Sorry to hear that pandora.

Is there another type similar to sertraline you could try or are they all a no no for you? Is it just today you're feeling a bit off? I still have some ups and downs even though I think the sertraline are really helping...

I was told I can't take any SSRIs as the bruising was a side effect of SSRIs rather than sertraline specifically. So I'm limited in what I can take really. I don't know, I'm just so busy with work right now I'm sure a lot of it is down to stress.

Nat99 · 15/12/2014 20:45

Ok I'll stick with it and hopefully will help: the other thing is I have broken out in spots!!! Anyone else have this?

Curlygirl1511 · 16/12/2014 18:48

Nat99, I have broken out in spots! Is that part of the sertraline? I had really clear skin and now I have spots!

Nat99 · 16/12/2014 23:33

How long have u been on them curly girl? I have been on them 7 weeks and broke out in loads of spots about 2 weeks ago :( and they won't go

MouseandChops1 · 17/12/2014 21:24

Evening everyone, was wondering if anyone has experience of swapping sertraline to citalopram? Worrying that I've made the wrong decision in changing drugs and even if I wasn't feeling 100% on sertraline the unknown of how I'll react to citalopram scares me. I am feeling more backround anxiety today.

Nat, I too am experiencing spots on my face but oddly more on my head and around my hairline! Never normally prone to spots bar the odd one!

Nat99 · 17/12/2014 22:57

Yes a lot of line are Near hairline mouse!

Curlygirl1511 · 18/12/2014 22:28

Nat99 I've been on setraline for about 4 months. I started getting spots around October mainly on my forehead and temples. I went to the docs and he gave me some acne cream. It's clearing up a bit but very slowly. :(

Nat99 · 19/12/2014 21:33

Hi curly I went to he doc and she also gave me some stuff called zynerit, what did u get?

Curlygirl1511 · 19/12/2014 23:05

I got acnecide 5%. He told me that if it doesn't clear by January I can go back and try something different. I pray to god it disappears!!! I'm 36 not a teenager!!

2ManyPimms · 20/12/2014 09:23

Good morning! I've just been prescribed Setraline by my GP after a horrific bout of depression which lasted 5 weeks (I've had depressive episodes as an adult for as long as I can remember - but nothing as bad as this was). I found this thread and thought - this is just the place for me!!! :-)

I am a bit worried about starting them today - some of the stories of initial side effects are frightening. My annual Christmas party is tonight so as I don't drink, I might start it at bedtime and hope for the best.

In the past I had been on Prozac (useless for me), cylitopram (that's spelt wrong) which gave me hives and turned me into a shell of a woman. I am hoping this will help as I don't know where to go from here!

Thank you in advance for your support and advice!

2ManyPimms · 23/12/2014 07:30

Taking it at night to avoid sleepiness during the day and it's keeping me awake! Beginning to take it in the morning to see if that sorts things out. :-(

sophiejoy · 24/12/2014 09:17

Hi all, sorry to butt in here but I started sertraline 4 days ago (need to take my 5th soon)
I feel absolutely except from the extreme tiredness, sickness, insomnia, night sweats and dizziness. Since I think this is all from the ads, should I stop taking them or push on?
I had a dodgy episode after a bad reaction with some cold and flu tablets, not knowing who I was / if I was real etc. Felt anxious and down with nasty thoughts ever since, ive had cbt in the past and it really worked, can't I go back to that? I hate taking tablets ??

sophiejoy · 24/12/2014 09:19

** absolutely fine
by this I mean that I could go about my day if I didnt have all of these darn side effects!

Pandora37 · 25/12/2014 10:46

I'd keep pushing through sophie, having horrible thoughts isn't unusual when first taking ADs. Obviously if you feel suicidal then let somebody know but I think you need to give it a good 2 weeks to get into your system. I know it's miserable to start with but things should settle down after a few weeks, and if not then go back to your GP. I also can't see any reason why you can't have CBT again and take ADs. I suppose ADs are more helpful in the short term though as CBT normally has a huge waiting list.

