5-week fasting countdown to September

Peae · 29/07/2023 16:21

Starting on Monday 31 July I'm going to do a five-week accountability thread. Five weeks will get us to Monday 4 September and the start of term. I would be very grateful for company along the way.

Requirements
Every Monday, check-in with:
A measurement from the scales or tape measure.
Your fasting schedule e.g. 16:8 or 5:2 or OMAD.
Progress to date during the challenge, e.g. 1.5lb lost or number of plant-based foods eaten etc.

In between Mondays we can offer support and companionship. Even if I'm the only committing, I'd appreciate some encouragement if you happen to click on the thread.

(This is inspired by the successful thread by @waistchallenge, www.mumsnet.com/talk/weight_loss_chat/4835460-5-week-intermittent-fasting-challenge?page=1).

Hi all, I started intermittent fasting (16:8) on 16th June, and I am 1 stone down 😊 would like to be healthier and more confident before I turn 40 next year.

Stats for this thread:

5"3 - 16:8 IF and tracking on MFP

Current weight: 14st 9lbs

Overall target weight: 10st (hopefully before Aug 24 for my sister's wedding!)

Mumwithbaggage · 31/07/2023 08:48

No measurement I'm afraid - I'm working on clothes fitting. I'm far too embarrassed to weigh myself.

I'm doing 16:8 - bit of a challenge the other day when we broke down on the M25 and I didn't get the chance to eat anything till after 6pm! I know evenings are my danger zone so I aim not to eat till after 2pm then my window spreads into the evening. Snacking (savoury stuff) and wine are my downfalls and I'm trying to keep my carbs lowish. Had planned on lots of walking (hoping weight loss will help my possible sciatica) but I'm not a fan of the drizzle so hope it cheers up soon!

@rachelohrachel I hate that thing where I get on a plane and hope beyond hope that my seatbelt will do up. Have sworn not to fly again until my stomach is smaller. I'm 5ft10 so already feel like an uncomfortable giant on a plane.

Mumwithbaggage · 31/07/2023 08:53

@Bumblebeebum23 wow that's fantastic!

ab0416 · 31/07/2023 08:58

First check-in ☺️
*
Measurement:* Xst 7lb (also want to get down into the next stone as my initial goal and then I'll update as I go - baby steps!)
Fasting schedule: 5:2. Today is my first fasting day, so only 500 calories - hoping it's not too horrendous and I don't get hangry as the day progresses 😂

Good luck everyone 🙃

Manicpixidreamgirl · 31/07/2023 10:41

Measurement: xxx.4kg

Fasting schedule: This week will be 36:12 and next week OMAD as I am on holiday

Progress: to date - 3.5kg

PavlovaQueeny · 31/07/2023 11:39

I'd like to join you all please. I'm off on a cruise on 31/8 and want to lose so that I can fit into my nice clothes.
I have been doing 16/8 for 6 months and successfully lost about a stone, however I have an active social life which always involves meals, meaning I've stalled totally! Probably because although I'm fasting, I'm eating too much in my eating window.
I'm menopausal which isn't helping.
Weight today 81kg/12st 9lbs
Waist 36 inches
16/8 intermittent fasting
Aim to get to 77lb/12st 3lbs

GoingToBeLessRubbishAtLife · 31/07/2023 12:22

MEASUREMENT 100kg (220lbs/15 stone 10lbs). I can’t find my tape measure but I’m going to measure waist and widest part of hips.

FASTING SCHEDULE I’m going for two fasting days per week. I am a bit ‘all or nothing’ so I find restriction really difficult and abstinence a lot easier. So this week I might do Wednesday and Saturday. I will change these days according to my schedule each week. I’m also vegetarian so I guess every day is plant based? Or is plant based vegan?

PROGRESS TO DATE This is day one.

LittleMachine · 31/07/2023 12:34

Hi, I'm in!
I'm on 16:8 as much as possible for the next month.

I weighed in this morning at 10 stone 12, heaviest I've been when not pregnant. Aiming to keep my eating times from noon until 8pm.

I haven't eaten yet, just black coffee and water. I hate coffee but I needed a boost before the gym.
I want at least 12lb off before September.

Just about to have a salad of some sort and having salmon with vegetables for dinner.

Imissivillage · 31/07/2023 17:52

measurement 16 stone 3lb, will edit with waist & hips tomorrow morning when I find tape measure.

Fasting schedule: eating window between 1pm and 9pm, allowing cups of tea in fasting time.

Progress: Today is day 1, easing into it. Just going to make more sensible choices, if I get too restrictive/healthy to start with I'll give up.

rachelohrachel · 31/07/2023 20:21

Hi everyone! Nice to have a busy, supportive thread.

