Anxiety and Propanolol - I’m feeling nervous.

I’ve had a rough 18 months with my health which has now led to me having a diagnosis of anxiety.

I was prescribed Propanolol last week and I still haven’t mustered up the courage to take my first dose.

I’m anxious to take something that may help my anxiety. It’s nonsensical.

I guess I’m scared of side effects, or maybe I’m scared that it won’t make any difference.

Part of me is scared that I need medication for anxiety just to function normally.

Anyone else been in the same boat?

What made you take the leap and take that first tablet?

I do find the propranolol is helping but fear I now have health anxiety mostly covid related
My dd (20) works on the covid ward at the hospital and was poorly with it in November luckily we never got it but I'm terrified of her bringing it home
I'm really in 2 minds as to weather or not to ask the doc for an AD to see if that helps but I reacted badly to sertraline at the beginning of December which has heightened my anxiety like nothing I've ever known before

Sorry to hear that Llh1979 - I work in a hospital and I do worry about catching Covid. I don’t know much about AD but it can’t hurt to speak to a GP about other options - from posts I have read on this board it sounds like there are many different ones that can be tried Flowers

ThornAmongstRoses How have you been on the propanolol- I have health anxiety and been trying to take this tablet for about 3 months now and I am so scared I build myself up then end up having panic attacks and then being to scared to take it because of the panic and start the cycle over again-
My fear is once it’s in me I can’t get it out and I’m scared my intrusive thoughts will make me end up in a&e or sectioned 🤦‍♀️
How did you calm your thoughts once you took your first dose x

@higgans just to set your mind at ease I take propranolol and have zero side effects.if I have a good day or a few good days I skip them and have no withdrawal.
They simply help reduce the physical symptoms

I've been in them now about 3 years. Can't remember any side effects but take ads too.
I take 80mg a day and am still struggling to leave the house.

I was prescribed 30 of these a few years ago when I had severe anxiety when waking in the middle of the night due to disturbance from a very unwell neighbour. I just had one occasionally and felt no side effects - just relief from anxiety. These arent a psychiatric medicine, they are a beta blocker. They just take away the physical symptoms of anxiety- racing heart etc. They are great. I still have about 10 left - I take one every couple of months if I know im heading into stressful situation. Some people take one before a presentation or a job interviewer. They are nothing to worry about. Go for it. You'll feel relief and everyone deserves that.
