Anyone else starting afresh in the coming days? I've dabbled in 16/8 in the past but then got a tummy bug and didn't restart.

I'm now the biggest I've been in 10 years and am keen to start taking some action to make me feel healthier and to lose some weight. 👋🏻

Aside from 16/8, I'm going to be reducing my carb intake (although still eating some) and ensuring I eat more fruit and vegetables.

Hello to any others who may be keen to join. I'll be weighing weekly on a Monday and using the Zero app to track my fasts.

@Whoateallthechocolate Yes it's the long nights that are probably the hardest for not being absolutely ravenous!

I really need to get my head into the eating whilst I'm not fasting. I've no clue how little or much I need to eat to lose weight with it. Currently aiming around 1500/1600 or so on the basis that as I'm BF I don't want to restrict too badly but often find myself way over like 2000 😩

user159 · 23/03/2021 08:03

Newbie here but been lurking for a while. I've been doing 16:8 for the last 2 weeks and am 4 pounds down. I expect it to slow down but it's good motivation if nothing else.

I have tea with skimmed milk - Max 2 cups in the morning before breaking fast around 11/12. I'm assuming I might need to change this later once my body decides to plateau but I'll carry on for now.

Finding it surprisingly easy compared to traditional diet. App with timer helps, feels like an achievement every day and I feel I am making better choices (generally!) when I do eat. I haven't been too strict though and have the odd cake, chocolate but all within the window and I've noticed my portions are smaller as it's such a short space of time to eat I don't want a massive evening meal if I've had a snack in the PM. That's a big change for me. Also booking meetings for the morning help - can't snack on zoom!!

Really enjoyed reading everyone's stories.

ladybranstonpickle · 23/03/2021 09:19

@Mum5net that's an incredible loss in 3 weeks, well done! Sounds like you have your plate more than full right now. Try to take care of yourself too. I would just gently say that while the sugar feels good when you eat it, the question is it really giving you strength? Do you have any help with the dogs? Sounds really tough.

welcome @user159! Which app are you using? I originally started with Zero and then moved to Fastic (it's very gamefied which I thought was fun) but now i'm thinking about going back to Zero because then I have it showing on my Apple Watch...

Stopped by Sainsbury's this morning and picked up a delicious looking baguette for lunch....can't wait to have it with some brie and cranberry sauce at lunch! Trying a new recipe tonight from the New York Times, Sheet Pan Chicken & Potatoes with Feta, Lemon and Dill so will report back on it to you all.

Sunshine1606 · 23/03/2021 13:28

Afternoon,

I weighed again this morning and the scales are moving in the right direction hurrah! I'm feeling more and more confident that I can make fasting a way of life for me.

@ladybranstonpickle I did a yoga session last night but it was a before bed type one which I don't think work me as much. I genuinely feel like a good stretch out feels as good as a massage on my back sometimes! Your sheet pan dinner looks delicious. Definitely let us know how it turns out. I love a good sheet pan dinner.

@galaxygirl24 I was also worrying about the amount of calories I should eat, especially because I didn't want it to affect my supply so I aim for at least 1500-1600 like you said a day. Evening snacking is also my downfall so I find pressing fast on my app helps keep me on track and it's definitely got a lot easier.

@user159 I think my favourite part about this way of eating is eating cake and still losing weight and feeling good about it!

Have a good day everyone, looks like the sun's coming out here. Daffodil

LlamaofDrama · 23/03/2021 20:53

Hi everyone, it's so good to read all the updates and how you're all making it work.

I've not lost any more, so I'm sitting at just under 3lbs loss and I've just started week 4. I'm happy with that (theoretically, obviously I'm actually really impatient and I want it all gone now). Hopefully there's a loss just around the corner. I'd love to get 1lb more off before Easter as that would put me below a half stone point. I'm walking more, so hopefully encouraging the process a bit.

ladybranstonpickle · 24/03/2021 09:12

Llama - good to hear from you!

I'm doing my usual check in. Nothing exciting to report today. My sheet pan dinner was a big hit with the husband and me. We decided that the recipe would work with capers as a replacement for the feta, if you wanted to skip the dairy. iserved with simple steamed green beans. Tonight I've succumbed to social media pressure and will be making the viral hit Baked Feta and Cherry Tomato Pasta...I'll let you know if it's worth the hype.

I skipped yoga last night, just wasn't feeling it. I think I need to have the structure of the calendar, as otherwise I just noodle around looking for a 'short' practice. Hoping my local yoga studio will reopen for outdoor classes in April...I had bought a 5 class pack two days before the January lockdown Hmm, which was annoying.

SoUmmYeah · 24/03/2021 15:02

I'm late to the party, but can I join? I've been doing 16:8 (or 17:7) for just over a month, and have lost 11lbs. I never really understood when people said the fat "melted away" before but honestly, it really is!

