blushingm · 01/04/2008 14:01

i'm on 40mg can i join in?

OCD and depression - oh lucky me!!!!

sherby · 01/04/2008 15:13

Oh good not the only one then

Side effects are crappola at the moment, this morning was the worst.

blushing I take them for OCD put just for pure O, I don't have the compulsions.

wh, when did you start to feel better do you think?

whateverhappened · 01/04/2008 18:34

a bit better after 2 weeks, and improving slowly but steadily since. my gp said it's usually about 4-6 weeks, but if there's not much improvement after that, then it might need a higher dose. he thinks i'm ok on my current dose (20 mg/day), which is good. he said it's one of the better ones for anxiety, as well as for depression (some of the others are good for depression, but don't work on anxiety, but i would imagine that ocd comes under anxiety). I had what felt like hte caffeine shakes for a few days - could have sworn I'd had about 20 double espressos. Also woke up mega-claustrophobic a few nights, but most of the sideeffects wore off about 2-3 weeks in. Hope you feel a bit better soon sherby!

sherby · 01/04/2008 21:23

I hope I feel better soon too, my guts are churning its horrible

whateverhappened · 01/04/2008 22:34

well, I have a kind of IBS thing going on as well (kicked off before the ADs, so can't blame that) - I did feel a bit sicker for hte first two weeks or so, but it eased off then. I'm just trying to put weight back on now, which is harder than it sounds. I find chewing gum is fabulous for making me feel less sick - I go through lots of it. I also keep a big bag of mixed fruit and nuts in my desk at work, and keep snacking every hour or two to keep my blood sugars up, as I feel worse if I leave it too long without eating. Hope you feel better soon though. In terms of ADs working, I'm trying to compare with how I was a few months ago (no point checking against last week, as improvement is slow but steady) and definitely am feeling more cheerful - a lot more like myself. Anyway, I'll be thinking of you!

catok · 01/04/2008 23:08

Hi! Room for another one? Haven't tried Fluoxetine before; but a variety of other ADs a few years ago. Started on 20mg 10 days ago - not noticed any effect yet. I've suddenly got to a point where DH says I'm being perfectionist about everything, while I think everything is falling down around me. I'm not liking the killer stomach ache on these - thought I was going to pass out this morning; but got myself calm enough to carry on at work - so they must have started working.

ibiza1 · 02/04/2008 08:39

hi i was put on these 20 mg 2 days ago and some sleeping tablets, as i am finding things hard at the minute with daughter waiting on a diagnosis so we can get her in to the sn school she needs.
also have a family member very ill, can anyone advice some people say they do put weight on but any posts here seem to be the oposite that u lose it? which i dont mind.
i have an awful taste in my mouth very dry and sorish throat whether or not that has anything to to with the tabs as it is only a couple of days and doc has said that they take 2-4 wks.

bandgeek · 02/04/2008 09:27

Hello, thought I would finally post on this board. I started on 20mg Fluoxetine yesterday. I have been having a lot on anxiety issues recently, worrying excessively and crying a lot. I have felt like this off and on for quite a while but it has definitely got worse in the past few months.

I';m just hoping they take effect soon and I can start feeling semi-normal again soon (whatever normal is lol)

ibiza1 · 02/04/2008 12:47

bandgeek well we r on the same mg at the same time 2 days i have awful headache developed mind u i do get migraines, i hope they start to work a bit have u got an awful dry mouth /throat?

sherby · 02/04/2008 14:47

Welcome to all the new folks.

Very dry mouth here, I think that is quite common and a slightly sore throat.

Had awful anxiety/panic in the middle of the night so really hope these tables are going to kick in soon

bandgeek, I have really excessive worrying too, it is very wearing isn't it?

saythatagain · 02/04/2008 15:42

Stick with it; all will come clear in about 3 weeks and then you'll wish you'd been on them a long, long time ago. I'm om 40mg by the way and have been for about 8 months. Only just recently I've been thinking about going to 40mg one day and then 20mg the next etc; I'll see how I go but will have no hesitation in returning to them full time if I get a feeling of the downward spiral I was previously in. Good luck.

bandgeek · 02/04/2008 18:06

Ibiza1, I've had quite a dry mouth today, been drinking gallons of water trying cure it! I've felt quite queasy all day as well, and not all that hungry so that's a big change for me.

I'm tired of worrying all the time. DS coughed so much last night he was sick and I worried myself for hours over it. My car's wing mirror was broken this morning and again, I worried for ages thinking someone is out to get me (I know, sounds stupid )I'm sick of crying all the time and feel like I'm such a bearer of doom always thinking the worst.

Here's hoping the pills start to work soon!

ibiza1 · 02/04/2008 20:21

bandgeek, no we all have our own reasons for being on these pills, i find i overreact in silly situations like arguing with other half over the most stupid wee thing and then it spirals and i get angry, its more of a coping mechanism for me at the minute.
i would say i have been low and crying at times for nothing at all, let me know how u get on and vice versa interesting to see what way they react when we r on the same dose same time etc take care x

sherby · 02/04/2008 20:22

bandgeek I can really relate to what you are saying. A few days ago DS had a cough and was sick and I was so worried that he would choke in the night I was panicking so badly.

Hopefully we will be feeling better soon

saythatagain, thanks for your post it has really made me feel better

PersonalClown · 02/04/2008 20:26

I'm still here and still on them!!
I don't think I'll ever be coming off them, maybe a lower dose but ho-hum. If it keeps me on an even keel then I'm all for it.

whateverhappened · 02/04/2008 21:03

well, I keep stressing over things, but then I remind myself that it's just anxiety and that means I will just stress, which does take the edge off and calm me down a bit. Also had a very dry mouth for a few days. I had most of my side-effects in the first two weeks, but did start to feel a bit less flaky from about 2 weeks - hoping that 20mg will be enough for me, but I'll do whatever it takes. i'm coping with the kids and work etc a lot better and taking things a bit more in my stride, whereas a few months ago I would have completely over-reacted to everything. Nice to hear from you all anyway - nice to know there's lots of us out there

Divastrop · 02/04/2008 21:07

ooh i forgot about this thread

i stopped my prozac cold turkey on feb 14th as i decided it wasnt doing anything and just causing me to be constipated and fat.oh how wonderful i felt for the first 2 weeks....then i crashed.i gave it till 4 weeks off them then started them again.at least i know now that they were helping.

bandgeek-love the name

bluefox · 02/04/2008 21:13

Not read all of this so may have already been discussed but has anyone remained on prozac for a long time (years) -sort of like a "maintainance" dosage? - or do you always have to come off - eventually?

sherby · 03/04/2008 07:49

morning all

crappy night again, althought there is a slight ray of positiviity shining through this morning so I am happy for that

Anybody up to anything nice today?

bluefox, I think somebody on this thread is on a maintainance dose cant remember who though

ibiza1 · 03/04/2008 09:51

i cant get rid of this awful taste and sore throat, and headache will it pass soon.

sherby · 03/04/2008 10:43

Drink lots of water. It helps with the taste and the headache. Maybe the sore throat is due to a bug or something?

Hope you feel better soon

ibiza1 · 03/04/2008 11:54

thanks sherby maybe ur rite about the throat thing ta

bandgeek · 03/04/2008 13:41

Hi all

Ibiza1 it will be interesting to see how we both get on. Hopefully we will both start to feel better soon.

My mouth and lips have been really dry, my lips are actually tingling!

It's really reassuring to know I'm not the only one feeling like this. Am now off out to buy some groceries. My favourite thing to do

sherby · 03/04/2008 20:06
