Those with spouse that has mental illness, or vice versa. Did you stay or leave? Did your spouse stay or leave? And if you don't mind share what is your illness?

I was diagnosed with severe anxiety and Intermittent Anger Explosive Disorder (IED), yep that is a mental illness, you can Google it.

My husband when meet me since day one know I am a girl with mental illness, and severe anxiety. He went on married me and stay 16 years long, and still stay.

I am currently in therapy working on my Intermittent Anger Explosive Disorder (IED).

Not my husband but my dad. My mum stayed every step of the way.

sorry to hear about your struggles. How are you finding therapy?

May I asked, what was your dad diagnosed, I see alot of people have bipolar, there like a whole thread on bipolar I see in this section.

I don't have bipolar, but I have Anger issue.

Therapy help alot with my Anger control. My husband also come with me to my therapy sessions too (I asked the therapist if he can come and she gave an OK), it helps alot as I have anxiety. .

But my anxiety though, nothing helps, I spiral alot in anxiety, it like a loop, I play the events back in my head over and over again, it a constant loop with anxiety.

He married me fully aware I have mental illness. It been 16 years with him, it a blessing for sure.

Yes - he was diagnosed with psychosis in his late 40s. So it didn’t start this way. It was hard as he wasn’t the same person - but we loved him fiercely nonetheless.

I’m happy to hear that your therapy is working and your husband is so supportive. Are you learning about that triggers you?

Have you found anything at all that helps with anxiety? Medication, meditation, yoga?

OtterlyAstounding · 02/10/2026 01:02

You again? Are you just looking for validation in regards to abusing your spouse?

My dad not my husband. But yes my mum was an amazing wife.

are you on anti depressants? I hope you find peace OP.

My ex had BPD and paranoid delusional disorder. I left him because he was abusive, which may or may not have had anything to do with his mental illnesses but if he hadn't been abusive I'm not sure I could have stayed anyway, his paranoid delusions were too difficult to deal with and he always refused to seek help. He ended up being put in the psych ward three times against his will, after I left, but each time he stopped treatment after being released.

Beenaroundabit · 02/10/2026 04:44

My ex was loosely diagnosed with depression but refused to do anything about it - wouldn't take meds, wouldn't consider any lifestyle changes.

He was also an abusive cunt, whether or not this was an effect of the depression. I did not have to stay to support him with the depression he refused to get help with, and I certainly didn't have to endure any sort of abuse (should have left years before I did...)

I hope that her spouse, who she stabbed, finds peace.

Don't lie.

I throw a knife at him, not stab. There is a difference between throw a knife at someone, and stab someone.

I throw a knife at him, he dodge but because we were in close distance with each others, the knife cut a big open wound on back of his shoulder.

Again, stab and throw not the same thing.

I throw a knife at my husband during one of my Intermittent Anger Explosive Disorder (IED) flare ups. He still had the scar from it.

My husband is 190cm tall, he 6'3" tall and athletic body, while I'm just 148cm, 4'11" petite short. This is a man who hobbies are hunting, outdoor shooting range, mountains rock climbing, run long distance.
With his height and strength, he not scare of me, if he hit me back in self dense I would be dead.
He did say, he not scare of me, he stays because he loves me.

And he has restrain me before. He actually very strong, there times where he use his body to restrain me that I couldn't even move an inch.

Both my DH and I have diagnosed personality disorders and I have a somewhat high threshold for questionable behaviour. He can get explosive angry episodes, but he knows how to control them and not physically harm people. Not because he cares but because this would destroy his life as a consequence.

If my husband ever did anything like you did I'd know that I'd have to leave.
And I think it's disturbing that you don't seem to show any regret or shame for what you have done to your DB. It even looks like you are somewhat proud that he is so bonded to stay with you despite having been hurt so badly. How very sad.

Oh, yes, the problem is here is my use of language not the fact that you could have killed your husband.

To be fair, he kills animals for pleasure and sport, so maybe they're quite a good match.

Beenaroundabit · 02/10/2026 06:20

His life is at risk from your alleged medical condition. That you are massively downplaying and don't seem to be able to recognise the seriousness of.

He should run a mile. And keep running.

PurpleLovecats · 02/10/2026 10:54

Are you looking for validation from all these posts? I don’t think you’ll get it.

My husband and family have stayed. I’ve had psychotic episodes where I’ve had thoughts of harming them but I’ve never acted on them. If I did, I think I’d leave assuming I wasn’t in a MH unit or prison.

pinkdelight · 02/10/2026 11:29

Sounds fucked up. You don't even sound like you care that you wounded him, more like you think it's funny and not a big deal. He should leave before you kill him, but I don't expect you to acknowledge that. Sounds like you post a lot and must get some kind of a bang out of going over it and getting reactions on here.

Do you know the OP? Sorry didn’t see anything about stabbing, hence what I’m asking. However regardless, I do hope both find peace.

This is at least her third thread in two days, and she talked about stabbing her husband (sorry, throwing a knife at her husband) in a thread that she's since had deleted.

Oh I see - I didn’t see that thread you mention. I always wonder how people can see others threads that posters have posted. But that is a me problem 😂

I read that thread in "real time", but you can also do it be doing an advanced search and using the poster's username (you can filter so you see all of their posts or just the first post of thread that they started). There's also a way of looking if you click on the three dots in the top right (but only if you had a paid subscription - at least, I cannot do it).

Yep. He has his own problem too. He admit it that he obsess with me to the point it did cross his mind that he wants to rape me.

We both have our mental health problems. That why I said we belong together, 2 people have mental health problems belong together.

My ex husband had depression and I suspect other mental health issues that are undiagnosed.

i stuck it out the first time pre kids but years down post children he left. And im glad. Having a wife/husband/partner with mental health issues is incredibly draining and wearing. There is a selfishness on the part of the person with the diagnosis. You can’t possibly have a bad day or feel down or sad or whatever because their day is sooo much worse because they have a diagnosis don’t you know. You get treated like a doormat, like shit and that’s without having knives thrown at you. And you can’t complain because you are so supposed to be supportive, in sickness and in health and all that, because they are ill. And don’t they use that at every opportunity - it’s not my fault…it’s because I’m ill because I have xyz

with that diagnosis the behaviour would be labelled as abusive….