How are you finding it now 2manyPimms? A lot of people take sertraline in the morning so hopefully it will work better for you that way.

sophiejoy · 25/12/2014 16:49

I forgot to take my dose yesterday and took it this morning and I felt fine, better almost having not taken it, which is strange. Felt crappy after I took it today, but I guess that's my own fault, do you know if there is any sleeping aids you can get from the dr the insomnia is killing me Angry

Pandora37 · 26/12/2014 17:33

When I was on sertraline, I was given amitriptyline to take with it for sleep. It's another AD but supposed to be very good. I never took it in the end as my sleeping improved. Did you have insomnia before you started taking sertraline?

sophiejoy · 27/12/2014 16:10

I did but only for a little while, its actually starting to get much better! Still feeling quite zoned out though :L

Willfeelbettersoon · 30/12/2014 23:15

Hi all I havnt been on here for a while but have read the threads to catch up.
I've been in my usual pre and post Christmas blur and have had loads of ill health since my last post. Nothing too serious but think I've had all the winter bugs going. (Chest infection flu etc)
I'm on propanalol for anxiety and palpitations at the mo. Weaned off the sertraline as I couldn't tolerate side effects. It's since I came off them that my physical health has been rubbish but my gp doesn't want me to start another Ad at the moment until I'm better. looking forward to feeling physically better and would also like to try another Ad to see if it helps with the anxiety.

kittywake1978 · 31/12/2014 11:30

Hi all,

I have spent the past couple of days reading through pt1 and pt2 and it has been a great distraction and incredibly helpful.
I starting taking sertaline on the 19th dec starting at 25mg for 4 days then 50mg for depression/health anxeity should of sorted help sooner as I had only come off sertaline in march really by going cold turkey as I forgot to get my prescription!! Don't ever do it!!! I think thats why I relapsed :( xx I am really struggling this time round, I am on day 15 and still struggling with side effects. I have zero appetite, feel really sick in the morning, shaky and weak just after taking my it with some tiredness, although I can't sleep!!I do start to pick up as the afternoon goes on and almost feel normally around 6 all be It weak x I sleep ok until 5am and then can't get back to sleep because I'm restless and feeling sick and the cycle starts again!! Really could do with some reassurance as I know this drug works as it has done many times in the past but I don't remind these side effects!! Please help xx

sophiejoy · 31/12/2014 19:18

Just checking in, I hope everyone had a happy Christmas without too much stress.
It's day 11 of 50mg per day and im starting to feel much better! Side effects are much less vicious (still not 100% but much better than before) Unfortunately my grandad passed on last Sunday, I feel quite numb to his death which is strange, I think this might be the meds?
My suicidal thoughts have lessened greatly, thank god.
I was very close to stoping them around the 4/5 day mark, but it definitely gets better if you give it a chance.

sophiejoy · 31/12/2014 19:25

I had the same side effects for thw first week and a half ish, just going away now. The side effects should go away soon, maybe you could ring your gp for a bit of advice/reassurance? That sort of thing helps me, stick with it & good luck!

kittywake1978 · 31/12/2014 20:02

Sophie, sorry to hear about your grandad it's tough when you lose a loved one xx hugs xx

I am drinking plenty and managing yoghurts, milk, smoothies and in the evening a toddler size meal but no where near enough really. I try to eat but just feel sick!! My appetite wasn't exactly great before I started the tablets!!

I'm pleased your side effects are settling down I'm just praying mine do as I'm starting to dread mornings!!

Take care and happy new year

sophiejoy · 02/01/2015 11:55

Hey kitty,
Thanks, its tough but I know I can get through it with the support of my family :)

Its good that you're managing to eat even if it is a little! I couldnt eat much, just getting my appetite back now, small steps of bigger portions but mainly little and often bland food was what I ate, toast and whatnot. I hope you start to feel better soon, good luck for 2015, lets hope its a good one!

Pandora37 · 02/01/2015 15:34

I'm glad you're feeling better sophie.

I've been feeling down again recently but I don't know if it's just the time of year. Mirtazapine has definitely worked in that it's stopped me crying all the time but my day to day mood still feels quite low. I've been on them for nearly 3 months now so don't know if it's worth carrying on with or not.