I had my OMAD (veg lasagne with leaves then some expensive reduced raspberries) at around 6pm so my eating window is now CLOSED. I'll have a cup of tea before bed. I have massively failed on water drinking today, I'll try and do better tomorrow.

A good day one!

Peae · 31/07/2023 20:43

I was hoping for a 4-hour eating window but ended up with 8. Never mind, still on plan, and I only had a small amount of UPF and went out for a long walk to make up for an otherwise sedentary day.

I'm in! Half a stone down so far with fasting 16:8!

Cookiedough123 · 31/07/2023 23:15

I’m in too..

I started last Wednesday and as of yesterday I was 1.8lbs down. I’m doing 16:8 although most nights have finished eating by 7. I’ve found it surprisingly easy so far. Can already feel the benefit of not binging on rubbish as I have a bit more energy! Aiming for 3x gym classes a week and 10000 steps a day although averaging probably 8000!

someone mentioned keeping track I recommend an app called happy scale it breaks your goal weight into smaller targets! I also am a bit of a geek for data and I like the graphs etc and seeing where it predicts I will be in x weeks time. The more you log the more accurate it is so I weigh myself every day but only log the lowest weight. It’s interesting to see your weight fluctuate at different times of the month.

Peae · 01/08/2023 17:20

Got off to a bad start (broke my fast with a chocolate bar) but managed to pull it around with lots of vegetables and a 6-hour window. Will stay strong tonight because I'm not feeling particularly hungry.

How's everyone else doing?

Found the tape measure. I’ve measured, although I’ve been eating and drinking but from now on I’ll measure before breakfast, when I weigh myself.

violetcuriosity · 01/08/2023 20:03

Hi all, coming over from the previous 5 week challenge thread. Currently 9lbs down since the end of June.

Going on holiday next week so will start on the 14.8.23 x

HarpQuartet · 01/08/2023 22:04

Hello everyone and thank you @Peae I've come over from the other thread and yesterday (Monday) I was 83.6kg.

By 04 September I would like to be 79.9kg or less: I think it'll be a real boost to be under 80kg.

I'm doing 16:8 and sometimes my fasting period is longer.

Sometimes I stress eat, and I'll consider it a success if I don't keep on eating when I'm already feeling uncomfortably full.

MerryPenopause · 01/08/2023 22:27

Thanks @Peae for new thread!

Starting weight 72.9kg @ end June
last weigh in 70.5kg
todays weigh in 69kg
Total loss to date 3.9kg

goal - hit 67kg by end August but have 1 week holiday mid August which won’t help…
IF schedule 18:6 (weekdays) / 16:8 (weekends)

and aiming to walk 10k steps daily

reabies · 02/08/2023 11:09

Hi all, also jumping over from the previous thread!

I've been IF since mid-May and I'm down 5.2kg. I'm finding it hard to stay on-plan over the summer as we have had weddings, weekends away etc, and more in the pipeline 😫I had lost over 6.5kg but piled some back on in July. Anyway hoping to see some more progress before September even if it's slow.

Starting weight today: 75kg
Fasting schedule: 18/6 (usually eating 1.30-7.30pm)
Progress to date: 0kg (day 1 today)

I always struggle with a Monday weigh in because the weekends are hard, but let's see how we go. I'm annoyed today as we had dinner later last night due to train strikes delaying everything so I can't break fast until 2.15pm, which feels a long way away still! Good luck everyone!

Nugg · 02/08/2023 13:15

Can I join please? Brand new to fasting and on day 3!

Starting weight 15 st 0 lb
I am following: 16:8
Progress: 0kg but found my pattern over the last 3 days of around 1200-2000. I DO have a cup of strong tea with a sweetener and a tiny dash of milk at 0800ish but if that impedes I will consider stopping it!

Want to lose approx 3 stone overall.

Thanks for this, will be nice to do it with a "team"!

LucyWardrobe · 02/08/2023 13:28

Please can I join too?

I started on Monday doing 18/6 this week but will change it up to 16/8 next week as am on holiday.

Starting weight was 11.7 and I'd like to get down to 9.7 but breaking it down into small steps so my first goal is to get under 11.

I'm using the Fastic app and hitting the button to start my fast straight after dinner is working well to stop evening picking!

Peae · 02/08/2023 16:39

I’ve just started using the Fastic app too. It’s motivating me, but a bit confusing as it measures fasts different to me.

I've just got back from holiday and feel decidedly blobby! Can I join in from next week/now?
