***Citalopram Buddies... ;o)***

Well.. jumping in on the act of the other "buddy threads", there seem to a shed load of us on citalopram.

How many of us are there exactly?

What dosage are you all on? Is it working?

I'm on 10mg for anxiety. It certainly takes the edge off the panic feelings and stops me waking up with that dreadful, crippling anxious feeling, as if my stomach's in a vice. But being as things are a bit crap at the moment, I do feel generally down even though I've never been technically considered depressed (just suffering from lifestyle induced anxiety!)

DH is on 20mg. Similar reasons, slightly different symptoms.

We have been on it since June.

I came off mine (sensibly) a month of so ago but the horrid panic came back and I just couldn't face all that again. It makes life "un-do-able" and I have a lot of stuff that I have to get done everyday/responsibilities etc. So not sure what the answer is but I certainly don't want to stay on anti depressants forever and GP originally mentioned a 6 month time slot.

What are other's experiences?

PS I hate the "no orgasm" side effect of citalopram!! It really really bothers me.. main reason I wanted to come off it.. but I hate the anxiety more! Anyone else on it suffer in that way?

Hmm

Well I finally went to bed around 12, took ages to drop off and then as soon as I did 3 yr old DS woke up! Settled him, dropped off again and he woke up again! Think I finally managed to get to sleep properly at about 2am! Then of course DS3 woke at 6.15, so I am going to be a little zombiefied today!

I'm feeling a bit flat today and also apprehensive because of this evening..but then I felt like that 2 weeks ago before the last one...I'll be a wreck come 5 o clock and without DH to help with the boys. Ho hum!

Bubblegumcheeks, I didn't realise you were in hospital, that must be hard. I really feel for you, I am a psychiatric nurse (not working atm due to small children/DH always working away) so I understand how distressing it must be to have had to be admitted to hospital. I think you are right to stay until you feel you really will be able to cope properly, you wouldn't want to end up going back in a few weeks. I'm wishing you a speedy recovery x

Everyone else, I hope you are having 'good' days x

Hi Girls

Have been out today, managed with DH's help to visit elderly parents 20 miles away, they are a cause of my stress, Dad has Alzheimers and Myeloma and last week had an operation to remove a lump from his ear. It was lovely to see them, made me feel a bit better.

I have been on my tablets for a week now and GP said to increase dose to 10mg. I am nervous and apprehensive about this, haven't had any improvement yet from tablets, its too early I know, but don't want to feel worse if I increase them.

Can anyone advise?

itsahardknocklife · 01/02/2008 17:47

Well, kk, I've been on 20mg a day for three weeks and a day. About Tues - Weds I started feeling a lot better. Still having some sleep problems but feel so much happier.
And I'm doing things - getting up at a sensible hour, shopping, walking dog and cleaning (well, a little bit of that!) - it's the opposite to when I was on Prozac a few years ago. Prozac turned me into a right mong and I just festered for several months - and put on A LOT of weight.
So in my opinions, stick with it and give it another 2 weeks at least.

chubbymummy · 01/02/2008 18:40

Had a good day to day - although I've been on a course so I didn't have to suffer the evils of work!!!!
kkgirl it took me a good 6 weeks to notice any difference when I started ad's so don't think that they aren't working just because you don't feel any different yet. From your post I assume you are on 5mg, I started out on 10mg and it's only a low dose so I wouldn't worry too much if your doctor advises you to up it but try to stick at the 5 or 10 for at least 6-8 weeks before agreeing to go any higher. Remember the side effects when they are first entering your system are very similar to the symptoms of depression anyway so it may just be your body adjusting (don't worry those side effects don't last long - otherwise the medication would be pointless, ah,ha!)
Good luck and keep us informed.

kkgirl · 01/02/2008 19:25

Thanks girls

For tonight though, would you just take the 5mg or double up to 10mg, I'm confused?

AutumnMists · 01/02/2008 20:29

hi all

kk I would move up to the 10mg today if that is what the doc has advised - the more you take the quicker you should feel better (in my logic anyway!)

