And I'm scared. I feel like they're coming to get me. Can hear mumble voices like people talking on a radio. It's like they're walking round my house. I'm sure they can't be real because people keep telling me that they're not So why do I keep hearing them?

one thing that helped me was getting to know COPD sufferers. man, that put me off cigs in about two seconds flat!

my panic attacks were always characterised by a feeling of not being able to breathe fully, though, which is pretty much what they are.

expatinscotland · 22/02/2011 00:59

v. good! glad he's talking to them!

blinks · 22/02/2011 01:00

occasionally i get that pre-anxiety attack feeling and i find singing show tunes is the best distraction. i sing it into submission.

COPD is a truly horrible thing to have, i take it the tips are to relieve shortness of breath?

hahaha expat- everyone on the course was probably thinking the same thing about each other 'thank fuck i'm not a loon like her...'

expatinscotland · 22/02/2011 01:02

yes, it's to relieve shortness of breath, which of course causes the terrible anxiety that goes with COPD.

lol. competitive looniness! only one MN at 1AM (where are my fellow insomniacs?).

blinks · 22/02/2011 01:02

my panic attacks started like that, hyperventilating etc then took a weirdy existential angst-y turn when i became convinced i was in some alternative universe and was about to collapse and wake up elsewhere... think that may have prompted the medical intervention

blinks · 22/02/2011 01:03

i now like to think i'm just finely tuned, like a racehorse. positive spin.

missjulie · 22/02/2011 01:04

(I'm an insomniac too) Just keeping an eye on the thread, to see how MM is doing...........

blinks · 22/02/2011 01:04

i love a bit of a loon off.

MogadoredMemoo · 22/02/2011 01:04

When I was in hospital there was a lady who would spend every night pacing up and down the ward shouting " I am not a schizophrenic I am psychic! That's when I had my thank god I'm not as ill as her moment

OP posts:
expatinscotland · 22/02/2011 01:04

mine always started with a feeling of being trapped, highly inconvenient in places like buses or when trying to drive a car.

missjulie · 22/02/2011 01:05

Howz DH getting on with doc MM?

blinks · 22/02/2011 01:05

maybe she WAS psychic!

how you feeling now MM?

do you get them anymore expat?

expatinscotland · 22/02/2011 01:06

my mother had a dear friend who was terribly bi-polar, unfortunately she died of liver failure in her early 60s (the drugs she used to take ruined her liver) but she'd have episodes that were truly frightening Sad.

expatinscotland · 22/02/2011 01:06

i do still get them, blinks, just not as often. something will usually trigger it off. mostly commonly, getting a blocked up nose or sinuses.

blinks · 22/02/2011 01:07

ah, hence the breathing tips...

expatinscotland · 22/02/2011 01:08

i have to tranq BIG TIME when i get a blocked nose or sinus attack because then i get panic attacks just sitting or standing or whatever.

MogadoredMemoo · 22/02/2011 01:09
