What therapy do I need?

I,m finding myself become increasingly anxious. Ive always been a worrier, but this feels different. I constantly feel in a heightened state, and it doenst take much to set off my fight or flight response.
Im increasingly fearful of bad news - whether its teachers meetings, or opening letters from the doctor and Im finding myself avoiding these situations.

What therapy would best help me. I really really want to change my way of thinking. I dont want to just take medication to deal with the symptoms.
Thanks so much.

I think anxiety is contagious rather than genetic.

What I mean is that if you spend a lot of time over a long time with an anxious person it starts to invade your own thinking even if you initially found it ridiculous.

This why I think people sometimes think it's genetic but in reality, you've 'caught it' from being around someone highly anxious.

Think of it this way as an example.
imagine someone is highly anxious about something - anything - missing a train or a plane or going to hospital anything you can think of and it's not something you worry about at all.

If you had to catch two flights every day and every day this person was hugely anxious about getting to the airport on time, feeling sick about missing the plane blah blah blah insisting you get there hours earlier.

If you live with this every day day for 15 years, and say that person died.

I guarantee the first time you catch a flight you are not going to be all relaxed and rock up 5 mins before the check in closes because no matter what your starting point was, you have received this messaging at close quarters for 15 years repeatedly.

Exaggerated example to make the point but I really believe it. Because people who are anxious are so vocal and visibly aggitated in unsettles the environment of everyone around them.
