe there is some bad language in the English version.

In the books Luna and Neville don't get together; in an interview JK had Luna marry someone else and then disappear searching for some strange creatures, Neville I think didn't get married but became a teacher at Hogwarts.

I took my grandparents last night (both in their mid-70's, myself in my early 20's).
My grandad said it was his favourite of the films by far, he thought the fights were great (he has fallen asleep during the earlier films but was awake until the end!!!). My grandma thought that the film looked amazing, she has read all the books several times and said, "I'm glad they did a good job".

I, on the other hand, was a bit disappointed that there was a lot that was missed out. (tonk and lupins baby, their death- you can tell by my screen name who my fave character is/was).

There wasn't enough of the battle at Hogwarts. I'm sure that Mrs Weasley and Prof. McGonnegal both have a long drawn out battle with Bellatrix in the book, its a shame that her death was so, abrupt.

But, having said that I did enjoy it, I had my little cries: especially Snapes reactions to Lily's death, and baby harry in the cot being talked to by his mother (much better than in the book).

I wish they had done more with Ron and Hermione's chemistry throughout the last few films. In the first half (in the book) when they're torturing Hermione at Malfoy Manor and Ron is screaming "No, take me, take me!" I thought that it said a lot about how much he loved her, etc. But it wasn't in the movie.

And I didn't like the way the kiss was done in this one either. But overall I loved the movie. :)

I'm guessing they tried a few wet and steamy looks in the eyes but the actors couldn't manage it.... - so they went for comedy jump and giggle instead....

I always did think that Harry will eventually go for Ginny, simply because of her red hair and the fact that Harry looks like James. So another Lily and James of sorts.

JKR was asked to play Lily Potter in the movies, but she declined.

you know - i think as an adult looking back on my later school (mid teen) years i put a passion in the characters in the book that isn't there in the film - the teen 'life or death' stuff is really real in this story but the films just don't cut it - and there is no sexual passion at all between R&H or H&G - i mean, it's all we could think about at 17 (even if we weren't doing it).....

At the end of the day it's a chlidren's book and a children's film.....too much blood, gore, anger or nooky would have got the censors pretty riled

just been tonight, disappointed sadly :( it was so rushed, just leaping from plot point to plot point with hardly any dialogue. characters just popping up places with no explanation. i know they can't fit everything in but there was just so much of this book missing that it feels like i've just been to see a trailer. such a shame, i'd have been happy with 3 films to make it worthwhile.

but i still enjoyed it, i cried a few times. but i was putting my own emotions into it from reading the books for 10 years and knowing the characters so well etc. if you saw the films without reading the books i think that one would have been bewildering.

I've seen it twice now, once with my daughter and once with my husband and both kids. I loved it. I know the books well and I have great affection for them. You can't judge the film based on the book.

I think DR did a great job. The whole point of the character of HP is that he is just a normal kid to whom extraordinary things happen. He is not a particularly characterful guy - it's tough to act that sort of role. DR has worked really hard on his craft and it has paid dividends. He's come a long way from Philosopher's Stone in which he really was cr ... not particularly impressive.

But the film belonged to Alan Rickman and Ralph Fiennes. Just magnificent, both of them. I wept a lot at the pensieve scenes and I thought Voldemort's final demise was perfect. The whole point is that he has been slowly destroyed through the horcruxes until all that is left of him is a brittle shell with no internal substane whatsoever, and when Harry finally confronts what's left of him, he simply disintegrates. Perfect. And beautifully rendered on screen. I found it very effective.

I think my most memorable moment, oddly enough, was the spidery hug Voldemort gave Draco. It was so creepy and weird and disturbing - brilliant moment.

And I have to put a word in for my main man Lucius. Poor, darling, pathetic, hopeless thing. Jason Isaacs just perfection once again, even though it was painful to watch. Still, if Luci needs some TLC after all that, he can come to me.

Watching today. Watched all films since Saturday & my favourite is 7a. The obliviate scene with Hermionies parents is very good and the travelling stuff is very good despite there wasn't much happening

I enjoyed the film, it's a shame there wasn't any more battle , it's all shown from Harrys POV & he misses a lot

Well went again today and loved it even more. Room of requirement bit very exciting, broomsticks etc and Maggie Smith perfect, especially the bit with Snape in assembly hall, loved it, loved it, loved it!

Considering the travesty of the film of HP6, I think this last film was not bad. Yes, parts were done differently, and parts were missing (the whole of Dumbledore's early life for instance) but some things people have objected to, eg the final battle between Harry and Voldemort, I thought were well done.

I actually think Daniel Radcliffe has improved as an actor. He does agony and fear much better than he used to (in film 4 for instance). I find it hard to separate Harry from Daniel. I think they are both ordinary boys who find themselves in extraordinary circumstances, both compassionate, sensitive, polite and prepared to see things through, so that helps a bit with the fact that Daniel's acting skills probably aren't up to the job. The scene where he uses the resurrection stone to see his parents, Lupin and Sirius was beautifully done imo.

And I didn't mind that this last film was all Harry and little of Hermione and Ron as that is my impression of the book too. Afterall, ultimately, it had to come down to Harry and Voldemort. I think giving Harry all the screen time helped to emphasize that.

I took DD and one of her friends to see it today. We all thought it was awesome. I enjoyed it far more than Deathly Hallows part 1. What a fantastic film to end a series!
