Extended fasting, anyone?

I like to fast for 48-72 hours most weeks. Works well for me and then I minimise carbs the rest of the time (weekends not so much).

I'm almost at the end of my longest ever fast of 156hours (14 to go) and I've lost about 10lb. Based on my last long fast, I expect 3-4lb of that to go back on once I have refed but half a stone or so should be in the bin!

Curious if there's anyone else on here who's a faster?

I'm curious, can you still exercise when in the midst of one of these long fasts?
I cannot imagine being able to.
nb I am of normal/low body weight

I have super high energy during a longer fast, but don’t train during them because I don’t want to lose any muscle.

Thank you for this great post that has inspired me to do a 5 day fast and I feel great. I broke the fast last night. Don’t have a lot to lose but definitely something I will 100% do again.

Hi all

I'm getting really into fasting now. Am currently on course for my 1st 5 day fast. Really love how it makes me feel.

Wanted to ask, how much water weight do you typically gain back once you start eating?
I'm trying to figure out what's true weight loss and what's water weight. My numbers are a bit all over the place at the moment

Well done Girl, I hope your 5 day fast has gone well.

I didn't track my weight loss / water gain very closely to be honest, but I think after a longer fast (more than a week) you can expect to regain a quarter to a third of your weight back as water - at least that's what I've understood from reading and research.

Girlintheframe · 02/09/2022 16:25

Thanks for that.

5 day fast didn't go as planned, ended it in the am rather than evening as I felt really dizzy.
It's good practice though as would like to do a 7 day one in January.

Jumpking · 07/09/2022 21:03

I'm currently finishing day 4 of not eating. Didn't intend to fast, just not feeling hungry at the moment. I might eat tomorrow, I might not.

I regularly fast 2 separate days a week, so this doesn't feel that different.

I've not read up about the health benefits of extended fasting, but I will be now. I'm feeling inspired by this thread!

Seeingadistance · 20/10/2022 09:34

I have found that OMAD suits me, and am trying my first extended fast. Am currently at 33 hours and will break it soon as I had already arranged, and paid for, a lunch out with a group I’m part of. If it weren’t for the lunch date, I could see myself fasting longer.

Aiming to do a 48 fast next.

Feeling good!

CourtneeLuv · 24/10/2022 20:00

I started at 12am last night, aiming for dinner time on Friday. My app puts it at 116 hours. My longest fast so far is 84 hours.

EmmaH2022 · 25/10/2022 13:47

I couldn't contemplate a longer period but someone said 36 hours. How do you manage that? Don't you get dizzy running errands?

my parents have done this for religious reasons and I cannot fathom it. They thought no big deal. My father struggled the last time - as in, moaned - but he was approaching 80 and had a range of health issues.

EmmaH2022 · 25/10/2022 13:48

also, are people managing 40 hours etc on water only?

I have water, tea or stock cubes.

Stock cubes - does that mean Bovril would be allowed?

Paythosebitchesnomind269 · 25/10/2022 18:48

I follow A Healthy Alternative on YouTube and started the 100 pounds in 90 days - did two lots of 14 day fasts and lost 35 pounds. Unfortunately I then got covid 🙄

Yes, bovril, marmite, oxo, boullion. I have Maggi cubes.

Did you work or were you able to stay at home lying on the sofa? How was that energywise?

Seeingadistance · 25/10/2022 19:39

I broke a 42 hour fast at tea-time today. I felt fine while fasting - have my usual black coffee when I wake up, then water or weak tea to keep me hydrated.

Looking after two small children, don't get me wrong it was tough but easier after about three days. Weight loss was fast which was super motivating. I suffer with being an all or nothing person so I actually managed to succeed at this

Wow, I couldn't imagine looking after kids on an extended fast 👏

I'm coming up to 45 hours and feel fine so far.

Gwdihooooo · 27/11/2022 08:57

Hi, can I ask what goods people have to break their fast… and the quantities?

Gwdihooooo · 27/11/2022 08:57

Foods

Paythosebitchesnomind269 · 27/11/2022 12:07

Fruit, listen to your body and stop when you feel full.

Thank you. Yeah, I was thinking banana might be a good choice

CourtneeLuv · 27/11/2022 15:59

I'd choose non carby fruit and veg to avoid a sharp spike.

Gwdihooooo · 27/11/2022 18:49

Thanks
