***Citalopram Buddies... ;o)***

Well.. jumping in on the act of the other "buddy threads", there seem to a shed load of us on citalopram.

How many of us are there exactly?

What dosage are you all on? Is it working?

I'm on 10mg for anxiety. It certainly takes the edge off the panic feelings and stops me waking up with that dreadful, crippling anxious feeling, as if my stomach's in a vice. But being as things are a bit crap at the moment, I do feel generally down even though I've never been technically considered depressed (just suffering from lifestyle induced anxiety!)

DH is on 20mg. Similar reasons, slightly different symptoms.

We have been on it since June.

I came off mine (sensibly) a month of so ago but the horrid panic came back and I just couldn't face all that again. It makes life "un-do-able" and I have a lot of stuff that I have to get done everyday/responsibilities etc. So not sure what the answer is but I certainly don't want to stay on anti depressants forever and GP originally mentioned a 6 month time slot.

What are other's experiences?

PS I hate the "no orgasm" side effect of citalopram!! It really really bothers me.. main reason I wanted to come off it.. but I hate the anxiety more! Anyone else on it suffer in that way?

teabreakgirl · 01/04/2008 18:06

HI everyone.
Itsa, I would love a dog but we go away for around seven weeks in the summer so its not really fair according to my partner who doesn't really want one! but I'm sure you can get doggy passports now?
Hey spring, I've tried to come off mine but after the last two days I have had I think I'm going to go back to the Dr. I've just felt like shit. And really impatient and I can't take noise at the moment.

itsahardknocklife · 01/04/2008 18:21

teabreak, get a staffie and I will gladly look after when you go away!

teabreakgirl · 01/04/2008 20:19

He has no more excuses then! I really love weimeraners and golden doodles (?). Anyway excuse the short posts I am so going to have an early night. Ds2 is waking up 2 or 3 times a night still. I'm so knackered. I think that mental health problems really knock it out of you. I miss my old active self. Can you believe that "energy creates energy" used to be my mantra. Ha, that came back and bit me in the arse big time

SpringSunshine · 01/04/2008 20:36

Hi again all

Had a lazyish day today as mother had kids but I had booked holiday anyway in case she could not

Missed pill last night and no headache so better than before. teabreak girl, just take it slowly and see how it goes

Does anyone else find their brain is working overtime at the moment? If I go to bed around 11pm I cannot sleep but my brain is really active thinking about things - having ideas, not going over the day or anything I have deluged my poor boss with about 3 emails a day over the last two weeks all with new ideas / suggestions - in the end he asked me to print them all off on Friday so he could get around to reading them over the weekend

itsa sounds like you had a great walk with doggie, I love getting wet if there is a purpose and i can go home for a warm bath afterwards! Mind you we have had two of the most gorgeous days - warm and sunny

kt shame about your allergy - we have 4 cats that I wouldn't be without (except when they wee on my toaster ) I had prozac last time and put on loads of weight (altho it did workand I was not a zombie) - really why I waited so long this time before getting the pills - doh cit is fab, it really stops my 'binge' chocolate eating

Kitti · 04/04/2008 16:02

yes you can get doggy passports now - get a greyhound. They've had a really bad press at the moment but are the most loving docile animals ever and you can even get cat friendly ones. I have 2 greyhounds and I think it does me good to have to get out of the house and walk them twice a day although after almost 2 months on the citalopram I am still feeling incredibly tired all the time.

ktmoomoo · 04/04/2008 16:05

i would like to say a BIG BIG BIG thankyou to
itsahardknocklife
for drawing my attention to the drug FLUOXETINE
my dh is on them and he did not know they were prozac[we were not told by doctor] it alerted us to some strange and alarming behaviour he has been showing and has now been to the doctors and had medication changed, the doctor was alarmed and worried to his reaction to them .
he now been told not to drive till they are out of his system , if itsahardknockslife had not alerted me to the drug goodness knows wat could have happened,THANKYOU [GRIN]

ktmoomoo · 04/04/2008 16:28

im not sure how dh would be if i hadnt found this thread

itsahardknocklife · 04/04/2008 17:04

kt, I'm glad I helped . I didn't know when I was given them a few years ago that they were prozac until a friend told me. I turned into a complete zombie and couldn't do anything. I thought, at the time, that all antidepressants would do that, and that is was normal. Now I am on Citalopram I know better.

ktmoomoo · 04/04/2008 17:12

thankyou
it great how mums net works x

itsahardknocklife · 04/04/2008 17:14

yes. I just wish I had found it when I was pregnant as I felt very alone at the time. I discovered it when DS was nearly a year old. I've made some fantastic friends through it and sound it to be a great source of support and info, not to mention bargains in the for sale section!

ktmoomoo · 04/04/2008 17:16

Hey Itsa, I lived in Huddersfield unti I was ten (many moons ago!).
Hi to everyone, How are things? I went back to the Dr's today so I'm going back on the cito- tonight!!

Twigy · 04/04/2008 22:43

Evening all, gawd what a day. First a girl from work collasped and got taken to hospital, another called in sick, I felt guilty and stayed an hour behind. Got to spend an hour with LO before his bedtime. Then DH phoned (who has been away all week) and says he is not coming home until next week. I blubed like a mad woman. Oh and I am absoluty knackered and cant spell either!!!!!!!

itsahardknocklife · 04/04/2008 22:53

I only moved up here last summer - I'm a Londonder really. Much prefer it up here and the people are much nicer, just a bit hard to understand at times!

Twigy, what happened at work? What was wrong with her?

If you get lonely feel free to pop over here. I have a fruit loaf!

Twigy · 04/04/2008 23:13

Cant you understand me Itsa?

itsahardknocklife · 05/04/2008 10:45

Yeah I can, but then you're not from round here!
I really struggled with Knickers (oh my god I can't believe I've typed that! Knickers is a person!) to start with but I understand her now, although she still says pardon to me a lot.

ktmoomoo · 06/04/2008 12:46