Glad you had a good day chubbymummy - courses are always more fun than work

itsa - I was the same on prozac - put on loads of weight which was why I did not want ad's this time until I felt I had no choice. The cit is great - makes me eat much less and I am losing weight slowly

squirdle - lack of sleep is a killer isn't it - ds woke us at 5am and that was it for me; at least i was able to get a couple more hours sleep once they were at school

Twigy glad your hubby is home. I find it harder when i am on my own too - too much time to think and worry!

had a very lazy day today - should have gone for a walk but despite the sun it was cold. DD had me boogying a bit once she got home tho . Actually prefer the weekdays at the moment because i get 'me' time - weekends i have to cater for the kids and family demands Must make the most of it tho as i am back to work in just over a week

itsahardknocklife · 02/02/2008 09:01

AutumnMists · 02/02/2008 09:58

I love it too and we get so little down here

kkgirl · 02/02/2008 13:20

Hi

Where are you to get snow???

Twigy · 02/02/2008 14:49

Hi Girls

Im in west yorks and we got lots of snow. Its all gone now? How come you didnt get any snow?

kkgirl · 02/02/2008 16:40

Im in the West Country and we haven't had any yet, although we did have a frost overnight.

Its been a nice day, quite cold and sunny, we wanted to drive to the seaside at WEston Super Mare, but the boys just wanted to go to the Skate Park instead, so trapped indoors again!!!!

itsahardknocklife · 02/02/2008 17:39

hi all! How is everyone? The snow this morning made me happy but it's gone now

Twigy - last night was great! We must do it again some time. (How's that for getting tongues wagging??!!!)

Twigy · 02/02/2008 17:43

Oh I know Itsa!!! Gosh I made a right plonker of myself, think i was a great source of entertainment for all but in a bad way. Cause i'm worth it!!!!!

Grouchyoscar · 02/02/2008 17:46

Hello, glad this thread is still active

twigy I'm in Batley. It was great snow this morning. that it's gone now.

Spent too long playing out in it with DS and the kids on the yard. I'm truly exhausted now

Off for a sleep, bye bye

itsahardknocklife · 02/02/2008 17:50

You didn't make a plonker of yourself Twigy - everyone thought they did though but we were all too pissed to notice each other!

Twigy · 02/02/2008 18:27

Hi Grouchyoscar

I know, we went to a walk in it this afo and most of it was gone.

I actually live not far from you. I do my big shop in the Tesco in Batley.

Bublegumcheeks big hug from me today, had no idea you were in hospital.

Hope everyone else is ok today

kkgirl · 02/02/2008 19:07

So Twigy and Itsa what were you up to last night!!!! Tell us, it sounds good whatever it was.

Grouchyoscar · 02/02/2008 19:09

Twigy It's a small world isn't it! Batley Tesco's is an entertainig place isn't it

Twigy · 02/02/2008 19:29

Oh kk

We got invited to a soree by a few girls from another thread. I was hysterically nervous, so got launced into the red wine.
I am extremely loud at the best of times, so appeared to be very pissed quite early on!!! . Itsa was helping me to drink the black russians and we were cackling in the corner like nutcases!!!!

Great night though

itsahardknocklife · 02/02/2008 19:43

'twas good!
I do my big shop in Batley Tesco too. Small world, huh?

Twigy · 02/02/2008 19:51

I recon we need to satrt a thread up about it, see how many of us are fans of Tesco Batley.

I hang out there at least twice a week, you usually see me flying up and down the isles with the big guy shouting from the top of his voice!!!

itsahardknocklife · 02/02/2008 19:54

I'm usually wandering slowly around the kids clothing looking at things I don't need and then going really quickly around the boring food bit.
Sometimes we go to the big one in Leeds for a change - their cafe is nicer.

AutumnMists · 02/02/2008 20:18

Twigy / itsa sounds like you had a good night - bad girlies for the booze tho does not go with the meds!

kk I am in Bristol so not too far from you - my mother often takes the dcs to Weston when she has them for a day in the hols; they all love it

Hello grouchyoscar; glad you had a good time playing in the snow

My ds was sick all over the car today but thankfully I got the easier job of cleaning him up (bath and washing machine pronto) and dh did the car. He seems fine now, if a little tired but has kept down toast, ham sandwiches, pear and grapes so fingers crossed it was a one off!

Tired myself despite a lie in but better after a snooze this afternoon

Twigy · 02/02/2008 20:29

Auntie Autumn

We were looking after each other and really didnt drink that much, was actually a cheap night out!!!
