Have had bad PND and am pulling myself out of it really well, but lately things are starting to get too much again...

My Grandad has bladder cancer and has just had prostate and bladder removed (went well thank God), I've got to start leaving DS in nursery so I'm bricking it about that and the cherry on the cake of it all is work giving me hell about return to work options - have refused them, saying its full time or nothing so have to think about looking for roles in another department that does offer flexible working, which I don't want to do as I like what I do but don't feel as if have any choice and am also appealing their decision so there are lots of e-mails back and forth and an appeal date looming....

Arghhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhh!!!!

Hi NikkiBFG - aren't employers the utter assholes. I decided to stay at home instead of returning to the hell hole of my old job. Your union rep has probably told you all this but just in case...
The Direct gov website is very good and explains quite a bit about maternity rights and returning work. The following is from their returning to work page..

Under the law your employer must seriously consider any application you make, but they don't have to agree if there's a good business reason not to. You have the right to ask for flexible working - not the right to have it.

Can your job be done within part time hours or do you need to be there full time. Can you go part time and the rest is covered by another member of staff. What happened when you went on maternity leave. Did they get temporary cover or did someone else take over?

Big hugs and hope all goes well for you.

Thanks for that...they shared my job out within the team so technically, it could still be shared out on the days I wouldn't be working - I've asked for two days a week...

Am appealing the decision now as I don't feel they have given me a good business reason for declining it so will have to see how that goes....they only advertised my role as job share once the rep suggested it to them so the advert was only around for two weeks max...tbh, the manager dislikes me and doesn't want me there full stop, so I think its all geared towards me not returning to the department at all!
