Vile and sexist. He would not have done this to Keir Starmer.

Surprised there’s not a thread about it already.

Absolutely horrific behaviour. He's a misogynistic snob.

Discovereads · 29/06/2022 23:09

The whole climate is toxic. This type of roasting goes on all the time in Parliament. I often tune in to watch the lunatic MPs as they try and win the creative insult of the day award. It’s rather like watching ice hockey games purely to see the fist fights. MPs think jeering at each other is their job. They don’t give a shit about governing.

MandyMotherOfBrian · 29/06/2022 23:10

Dominic Raab. A Right winker.

Egghead68 · 29/06/2022 23:12

It’s the patronising sexist aspect to this that is so vile imo - it’s not just standard roasting although I agree that they/we could really do without that.

So incredibly creepy and there is no way he'd do it to Keir Starmer. Just grim.

I didn’t see anything particularly sexist about it. I’ve watched a lot of Parliament TV in my day. They simply don’t hold their punches just because an MP is female.

Do you think he would have winked at a man?

I don’t see why not. I’ve seen men that sort of unfriendly wink at other men specifically to incite them to throw the first punch.

I don't like AR but she should be treated with respect.
What on earth is that wink about?
Sexist idiot.

OppsUpsSide · 29/06/2022 23:25

Do you think he would have winked at a man?

I don’t think it would have been reported if he had.

CherrySocks · 29/06/2022 23:25

The type of "debate" that happens in the Commons is ridiculous. What is the point of personal attacks? Why can't they discuss policy in a mature way?

I didn’t see it as a sleazy wink. It was more of a “ha ha got you” wink. When you listen to what he is saying when he winks, it makes no sense to think of it as a sexual/sleazy thing.

TooBigForMyBoots · 29/06/2022 23:31

Would that be the same Dominic Raab who opposes women's rights to abortion?🤔

The Conservative Party are no friend to women.

Discovereads · 29/06/2022 23:35

Dominic Raab is also no friend to the disabled. He’s a horrible person.

MangyInseam · 30/06/2022 04:13

What did AR think of it?

MPs don't always have the adversarial relationship that the public tend to assume, even across parties. There was one MP in my country who was widely considered to be an aggresive blowhard by the public, I was quite surprised to find out that civil service staff thought he was one of the best MPs to work for and he was really popular with them. My point being I wouldn't assume I understand the specifics of what's going on in an interaction like this.

I don't think it's necessarily the case that because a social interaction is different between opposite sex people than it i between same sex people that it is sexist. But winking is not very parliamentary in any case. But I'd put it at the level of a minor bad judgement rather than something more serious.

SaintHelena · 30/06/2022 05:17

The raucous laughter at Dominic Raab's joke was pretty fake. See Sunak almost rolling in the aisles. SExism but both sides are as bad. I think I might be more likely to vote labour with AR at the top.

User46489 · 30/06/2022 05:21

Article posted above mentions football players doing it, it was similar to that.

Roselilly36 · 30/06/2022 06:17

What on earth was he thinking of? Just bizarre.

Egghead68 · 30/06/2022 06:41

Let’s not forget it comes on the back of this:

Dominic Raab thinks misogyny can be directed at men. He doesn’t know Dover is and important port and thinks the sea can be closed.

Some village is missing it’s idiot. There’s such a pathetic lack of talent in the cabinet. That’s what happens when you choose people for loyalty rather than any skill.

Lottle · 30/06/2022 06:56

When I heard about it I thought it really wasn't on. When I watched it, it was even worse than i thought. Creepiest wink I've ever seen. He'll have done that multiple times before, to women he thinks he has power over.

TooBigForMyBoots · 30/06/2022 12:42

They showed it on Loose Women.🧐🤢🤮

CataTonic58 · 30/06/2022 14:50

Love Angela Rayner. She doesn't take any shit.
