I am getting back into fasting again and fancied a bit of support. I do a fair bit of 16:8 but after indulgent holidays I do a few 24 hour ones to reset me again i.e from dinner one night to dinner the next.
I'm doing one from dinner tonight so anyone else fancy joining in. Everything is easier with a buddy.

@Thundertoastit sounds like you are doing all the right things in terms of balance. My weight loss has been super slow but I am happy because I haven’t felt like I am dieting and I don’t let it rule my life. I feel like I will just eat like this now so if I steadily lose weight down to my healthy range, I will be happy. What do you want to achieve more than what you are doing currently?

I think I would just like to speed it up a bit, at the moment im losing about 0.5 a week realistically... summer socialising has had an impacted ofc. Im only losing to make my existing wardrobe comfortable again, as I gained some weight after my partner moved in and things got very tight! Ive just been at it a while now (3 months) and have around 8lb to go still. I find it quite easy to maintain once im there (this recent gain was a conscious 'taking my eye off the ball' decision!) So id like to be back there before the weather cools down enough for me to back in my jeans!

Hello! I followed this thread when it was @QuinoafromKewmessages to no one, but herself, I’m assuming you are a women OP? Anyway, followed, a couple of more people popped by to say hi, and here I am a while later, where many more have joined. I’ve never fasted, but have thought about it, as I have put an extra ‘menopause’ layer on, I don’t own scales, so can’t to the weighing bit, but I’ve decided that today I’ll have a cup of black coffee and hold out till around 2pm for my lunch, I last ate last night at around 10pm !! , do these timings sound right? As I say, I’ve never fasted and don’t really know too much about it.

QuinoafromKew · 18/08/2026 09:26

Don't rush things @Thundertoast. If you take your time it makes it more sustainable long term. However if you want to give it a boost do one 24 hour fast and see how it works for you. I recommend a 7pm-7pm or thereabouts.
Go for it @Tabasco007 - that is a 16 hour fasting window and a lot of people on this thread do 16:8 consistently and it works really well for them.
Yes I agree 17,000 steps isn't bad @Headinthecloudsfeetontheground but relative to my 48,000 at the weekend it's not so much. I do a lot more 15/17,000 days than 48,000 as its a big time commitment walking that far.
Anyway another fast day here today but just 20 hours after yesterday's efforts.

@Thundertoastit sounds like you are losing at a similar rate to me. The way I would speed things up is to avoid starchy carbs at dinner. So instead of pasta, I would roast some veg. Skip potatoes and have some steamed veg instead of rice. I actually find this a really nice way to eat and would do it more except it’s quicker to just cook one meal and I have two very slim girls in the house and I am very conscious not to make a fuss about things like this and be signalling ways to lose weight.

You do what works for you, though I find the window 11am -7 for eating and 7pm -11am fasting easiest to stick to. Well done!

Haha, I’m really hungry LOL, would normally have had an egg on toast by now…. Glad I joined this group/thread, it will definitely help me 👍🏻

QuinoafromKew · 18/08/2026 22:01

Did you hold out until 2pm @Tabasco007? Well done if so.
How was everyone else's day?
I had a very inactive day by my usual standards but will make up for it tomorrow.

Yes I did, had a scrabbled egg, pumpkin seeds and small salad, pasta for dinner and I’m just having a glass of wine, my downfall. Planning on eating around 2 tomorrow too! Oh, I had a coffee in the morning but didn’t have milk…. T’was ok, I’ll hopefully get used to it.

BarbarianBabs · 18/08/2026 22:18

It really is all in the planning isn’t it? Yesterday started out well but due to a snap decision to trial a martial arts class in my lunch break, I then didn’t eat enough food afterwards, and then went into work and made my way through crisps and cereal bars as that was all that was in the office (on industrial estate so not easy to nip out for something)!

what makes it super annoying was I managed the planned fast from the night before, then had scrambled eggs and mushrooms at 11:00, martial arts class at 12:30. My 13:30 lunch was left over chillie, but didn’t have any leftover rice to make it more filling.

i recognise now that for me I probably was needing some sort of carb. I wasn’t even enjoying the junk I was eating but I think was craving a carb after the class.

lesson learnt!

well done everyone else. Really inspiring!

BoilingHotand50something · 19/08/2026 06:54

I did well yesterday. Broke my fast around 1.30pm with my usual yoghurt and fruit / seeds. Snacked on nuts and an apple. Had a small amount of rice with dinner. Will fast as usual today. Planning a big clean today so that should burn some calories. How is everyone feeling today?

BoilingHotand50something · 19/08/2026 06:58

@BarbarianBabsit really is in the planning! We went out for the day last week and I hadn’t thought it through. I broke my fast before we went so super early, then I had a meal deal for lunch. When I got home I had my usual snacks and then dinner! So a whole extra meal of carbs and then I just kept going. I could have easily held out on my usual fast and taken a healthy option with me.

Headinthecloudsfeetontheground · 19/08/2026 07:32

All well here, but I am so fed up with eggs for breakfast. I'm a vegetarian of many decades standing and have occasionally been vegan (can't keep that up because of cheese!). I've always been a tad squeamish about eating eggs and have reached the stage where my morning boiled egg is giving me the ick.

Any other suggestions for high protein please, or what to do with an egg so that it doesn't seem like an egg? I like tofu but it just doesn't seem like breakfast food!

QuinoafromKew · 19/08/2026 10:05

Well done @Tabasco007 - I cannot judge you for the wine 😋
All about the planning @BarbarianBabs DH wants to do his sport tonight - too outing to mention 😏- so we'll eat separately and I have already planned out exactly what I'm having otherwise two peanut butter and cheese sandwiches on seeded bread with a packet of crisps might call me as an easy option.
Spanish omelette made the night before maybe @Headinthecloudsfeetontheground Lots of chance to include tasty veg and very sustaining ( a slice is my mid-hike go to snack)
I'm feeling good today - just a 0.5lb budge on the scales so far this week but I'm positive.

I'm eating out with a friend tonight so even though my 16 hour fast should end at 11am, I'm going to stretch it to 2pm so I can eat until 10pm. I'll have a light lunch and then try and choose something healthy when I'm out for dinner!

QuinoafromKew · 19/08/2026 12:45

Good planning @OnlyGreenClothes. It makes me feel in control of everything when I plan it out. I'm feeling quite peckish so am having a giant cup of black tea in the hope it will take the edge off.

Hahah the outing sport made me giggle

OnlyGreenClothes · 19/08/2026 15:53

Ah, only managed until 1pm in the end but still 18 hour fast!

Tabasco007 · Yesterday 11:57

Hi everyone, just dropping a message in to say that I’m still doing this 👍🏻 I’m last eating around 10pm, (I know that’s late) and then waiting till 2 - 3ish, having just one cup of black coffee. Feeling a bit peckish at the moment, so might have another coffee, do people do this every day, or just a few days a week?

Headinthecloudsfeetontheground · Yesterday 12:22

I aim for 16:8 five days a week, with flexibility as my work situation sometimes requires me to eat when I’d rather not.

BoilingHotand50something · Yesterday 20:41

I do every day unless we have plans that make it tricky or we fancy having a brunch as a family at the weekend.

QuinoafromKew · Yesterday 20:46

I go through stages @Tabasco007 i.e. I might do 5 days one week and only 3 days the following week. I try and do a 20 or 24 hour fast once every 2 weeks or so.

Headinthecloudsfeetontheground · Yesterday 21:15

I went into snacking mode this evening (craving something salty) and have to eat tomorrow evening (work-related) so will try fasting through to 12.15 tomorrow to get the 16 hours in. Will just have to avoid breathing on anyone!
