Sertraline just started, is this okay?

I started 50mg Sertraline 3 days ago. It's making me feel so drowsy and nauseous and anxious. I feel like the dose is maybe too high for me or something. I'm
A little afraid to take the next dose, in case I get much more drowsy and anxious! I've got two young kids to look after on my own.

Anyone experienced this? Is this normal and will it subside?

What doses are people on?

I started on 50mg for 3 weeks and then upped to 100mg which I've been on for a month. I thought things were getting better but I just don't know if they are. Still have some days when I just don't want to move or I collapse into tears.

Squiggles23 · 14/01/2024 08:51

That’s why I take mine in the morning OP!

OhpoorMe · 14/01/2024 09:00

It will all pass - a couple of weeks and you'll have few/no symptoms. 50mg is a big g starting dose though so if you really struggle, consider doing 25mg for a couple of weeks then upping. That's how I was started on it

@happypillsareworking I’m on 200mg a day x

Maybe I need to up my dose. Is a month enough time to tell?

Scutterbug · 14/01/2024 13:20

@happypillsareworking I was on 50 for years but then it was increased when I had a bit of a breakdown a few years ago. I think I moved to 100, then 150 then 200 with about a month on each before increasing? I now take them in conjunction with haloperidol, mirtazapine (coming off this though), lamotrigine and risperidone. I rattle when I walk!

I’m on 50mg and about 4 weeks in. Still feeling really anxious and rubbish.. is that normal?

PurpleOrchid42 · 15/01/2024 13:54

The side effects are wearing off now, and I'm feeling so much better. Thank you everyone who provided advice and words of encouragement, I definitely would've stopped a couple of days ago if it weren't for you!

Make sure you have a huge drink with it if you switch to taking it before bed as can give bad heartburn! Good luck op, will be worth it in the long run x

I started Sertraline last week and have been taking it first thing so it doesn’t disrupt my sleep. I’ve noticed nausea, lack of appetite, my lips feel a bit tingly/fuller and I’ve got a few ulcers on my lips/tongue so hoping that passes soon as I’m struggling to eat much. I was advised to start on 25mg a day for 8 days then up to 50mg a day. Already feeling more positive and less anxious

Takes 2 weeks to reach therapeutic levels. Hang on in there.

Downandout21 · 15/01/2024 14:21

I take mine about 6ish in the evening with food. My GP also prescribed low dose diazepam to get me through the first couple of weeks

I wish that they had days of the week like the pill as I always worry that I have/haven't taken it 🤦🏼‍♀️

Something like this? Boxsik Pill Box Organiser (Rainbow), 7-Day 1 Times a Day Medicine Storage Case w/Spring Opening & Swappable Lids, Weekly Tablet Pills Container for Vitamins, Supplements & Travel Medication amzn.eu/d/1aUl94f

That’s wonderful to hear @PurpleOrchid42 so glad you are feeling better - 🤞🏼 it makes a difference 💜🌸

Hope the side effects settle down soon @Whosthatgirll - it’s brill you are feeling better already. X

Hello, how are you getting on?. I started on 25mg last week and upped to 50mg this week, still feeling really nauseous, anxious and shakey but I'm praying it will settle down after a couple of weeks on 50mg. I've never taken anything like this before so I didn't know what to expect.

Excellent idea. The first few weeks are truly awful

I was put straight on 50mg, and I'm only small, so I think it was a big shock for my body. I felt awful for the first 4 days, but day 5, I felt fine! I do feel like my emotions have evened out a little bit already 🤞🏻

Keep going with it OP. Honestly, it gets better. For me it was about 7/8 days into taking I stopped feeling so wired and erratic. It had made such a positive change to me in the long run. But I do remember the first few days think 'hat the hell am I doing this isn't working I feel 1000 times worse then I did with out it'. But now I feel balanced.

CocoPlum · 16/01/2024 10:34

Been on sertraline for over a decade. I get the tingling feeling now if I miss a dose.

Tbh I was very newly postnatal when I started it so hard to remember side effects but it is a life saver. This bit is hard, keep going x
