Seriously ...not smoking is depressing me

I am thoroughly miserable, not craving or anything, just dont feel like me, I am unhappy, distant, just feel really out of sorts as if I am not me.

I know you probably think this is really sad, but its making me wanna have a fag just so as I can feel normal again ....does this make sense??

how long have you been off the fags?
and well done, many people smoke till the grave, youve stopped before that point
And theres nothing like smoking 20 in a day to make you want to be on the other side of the fence BTW.

charliecat · 27/09/2006 21:37

you are mourning your...ha ha friend the fag. Which in fact was your worst enemy.

charliecat · 27/09/2006 21:38

anything here that you recognise ?

charliecat · 27/09/2006 21:40

or here

Beauregard · 27/09/2006 21:41

I agree that it can make you depressed ,when i gave up 16 months ago i was suffering with depression and it only worsened it, but i have battled to stay off them but sometimes wonder if i would be as miserable if i still smoked?

expatinscotland · 27/09/2006 21:42

I find the idea of not smoking forever miserable.

We're dead a long time.

So every now and again, I have a ciggy.

WideWebWitch · 27/09/2006 21:43

mosschops, it does get easier, I promise. I gave up 3 years ago and being free of those black shadows at the back of my mind is great. It's withdrawal pure and simple, it will pass. Keep it up.

Northerner · 27/09/2006 21:43

I'm with expat.

mosschops30 · 27/09/2006 21:43

this is my 2nd day i just miss it soooo much (said in a really moany voice) i want to go out the back and have a nice fag in peace, just to be me

ooh expat I like the sound of that. I have no doubt that when I go out for a drink I will have a pack, because thats something I really enjoy, but am fantasising about going out already

I gave up so I will be here for my kids, not look like and old hag and feel a bit better.

I wish I could just smoke like 2 a day insteaf of 10-15

I remember that feeling mosschops. You are grieving the loss of an old friend and a way of life. Smoking was part of you. It will soon pass though, I promise.

I could never do what you do expat. It's all or nothing for me. Now I would rather drink wee than smoke tobacco.

mosschops30 · 27/09/2006 21:54

I dont think I'll ever get to that stage where I hate smoking or think its disgusting. I gave up for 2 years when pregnant with ds and up until he was over 1, I would still smoke when out and drinking (obviously not when pg).

If you think of yourself in your mind and what you look like, imagine it now, how people see you and how you see yourself. Well in my picture I always have a fag, its just so part of me, oh god I am being pathetic ...shoot me now

and not having your whole day controlled by the dreaded Nicotine Monster( i stopped nearly 3 weeks ago)

WideWebWitch · 27/09/2006 23:02

Honestly, there is hardly a photo of me from 17-35 without a fag. Except when pregnant with ds or when he was newborn. And I was the smokiest smoker, people said I made them WANT to smoke because I looked like I enjoyed it. I didn't, I was addicted. Honestly, if I can give it up so can you. Search on my name and 'smoking' I was so upset at my seeming inability to stop but I did and I'm glad I did. It might have been too late (I was 35), I might still get cancer but I've reduced the likelihood.

I am ok today, have been to the gym this morning, and am going to pilates tonight to give myself something to do.
I am still utterley miserable without my fags though, its weird because I could quite easily nip down the shop and buy a pack but I havent so at least thats some progress, thanks for asking

www will look at your threads for inspiration

dont you still fancy one though? one of my patients told me she gave up 11 years ago and still wanted a fag, honestly dont think I have that much willpower.
Would love to have one now but know after 3 days without it will taste like shit

I stopped nearly 2 years go and dont fancy one now. Under severe stress theres something in my head that says Cor, a fag at the back door would be nice. But theres a louder voice laughing at the the other one saying Not that daft are you?
That missing depressed feeling does go.

WideWebWitch · 28/09/2006 18:50

Mosschops, no, I don't want one. I've had the odd pang over 3 years and then thought 'do I want to go back to that?' and the answer's no, no way.

TheRealCam · 28/09/2006 19:13

mosschops the trick is to think to yourself that you're a non-smoker (and after 3 days without you are). If you're still thinking of yourself as a smoker but not actually smoking you're bound to feel deprived.

Blandmum · 28/09/2006 19:15

Think of all the lovely things that you will do with the thousands of pounds you will save!
