Extended fasting, anyone?

I like to fast for 48-72 hours most weeks. Works well for me and then I minimise carbs the rest of the time (weekends not so much).

I'm almost at the end of my longest ever fast of 156hours (14 to go) and I've lost about 10lb. Based on my last long fast, I expect 3-4lb of that to go back on once I have refed but half a stone or so should be in the bin!

Curious if there's anyone else on here who's a faster?

Popping onto your thread as I like to do 16:8 as a lifestyle these days and, having read through the comments, it seems like a very supportive place.
I have never wanted to eat in the morning so it is very easy for me and just deciding the kitchen is closed at 8pm means I then dont think about food again. It has to be said that during the 16 hours I do drink as much tea with milk as I need.
Every so often, like today, I do a 20:4 to keep my weight gradually going in the right direction.

toastandmarmaladeandtea · 27/04/2023 07:49

Good luck everyone
Enjoy your fasting or feasting today

toastandmarmaladeandtea · 27/04/2023 19:38

How are you doing koala
I confess I'm tempted to eat and I'd really like to see if I can extend until tomorrow

Koalascling · 27/04/2023 19:57

Hi Toast
I'm good thanks but after an appalling sleep I knew today wouldn't work as a fast day - ended up with unintended OMAD again 🙈as I had catered for everyone else for a day out last night when I had expected to actually sleep....

Period has started so that should mean better sleep & better fasts ahead 😎

How are you getting on? I find there is a difference between the "my body doesn't like fasting today" feeling & the I CBA/want cake feeling. Can you work out which? You can always fast another day if this isn't your day

toastandmarmaladeandtea · 27/04/2023 20:06

You did really well to do OMAD
That's still IF and you're obviously tuning into your body
I really fancied some dinner because it looked delicious and I'm a bit - meh- about tomorrow's "menu" but I don't feel physically in need of the food iyswim so I'm going to sleep on it and see if the peckishness abates or builds
I
Definitely want to use OMAD most days, just trying out the longer fasts periodically and see how it feels

toastandmarmaladeandtea · 27/04/2023 20:08

Do you use an app? I'm loving the life fasting app

Koalascling · 27/04/2023 20:19

Can you portion yourself some of tonight's dinner & have it tomorrow? (delay don't deny type plan)

I have to admit I feed the family food I don't want/don't eat on the nights I don't plan to eat - I find lunch easier to opt out of, maybe because it's pretty much the same options all the time.

Oddly I don't want to OMAD as it generally doesn't suit me - I can switch into it & find it very easy but I don't lose any weight after about 4 weeks as my body adjusts to it as calorie restriction.

The best app I've found for me is FastHabit but I'm not actually using it just now just marking meals eaten or not in a notebook - retro 😂

toastandmarmaladeandtea · 27/04/2023 21:05

That's really interesting koala and I'll look at that app
Yes. Good point, I'm definitely going to have tonight's dinner for my dinner tomorrow

toastandmarmaladeandtea · 28/04/2023 18:00

Breaking a 46.75hour fast with moules and salad

Koalascling · 28/04/2023 18:07

Well done Toast! Bet it tastes fantastic

toastandmarmaladeandtea · 28/04/2023 18:09

It really does
I'm tired now though and that was a starter 🤣

My long fast started 3 hours ago, don't plan to eat until Tuesday dinner. It feels like a good way to undo the weekend start the week!

How is everyone? What are your plans for this week?

RachelGreensHair · 30/04/2023 22:42

My plans are to eat and enjoy life.

toastandmarmaladeandtea · 01/05/2023 09:05

Hi Koalascling
I had planned to fast (OMAD) yesterday but I carelessly bought a d ate breakfast around 10am, nothing again until around 8 but that was a bit snacky
I would have felt better had I fasted for most of the day so that was poor planning. I've also just eaten breakfast and I'm looking forward to fasting tomorrow for the mental clarity and to claw back some time
Good luck with your fasting- always feels so good

Bubbles254 · 06/05/2023 12:06

Do people that do the longer fasts 24+ hours do any exercise on their fast days?

OnceAgainWithFeeling · 06/05/2023 12:46

I weight train. Tend not to do full body on fast days.

Koalascling · 12/05/2023 00:16

Hi Toast
I lost this thread amid a migraine last week 🙃
Anyway this week I did a 48 Sunday dinner - Tuesday dinner & I'm doing 48 just now until Saturday dinner.
The hardest bit always seems to be 4pm on the first day despite it not being a meal time - I'm sure there's a circadian rhythm reason for it but I can't remember what it is...

How are you getting on? It's very easy to eat out of habit & mess up a fasting plan - for me it's making something for the kids & tasting it/testing it then my stomach wakes up🙄

Hi Bubbles
I just continue as normal when I fast BUT I'm not the marathon type 🤣 2hr walk/some rowing machine/some weights is my kind of level! I really like doing some long cardio if possible in the first 24 hours of a fast as I feel like it moves me forward in The fast more quickly w.r.t. glycogen depletion.

What works for you?

Was126orbustandmaybebust · 13/05/2023 10:10

I go on a longish walk on my fast days as I find I have a burst on energy in the evening but I'm not a hardcore faster like you guys - the most I frequently do is a 20:4 but I am considering more which is why I joined the thread.
Good for you @RachelGreensHair - my plans are also to eat and enjoy life while feeling good and fitting into all my favourite clothes - some 20 years old.

toastandmarmaladeandtea · 14/05/2023 15:31

Hi
I've been OMAD ing which I enjoy but planning a slightly longer one next week
Well done
Sorry about your migraine

toastandmarmaladeandtea · 16/05/2023 10:35

I had wanted a longer fast (48 hours or so) this week but I don't think I'll manage that. I reckon it's hormonal and I'm not going to push it

toastandmarmaladeandtea · 18/05/2023 08:20

Now completed 39 hours of a 49 hour fast and feeling great.
I do love the thought of the health benefits of autophagy

Not sure if anyone is still around on this thread or not, but posting for my own motivation. Almost 24 hours into my extended fast. I’ve done plenty of IF, smaller fasts, and a 7 day fast before, all successfully. This time I’m aiming for 14-21 days but I will go with how I feel. Day one of my period also, so hormonally I am in the right place for this. :)

I’ve managed a couple of 36 hour fasts, but that was last year sometime. Am getting back into OMAD and switching between lunch and evening meal so some fasts will be that bit longer.

Hope all goes well with your long fast!

I like an occasional longer fast
48-72 hours feels really good and energising
Enjoy
