No experience but here if you need to chat

D0oinMeCleanin · 22/02/2012 20:17

It sounds like a panic attack to me. Do you have a paper bag or similar you can try and breathe slowly into?

If not deep, slow breaths.

Hattie11 · 22/02/2012 20:17

i'm sorry

don't know what to say, but didn't want to read and ignore.

xx

gothicmama · 22/02/2012 20:18

Breathe in and breathe out for longer

MummyDoIt · 22/02/2012 20:18

Do you have someone with you? Is there anyone you can call to come and sit with you?

Make yourself a cup of tea if you can. If not, just a glass of water. Wrap yourself in a blanket to warm yourself.

Talk to us here. Tell us as much or as little as you want but you are not on your own.

StealthPolarBear · 22/02/2012 20:19

Hope you're OK.
There are options and plans to be made. But they can wait. Nothing is set in stone.

Can you get a neighbour or friend to sit with you til dp gets back?

TwoStepsBack · 22/02/2012 20:29

Yes - sounds like panic/anxiety attack. I have experience of these.

Keep doing the slow breathing.

Don't be afraid - it will pass.

Trickle · 22/02/2012 20:29

If you don't have a paper bag you can just cup your hands over your nose and mouth and breathe through them - I think the idea is to rebalance your oxygen/carbon dioxide so you will feel better physically.

Can you try to distract yourself - I find music can really help me either counteract how I'm feeling or help me work with it, do some vigerous cleaning, start trying to understand exactly what the higgs-boson is - anything to stop your mind sticking on what has casued you to feel this way?

Trickle · 22/02/2012 20:30

Oops the distracting yourself is once you have your breathing back under control - useless if you feel you can't breathe sorry Blush

madmouse · 22/02/2012 20:31

Try to walk up and down a bit - it will get rid of some excess oxygen and actually calm you down. Even better, potter a bit, put some washing away, wash up whatever. Don't sit there feeling anxious. If you thought you'd dealt with it years back it is in the past and it can't hurt you now.

If this is triggered by my thread in _chat (I recognise your nickname) feel free to PM me if you need to chat. Remember it can't hurt you anymore. Breath in for 4 out for 4 - as low in your tummy as you can manage.

faintpinkline · 22/02/2012 20:34

Not triggered by anything on here though partly related to what you said Madmouse.

TwoStepsBack · 22/02/2012 20:55

Don't worry about what his work thinks. You need your dp and that's more important.

faintpinkline · 22/02/2012 20:59

I know it's not a funny turn sweetheart - but that's an easy way to explain it to work x

faintpinkline · 22/02/2012 21:15

Trying a hot drink.

Suddenly got a weird feeling of calm though still shaking feel like Im looking at and hearing everything through huge plastic bowl. Very cold. Everything feels unreal. Even the keys of laptop under my fingers dont feel as if they're there.

Just terrified now. I have no control over this situation except over my reactions to it. Someone is trying to frighten me. I know who they are. I'm not giving in to their supreme nastiness

So calm its terrifying

hellymelly · 22/02/2012 21:21

oh faintpink,is there not someone you can call who can talk you through this? Or a friend who would pop round? Do you have any rescue remedy in the house? If not try and make a sweet warm drink and sip it slowly. You will feel calmer soon and not so sick.Panic isn't sustainable for long so if you just try and watch your breathing and stick with it the feelings will subside and you will feel less shakey. I hope your DH is with you soon.

minceorotherwise · 22/02/2012 21:27

Faint, you really need to talk to someone in RL, either on the phone or get someone around to sit with you.
Nothing is insurmountable, everything can, and will be fine even if it seems a shock now, that's all the worst of it is- shock.
Once you have had time to digest and think rationally it really won't seem so huge. But you need other people to help reduce it's power and talk you down a bit. What time will DP be back. Can you talk to him while he travels (train? Hands free)
You need to talk through what is happening and how you are feeling.
