hi naswm,
dont know if it will help, but when i feel like this i put on a talking book - one that is very light, either terry pratchett or pgwodehouse's jeeves and wooster. I know i wont have my emotions messed with and it really helps to stop all the 'stuff' going round in my head. Do you have headphones so you wouldnt disturb dh and ds?
