Little brother with autism trying to deal with passp8rt?

My brother has autism and unfortunately threw his old passport in the bin.

He tried to avoid me earlier (phone) and I was slightly puzzled then suddenly realised this might be difficult for him.

I could fill in new passport form for him and post off but he needs to get photo booth done and get them signed.

I'm not sure whether to write out the form myself and post it to him or gently guide him through doing it?

I've realised I don't understand enough about autism and how people might interpret the world.

I felt confused earlier as I gathered up information and told him then he didn't do it.

So just slowly slowly just encourage him to do a bit at a time? There's not much urgency so it can be a few weeks.

I'm worried about taking over and incapacitating him.

Have you ever come onto MH boards before or just hunting me down?

It was a gentle question about how best to assist with passport. And yes I have all my own paperwork done, estate agents admitted they made a mistake which confused me.

So what have you done, and why are you following around hassling me?

If he already had a passport then he shouldn't have to send a new photo (as long as his appearance hasn't changed dramatically), it should be on their system.

Oh that's one of the problems, he's put his old passport in the bin. So I'm trying to think about best way to guide him on the phone. So just fill in page one, put it aside. Then open up next page and I'll give him all the details he needs for parents.

I'm surrounded by passports at the moment.

No, it doesn’t matter if the passport is in the bin. If it’s in date then the passport office will have an electronic copy on their system. That’s what @Pinkywoo was saying.

There’s a section on the form for lost and stolen passports. You can do it online. I would look and, if you don’t need a new photo then just do it for him. And maybe keep hold of it so it doesn’t go in the bin again!

yes you will need a new photo. The application can be done online using a photo taken on a phone though. Im sure I've read this scenario before

all new and replacement passports need a new photo BTW. Maybe PP is thinking of replacing a driving licence as that uses the existing photo from your passport

There are guidelines on the passport website about how to take a photo yourself if he'd be okay with that rather than a photo booth. I ended up taking a load of DH against the blank kitchen wall, trying not to get shadows etc was the trickiest bit.

As others have said, might be worth checking ahead though and seeing if the passport office still have a photo on file they can use.

It wasn't in date. Think he just thought it didn't work anymore and put it in the bin.

I'll try to slowly get him through this but may have to take it a bit slowly. I may have to resist the urge to go off and grab a passport form and do it myself but think it needs to come from him.

But he has chosen to do passport application by paperwork so I'll get him started today. He's not unintelligent but not used to foreign objects. So takes a bit of coaxing.

Although I have to admit i sort of feel like doing the form myself and shoving him into.a photo booth and phoning someone near him to get photos signed. I'm only a sibling.

The form is MUCH simpler online, if you can persuade him to do it that way. It only shows you the questions you need, rather than the paper version where "if you answered yes, go to question 21c, if you answered no, go to page 17, the fill in question 24d" sort of stuff that gets me confused.

Photos can be taken electronically - but probably needs another person. Does he live alone?

Yes he lives alone - actually I could sneak online and do the form but then the photos might be needed and I don't fancy ending up in court vs Home Office

Does he need a passport right now? Sounds like you have a lot on your plate so maybe this could wait a few months?

You've got me think about that now - I have a friend who lives near him? If I phoned him today and asked to take as clear head shot as possible that would suffice?

Then it would be easier I could just fill in online form and get it off.

Does the photo/application need a counter signatory?

Yes it will need someone to confirm their identity if it is a replacement of a lost passport. This can also be done online if it is an online application

It's just that he wants to move so will need photo id.

He's got a beautiful place but if he doesn't want it he doesn't want it.

I've tried to make him see how beautiful it is and show him things but he doesn't like it still.

So just need to get his photo id sorted. He binned his drivers license as well. He's a brilliant driver. Doesn't want to reapply for drivers licence, wants passport. So I'll wait til he's awake and then phone my friend and try to get this done today.

A particular hazard seemed to be your mother throwing knives at you.
A great number of people tried to help you.
You refused their help every step of the way.
You have also sent me a pm accusing me of bullying you.
I am far from being a bully. I just want other people to not waste time trying to help you.
I also think that you were the person who threw your passport away.
