Any help on this would be highly appreciated…

I started dating a guy 4 months ago. Everything is perfect, except for a few things…

At night, and sometimes during the night, he talks to himself, claiming to be talking to ‘the angels, spirits, the police, the government, aliens’ I asked him if he had scitzaphrenia, because he clearly hears things that are not there. He believes in aliens, and that he has an alien family. He said that one day he looked down and he was an alien for a few seconds. It sounds so crazy, and it is such a shame, because he is such a lovely person who I care for so much, but I don't know how to help him. Sometimes he is very moody, and when I ask him what is wrong, he tells me he has tried to help people (meaning the spirits) and he hasn’t been able to do so. Sometimes he goes weeks without doing this, and then sometimes he can’t go hours without. What can I do for him, to help him get better?

We are in a long distance relationship and he speaks a different language, so when he is talking to himself I don’t know what he is saying.

He sometimes smokes cannabis, but not enough to be like this. He smokes CBD sometimes, and I notice he talks more when he is having a cigarette. I know he was abused as a child and I’m wondering if this is something to do with it too

Four months? Far too much hassle for such a new relationship. I'd be running far away, and quickly.

The cannabis will not have helped, and might have caused this.

You're not here to fix him. Focus on yourself.

It's sad that people are telling you to run away. You clearly care about him enough to put this thread up and to want to help him. He probably needs someone right now if his other friends are non existent. I would agree with the advice @Random789 has given around calmness, consistency etc

Thank you, yes I do really care about him. I really appreciate your comments. :)

Schizotypal ?

Could be any disorder where psychosis is a feature.

He sounds similar to somebody I know's younger brother who has drug-induced Schizophrenia (magic mushrooms). He can go a while without any symptoms and the next minute he's being sectioned. There's nothing you can do, sadly.

One thing I will say, and you may not want to hear this, but as you describe him to be, he's not got the capacity to consent to a relationship with anyone. Obviously an existing long term relationship/marriage is different but not a new relationship. He's disillusioned & his mind is altered, even when he seems perfectly lucid and 'normal' he really isn't. It's lovely that you care about him so deeply though.
I would just be there for him as a friend. Personally I wouldn't officially 'end' it, just be his friend and fizzle out the relationship side of things. Just my advice! Best of luck

Poor guy. What a shame that he continues to use drugs and refuses to get help.

I know you want to help him but it's dangerous to think you can other than encouraging him to get professional help.

You only been dating him 4 months and it's a long distance relationship???? I don't understand why you would chose to be in a relationship with him? How did you meet and how do you think the relationship will pan out?
