I broke down this morning at work as things came to a head as I cant cope anymore. My Line manager at work was great, let me confide in her and helped arranged a Dr appt for me.
The Dr has told me that I have depression (longstanding), anxiety and anxiety related ibs
I need to take 25mg for a week then 50mg after, need to see him in 2 weeks from now seeing how things are going.

I'm really hoping that these tablets will help me get back to 'me' again.

Sorry you are feeling depressed. Have you been prescribed anti-depressants before?

burstingbug · 23/08/2007 22:47

I was on prozac 4 years ago for several months. Since then I have tried 2 other ad's which either made me soooooooo sleepy and the other made me physically sick

I have 2 boys - 2.6yo and 1yo.

(the 2 other ad's were prescribed this yr for me)

Hopefully you'll tolerate this one better (in terms of side-effects). Did yourGP refer you for any psychological treatments?

burstingbug · 23/08/2007 22:55

no, guess he wants to see how I cope on these ad's.
I read the leaflet saying the starting dose is 75mg. Maybe he doesn't feel like I'm that bad???

OP posts:
notnowbernard · 23/08/2007 22:59

Maybe he wants to take it easy with the dosages if you are sensitive to side-effects?

Do you feel you could talk to him about referring you for some support/counselling/therapy etc to address the causes of your depression, if you feel it would help?

burstingbug · 23/08/2007 23:05

He mentioned talking to the HV and maybe counsilling (sp?)
We do have a pnd group which runs 8 week sessions, but I don't know if I count as pnd due to my history.

Obviously don't know your history, but you've got a 1yr old and have been on ADs twice this last year... I would guess that even if Having A Baby isn't the sole cause of your low mood, it's certainly been a significant factor?

burstingbug · 23/08/2007 23:17

It's part of it, not being able to cope with them. Being really anxious when going out with them (which in turn triggers my anxiety realated ibs)
I was first diagnosed in 2003 after a brake up of a relationship and debt I had got into because of how my relationship was with my ex.

you really have to try differents one to find one that works for you.
DH is on prozac and doing ok on them.
sorry you are feeling so low

burstingbug · 23/08/2007 23:28

I was also prescribed prozac a month or 2 ago, but told to give up bf if I was to take them. Needless to say, they are still sitting in the cupboard untouched.

I do think some support would be really beneficial for you

The HV might know of resources out in the Community that you could access.

burstingbug · 23/08/2007 23:29

My HV is only around ond Mons and Tues. Will try to catch her next week.

onlyjoking9329 · 23/08/2007 23:30

you could do with some support until the AD's start to work.

notnowbernard · 23/08/2007 23:31

Take each day at at a time, and try to look after yourself. Not easy with 2 small kids, I know. Can anyone give you a bit of support over the weekend?

onlyjoking9329 · 23/08/2007 23:32

good advice NNB

burstingbug · 23/08/2007 23:34

DH is off this weekend He works shifts, a stretch of earlies, 1 or 2 days off then a stretch of lates.

onlyjoking9329 · 23/08/2007 23:37

make sure you get a lie in at the weekend and some time for you, it is hard work looking after kids, i have 3.

burstingbug · 23/08/2007 23:39

No chance of a lie in, somewhere between 6.30 and 7 ish if we're lucky.

OP posts:
notnowbernard · 23/08/2007 23:41

Yes, definitely try and get a couple of early nights and lie-ins. Try and look after your basic needs at least, especially if you're struggling to get through the days... let dh take charge of the kids, but do try and get out of the house a bit. And make sure you eat and drink well.

burstingbug · 23/08/2007 23:49

Heading up to bed now, DH has just got in from work, so I'm taking my first pill (just incase there were any funny side affects!)
Thanks for the chat and advise. Will report back tomorrow evening.

notnowbernard · 23/08/2007 23:52

Sleep well.

Hmmm... am crap at early bedtimes too!

harrisey · 24/08/2007 17:17

You can bf on prozac. You can definitely bf on imipramine. The imip is an old antidepressant which has more side effects than the new ones like Prozac.

The most common new one to bf on (and I did 3 times as well as taking it while pregnant) is Sertraline (Lustral).

Imipramine can make you very sleepy - I had to come off it because of that. I couldnt hold dd1 to feed her as I kept dozing off!

Hope you can find something that is right for you and feel better soon. I was depresed for 5 years between pg with dc1 and dc3. Came off my antidepressants 2 years ago now and am doing great. It can be beaten!

burstingbug · 24/08/2007 22:27

Glad to hear you got through Harrisey
Sertraline was one I was on this year, made me sick.
Imip hasn't made me sleepy yet 24 hrs in
I didn't shout at the boys this morning, this evening has been more stressful.
I know its going to take some weeks before the tablets kick in, but so far so good I think
