Rape case - distressing content - have they got away with it?

BBC news report

Hopefully this link works but I really wish it wasn’t necessary to post this.

Two teenage girls, separately raped by a group of boys. Premeditated. Filmed. Convicted. And still the rapists get to go home with a non custodial sentence. I’m disgusted but not shocked.

Those poor girls. Reporting what happened and giving evidence. Yes, they were believed. But the sentences are woeful.

They did this TWICE and no custodial sentence? That is appalling. I can't imagine being a teenager girl, subject to such appalling abuse, having to go through the trauma of giving evidence, and then see my attackers being given such a pathetic sentence. This has made me so furious.

fancypantss · 21/05/2026 14:14

Just came to post about this too, absolutely appalling.

'Two of the boys' mothers burst into tears as Judge Nicholas Rowland told the attackers "none of you need to go to prison today".

Those poor girls, raped by vile, dangerous misogynists who then practically get away with it.

Sheggsie · 21/05/2026 14:15

I have read the news and I’m so very shocked at the leniency of the sentences for convictions of the rapists. How very sad for the two young girls and their families as no justice has been served here.

I have requested a review, please do the same, it’s not acceptable.

Ohcrap082024 · 21/05/2026 14:28

Thank you @professionalcommentreaderI will fill that in.

I absolutely believe that these boys need rehabilitation to prevent future crimes. But, the concept of punishment should never be removed from our justice system. Where is the punishment element of their sentence?

They planned their rapes. They repeated their rapes. They get to go home to Mummy.

We can actually do something about this https://www.gov.uk/ask-crown-court-sentence-review

Thank you - I have filled in this form.

professionalcommentreader · 21/05/2026 14:39

Fantastic for those also completing the form, this really needs to be challenged (and many others) we did this with another one and the two men involved did receive a higher sentence. It’s a good way of showing strength, solidarity for those brave girls and strength of feeling which Courts often are within a bubble of ignorance.

obsessedlex · 21/05/2026 14:40

HI - I'm trying to fill in the form - this is absolutely disgusting! But it is asking me for the name of the person that is sentenced? How would I find that please?

floppybit · 21/05/2026 14:42

I too would like to fill in the form, can we have some more details to enable us to complete it please?

You can put a link to the case, they are not named due to ages. https://www.cps.gov.uk/wessex/news/three-teenage-boys-sentenced-after-two-girls-raped-separate-attacks

obsessedlex · 21/05/2026 14:50

Done

Ohcrap082024 · 21/05/2026 14:52

I’ve submitted a form. For the name, I put “Unknown due to the defendants being under 18”

Crown court is Southampton, today’s date.

I have my reasons along the lines of premeditation, lack of remorse as shown by the length of time between the 2 cases. Use of a weapon. Use of social media to humiliate. Joint enterprise.

Also worth noting one girl was raped at knife point
Which the boys denied but evidence was found to substantiate the girls claim

These boys did not admit guilt
They made the girls go to court ! To relive the gang rapes all over again !

They should not have been allowed to go home. They should have had a long custodial sentence

What the hell is wrong with parents who cry with relief because their rapist sons are allowed to walk free
Have they no shame!!!

Thanks so much for this link
and to those also who have offered advice on how to fill in

LumpyandBumps · 21/05/2026 15:26

I have also completed the form.
The judge should be ashamed. He doesn’t want to criminalise children? He didn’t need to. They ARE criminals. They have been found guilty of several crimes.

agree
he doesn’t want to criminalise children but ok with the rapists of children to walk away

The strong victims voices need to be heard and recognised;

The victim impact statements described profound and ongoing trauma experienced by both girls after the assaults.

The 15-year-old victim said the attack had destroyed her sense of safety and badly affected her mental health. In a poem included with her statement, she expressed feelings of despair, emotional numbness, and suicidal thoughts. She described living with fear and the lasting psychological impact of being assaulted while others laughed and filmed it.

The 14-year-old victim said she felt emotionally disconnected after the assault and struggled to trust or relate to people around her. She described feeling numb, withdrawn, and permanently changed by what happened.

Twinandatwoyearold · 21/05/2026 15:53

What rapists need is long unpleasant jail sentences but we discuss rehabilitation as if a bit of education will stop a knife attack gang rape.

97% of reported rapists get away with it in Britain. It’s common knowledge globally that we don’t protect English girls from rapists.

I am suprised rapey men don’t come here just to rape - it’s not hard. You are pretty much guaranteed to get away with it.

We need far tougher sentences. To deport every foreign criminal to free up prison spaces and to give rapists long boring sentences.

Instead people say ‘we don’t want to ruin the boys lives’ or ‘rehabilitation’ or let’s give them counselling and free art classes in prison.

What about the victims? By letting off rapists you are once again damaging the victims.

Our justice system is pathetic. And those poor girls have been let down massively by our weak, shit, justice system.

13570user · 21/05/2026 15:55

I’ve completed the form. I hope lots of people complete it. Those poor girls. They must feel so let down. The judge gave the boys praise for being well behaved in court. I bet those lads can’t believe their luck.

AmserGwely · 21/05/2026 15:59

I came on to see if anyone had posted about this. Absolutely disgusting that they were given community sentences.

I have asked that the sentence be reviewed as unduly lenient.

The level of premeditation - forcing one of the girls to leave her phone and airtag demonstrates that they made efforts to avoid detection.

I would be horrified if my son did this, and was not sentenced to prison.

Those brave girls, came forward and were treated abysmally by the "justice" system.

professionalcommentreader · 21/05/2026 16:01

Thank you so much everyone who has submitted their forms, we can’t stand back anymore, we need action and if this is the only way to do it, so be it, I’m so over woman and girls being treated as a witness and not a victim, or a human, or a survivor despite the actions of the perpetrators who’s circumstances are considered over and above those brave enough to go to Court.

They need to know they have support, they are believed and the Police often struggle to bring cases to Court. No more, no more!

NastyNits · 21/05/2026 16:13

I read this on the BBC and was horrified. I came straight here to see I was not alone - I have completed the form asking for a review.

What message does this send to young girls and young boys? It says that boys can get away with a slap on the wrist and to girls demonstrates that society values protecting the boys over them. I am so angry.

PrizedPickledPopcorn · 21/05/2026 16:20

3month curfew!

10 year ban on contacting the girls.

Shared on social media, premeditated.

Little fuckers.
