5-week fasting countdown to September

Peae · 29/07/2023 16:21

Starting on Monday 31 July I'm going to do a five-week accountability thread. Five weeks will get us to Monday 4 September and the start of term. I would be very grateful for company along the way.

Requirements
Every Monday, check-in with:
A measurement from the scales or tape measure.
Your fasting schedule e.g. 16:8 or 5:2 or OMAD.
Progress to date during the challenge, e.g. 1.5lb lost or number of plant-based foods eaten etc.

In between Mondays we can offer support and companionship. Even if I'm the only committing, I'd appreciate some encouragement if you happen to click on the thread.

(This is inspired by the successful thread by @waistchallenge, www.mumsnet.com/talk/weight_loss_chat/4835460-5-week-intermittent-fasting-challenge?page=1).

Hi all, sounds like everyone is making good progress. I would normally weigh in today, but I am away from home. Will weigh in tomorrow instead x

Peae · 28/08/2023 11:04

Well done everyone!

what are your thoughts for the next thread on the Monday morning check-in? I thought it’d help with weekend accountability, but I’m wondering if a Friday would work better in terms of motivation?

Either is good for me, I usually weight every day anyway.

Fouramclub · 28/08/2023 18:49

Well done everyone no matter what has happened! It's great to see everyone checking in.

week 4 check in

Start weight 75kg
weight today 74.6kg

total lost 0.4kg

not a massive loss since the start but that's due to me over eating in my eating window. I weighed myself on Friday and weighed 73.6kg but I've since had about 3 meals out and been snacking loads.

overall, I have more energy than before and feel less foggy so I think I'll stick to this way of eating (although I do really miss my morning croissant and coffee!)

GoingToBeLessRubbishAtLife · 29/08/2023 00:42

Crashed and burned.

Total fasting days in August - zero.

Total weight loss in August - 1kg.

Are you starting the next on Friday 1st? Can you tag me in please? And call me rude names if I don’t lose weight? Thank you ☺️.

Bumblebeebum23 · 29/08/2023 08:28

Okay so this morning I weigh 14st 3.5lbs so 1.5lbs loss this week.

Total loss since June 19th: 1 stone 5.5lbs

Loss since this thread 5.5lbs

Next mini target is to reach a stone and a half

And this is why these threads are good - if you can do it there’s no reason why I can’t do it too!

Hi all, missed the weigh in due to the Bank Hol so checking in today:

End of Week 4 weigh in:

Starting weight: 75kg
Current weight: 72.9kg
Lost total: 2.5kg

After a gain last week I'm pleased to be back on track with a loss this week. I started IF in May so have now completed 3.5m and lost 7kg total.

I was hoping to be closer to 70 at the end of August but it's been a summer full of weddings and hen dos so I'm actually ok with not having made as much progress as I wanted.

I'm now mainly doing 18/6 rather than 16/8 and although I have been keeping my portion sizes controlled, I've also relaxed a little on sweet treats, so I don't know whether to step it up for September and be a bit stricter again. I do like that mostly this doesn't feel restrictive and I don't get disheartened so don't want to go too far and make myself sad by restricting. Will be interested to see if anyone else does take a different approach through Sep and if it helps!

Bumblebeebum23 · 29/08/2023 10:24

@GoingToBeLessRubbishAtLife don't be hard on yourself....I for one have certainly been there! Weight has yoyoed my whole life and have definitely had many crash and burn moments. You've got this 💪here's to a fresh start 😌 xxx

Thisisthedawningoftheageofaquarius · 29/08/2023 20:57

I didn’t join the august IF thread as I was on hols but if there is a sept one starting I’d love to join (have holiday weight to lose - yay 😢🙄😂) and

Nugg · 30/08/2023 16:31

@Peae I agree with your sentiment on weight loss. I am still battling covid symptoms, not sleeping, coughing, aching and feeling rancid! I was pretty good last week but this week forget it, havent even weighed in.

GoingToBeLessRubbishAtLife · 02/09/2023 22:10

Is there an October thread anywhere or are you continuing with this one?

HarpQuartet · 03/09/2023 06:44

I was just coming on to ask the same - don't want to start a new thread if there's already one, or if people are happy to carry on here.

Peae · 03/09/2023 07:11

Tomorrow will be our final weigh-ins. I thought we'd continue with this one for a few more days for final reflections and then I was planning on starting a fresh one for October.

What does everyone want to see in the next countdown? I'm thinking of a Friday weigh-in and four weeks.

Fab, thank you @Peae really appreciate this - weirdly without the accountability (thinking there was no weigh-in coming up) I have been going back to some terrible eating habits. Fridays and four weeks is good for me.

KrazyboutKillian · 03/09/2023 07:50

Morning all !
wow you lot are early birds

I’d like to join , I was already planning this for sept when I spotted this thread

so Fri 1 sept 1313 , yesterday 1312 lb
I am hoping for 2 lb a week to get ready for a dec holiday

Yes please- Friday weigh ins work best for me x

Peae · 03/09/2023 09:20

Phew! I'm glad Friday check-in is looking ok. (I was thinking though, people could do any day they choose and just report it on the next Friday).

FINAL CHECK-INS

A measurement Xst 5lb
Fasting schedule I've been doing anywhere from 16 to 19 hour fasts daily.
Progress Well, throughout the five weeks I've been up and down but ultimately I'm weighing in exactly where I started. What I have learned over these five weeks is that I scupper my weight-loss efforts with packets of biscuits and I need to address that in the next challenge. (Takeaways have pretty much disappeared - which is great for my wallet too).

Final weigh in. Pretty happy with 6lbs. Especially I have been off on summer holidays. All back to work/school properly today, so need to keep motivated despite the inevitable additional stress and tiredness! Well done, everyone 👏

Start Weight (June) 15st 9lbs

Thread start weight: 14st 9lbs

Current weight : 14st 3lbs

MegBusset · 04/09/2023 08:12

Week 5 - final weigh in
Starting weight: 10st 3lb
Current weight: 9st 8.4lb
Lost this week: 1.4lb
Total lost: 8.6lb

Feeling so much better than a month ago and was able to wear a pair of size 10 shorts yesterday that I’ve not fit in all summer!

Next target is 9st 4lb which I’m hoping to get to in the next thread - I expect the loss to slow down but hopefully that’s doable.

LucyWardrobe · 04/09/2023 08:26

Week 5 final check in:

Starting weight: 11st 7
Week 1 weight: 11st 3
Week 2 weight: 11st 1.5
Week 3 weight: 10st 13.5
Week 4 weight: 10st 13
Week 5 weight: 10st 12
Lost this week: 1 lb
Total lost: 9lb

I'm really happy with that and up for continuing!

Peae · 04/09/2023 18:08

Congratulations all the above! I feel disappointed not to be sharing such successes too. Maybe I can make next month, without an unexpected job loss, better?

Hi everyone, I've maintained for the second week in a row. I really need to step things up and make changes in September. If I could be content to stop eating when I've had enough, that would be tops.

Can I ask a question about sleep? I've read lots of people saying fasting has improved their sleep but for me it's been the opposite. I've consistently woken up at 3 or 4 in the morning and am awake for ages. Last night I tried an experiment- I had a bowl of natural yogurt at 11pm just before I went to bed and I slept through all night. But obviously this kind of messes up my fast! Anyone else experienced poor sleep? Or read anything about this?
