I started 50mg Sertraline 3 days ago. It's making me feel so drowsy and nauseous and anxious. I feel like the dose is maybe too high for me or something. I'm
A little afraid to take the next dose, in case I get much more drowsy and anxious! I've got two young kids to look after on my own.

Anyone experienced this? Is this normal and will it subside?

What time of day are you taking it? I changed to taking it at bedtime as it made me drowsy. Also, it’ll take a couple of weeks at least for side effects to settle. All the best 💐

Lizzbear · 13/01/2024 15:25

Stick with it op. The first two weeks on antidepressants are always bad. Then you start feeling better.
I'm on 50g sertraline and take mine in the morning as it makes me more alert. I can't sleep if I take it at night.
I'd definitely stay with it as your body gets used to them x

PurpleOrchid42 · 13/01/2024 15:37

I actually feel like I'm just not going to take it. My joints feel all tingly, like I'm really on edge. I just want to feel normal again. I'm so spaced out and anxious.

3 days is nothing.
Take it for 2 weeks. Then a weight will lift.

Happyme2024 · 13/01/2024 15:46

Keep going! You're doing brilliantly to get this far. It will change your life. Be strong. Its completely normal. Can you get somebody to sit with you?

ExtremelyJoyous · 13/01/2024 15:50

You need to keep going with it OP, it gets better ❤️

mynameiscalypso · 13/01/2024 15:56

I agree with PP about taking it at night and then you can sleep through the immediate side effects. It very quickly gets better though.

Shf · 13/01/2024 15:57

Sertraline is hard at the start and I get the temptation not to take it but trust us, it really is worth persevering with because in about two weeks you will really tell the difference and feel so much better.

Shf · 13/01/2024 15:57

Also took it at bedtime.

Washinglinewench29 · 13/01/2024 15:58

Definitely take it at night. I took it in the morning the second time I was prescribed and I was feeling faint and having panic attacks constantly the first week.

happypillsareworking · 13/01/2024 16:40

I take it in the morning as it can stop you sleeping. I was like you and feeling sick but I'm now on 100 and mostly I think it's helping.

Hope it helps you

PurpleOrchid42 · 13/01/2024 16:53

I was taking it at 3pm, but I haven't taken today's yet. If I want to switch and start taking it at night, can I just wait til later and take it? I'm still very hesitant, as I was actually feeling worst about an hour before I was due to take it, and starting to feel much better now, like it's wearing off.

The initial side effects are bad OP but they soon go and for me it makes a big difference. Can you try taking half a tablet rather than giving up?

Yes, just wait til later tonight. I pop mine on my nightstand so last thing I do at night. 50mgs is a good dose and you're likely to even out after a few weeks. Stick with it xx

Krustykrabpizza · 13/01/2024 18:47

It will pass, the initial side effects are horrendous and they should tell you this, especially if you have young children on your own. I took mine in the morning as it gave me insomnia. This did pass after the two weeks though

Scutterbug · 13/01/2024 18:48

It gets worse before it gets better unfortunately but worth sticking with it. I am on 200mg and take it in the morning as it stopped me sleeping at night.

mrsbyers · 13/01/2024 18:52

Another that takes it just before bed

happypillsareworking · 13/01/2024 18:58

I wish that they had days of the week like the pill as I always worry that I have/haven't taken it 🤦🏼‍♀️

CCLCECSC · 13/01/2024 19:00

The side effects will ease from experience. Get to grips with the nauseous feeling; are there any foods or drinks which you like which you know will help.

I found crisps and anything mint flavoured helped; not at the same time though!

PurpleOrchid42 · 13/01/2024 19:40

Thank you so much everyone, for your kind words and encouragement. I've now taken the dose for today, moving my taking time to 7.30pm, which suits our routine for getting the kids to bed.

So proud of you!!! It's all normal, just remember that. You're another day nearer.

PurpleOrchid42 · 14/01/2024 08:19

Ugh. I was awake from 3am til 6am this morning. And woke up feeling much the same. My whole body feels kind of tingly/energised, like I've had way too much caffeine! The opposite of the drowsiness I felt yesterday! Please tell me this too shall pass!!

I was so sick when I started Sertraline. I kept with it as my mental health was awful. After about 10 days everything settled down and I’m still on it 2 years later. It has helped me so much. Keep going and take it at night if you are having insomnia. Xxx

MeinKraft · 14/01/2024 08:32

Honestly keep at it. Once it starts to work it's so good, it relieves me of all my totally irrational rage symptoms. The first week of taking it I had loose bowel movements to the point where I had an incident when out for a walk Confused I can laugh about it now Grin

Blessedbethefruitz · 14/01/2024 08:36

I had the nausea, insomnia, dreams and teeth grinding with sertraline too. It all eases and stops over a month. It's great stuff, truly saved me. I have no plans to ever stop taking it.