Ladybranstonpickle that baked feta pasta sounds lovely, let me know how it goes! I'm still bimbling on at the same weight (2 weeks since a loss) so I think I'll give it another week and then have to calorie count for a few days to see whether I'm sabotaging by eating way more in my eating hours than I think I am. It's entirely possible...

I hate calorie counting because I cook almost everything from scratch and it's a nuisance to have to work out everything on the way in, weigh the final dish, weigh my portion and pro rata total calories. Is it any wonder I don't do it for long?? Every time I try, I think I'll just resort to ready made for the convenience but that feels rather silly.

MonkeyPuddle · 28/03/2021 23:29

Hello everyone.
Can I join in? I’ve started fasting again, I’ve done it before with success and then two babies, PND, life in general got in the way and decades of bad habits with emotional eating rose up and I’m back being a big chunker.

I’ve done 5 16:8’s this past week, I’ve weighed myself at the start and will weigh myself a month after doing clean fasts every day. I’ve got PCOS and have been overweight for a long while so ive chosen to just have black tea/coffee and water in my fasting period in order to try and drive down my insulin levels, it’s worked well for me previously.

I’m also trying to practice mindful eating and tapping back into my sense of hunger, I know I enjoy my food more if I approach a meal with a moderate level of hunger, it’s much more satisfying.

Anyway, I’m waffling, I’ve read through the thread and you seem a lovely supportive bunch, so hello from me!

ladybranstonpickle · 29/03/2021 09:48

@LlamaofDrama we ended up making a NYT version, rather than Instagram one - it was nice! I do love a tray bake dinner, it's so easy.

Welcome @MonkeyPuddle. It's bit quiet on the thread at the moment, so the more the merrier!
Sounds like you've got a good plan in place. I am also considering 'delaying' some of my sweet treats, I'm in the habit of having a piece or two of chocolate after lunch with peppermint tea, and last week was eating a carrot muffin every day that my sister had made for me - they've all been eaten now so hopefully less tempting!

Just put some jackets in the oven for lunch, will make some tzatziki with full fat greek yoghurt to put on top.

Other than that not much to report. Been trying to find new jeans and its proving really frustrating - ~I've tried Asos, Next, H&M, and now just ordered two really cheap pairs from Dorothy Perkins. These are intended to be interim jeans, as I plan to buy Levi's once I'm at my 'goal' size...

PeacheyPeach · 29/03/2021 10:28

Little non scale victory over here. Tried some clothes on the other day that I've not been able to get into for a year and they fit!!! Still got a bit to go before I feel properly comfortable but am really pleased with how this way of eating really works. I

LlamaofDrama · 29/03/2021 10:52

@PeacheyPeach that's great, it's so satisfying when that happens. Woohoo, well done you! For me, even though the weight isn't dropping off the way I'd like, my IBS is better than it's been in nearly 20 years, so it's worth it for that. But I'd like the weight loss too please!

ladybranstonpickle · 31/03/2021 08:30

Morning all, looks like we are thin on the ground at the moment. I hope everyone is enjoying lots of hot cross buns and Easter eggs in their window!

I'm trucking along with my fasts, it's measurement day tomorrow so hopefully will see some progress. I never measured my arms which I am regretting now as I think there's significant muscle definition compared to when I started in January.

Back on the yoga too after a few days where I just wasn't feeling it.

We've got two garden parties to look forward to this weekend, I'm really hoping someone notices my weightless - so far only my darling 92 year old grandfather-in-law has said anything! He said my face was looking a lot slimmer...so I'll take it!

Another jacket potato for lunch today, probably with tuna although we have a lot of fancy cheeses left over - can I put brie on a jacket potato? And for dinner we have Jamie Oliver's Killer Kedgeree - it's one of our favourites!

@PeacheyPeach that's great re the clothes! and @LlamaofDrama that's very good re your IBS. My SIL suffers from colitis so I know how debilitating it can be.

Have a good day in the sunshine all!

Sunshine1606 · 01/04/2021 14:12

Hey guys,

Hope you're all well and enjoying the sunshine!

So I've been feeling really rough recently. Possibly hayfever? I've been coughing though so I went and got a test which was negative thankfully. Whilst I've been feeling ill I've stopped counting calories and just eating what I want but sticking to 18:6 during the week and 16:8 at the weekend. To my surprise I've continued to lose!

@ladybranstonpickle I've been buying jeans from newlook as good interim jeans. I bought a pair of wide legs there to replace my trusted skinnies and I'm in love!

Yay for everyone's non scale victories! I'm going to make the most of the sunshine now and sit in the garden as we are predicted for snow next week. Daffodil

PeacheyPeach · 01/04/2021 15:10

Sunshine has been fantastic hasn't it given us all a real boost..I'm having a non fast day tomorrow as my mum is coming for Lunch ( support bubble) im not going to be eating crazy but I'm just going to be eating earlier in the day than usual for me ( usually eat from 3pm) feeling a little nervous about it which is ridiculous I know but I have are like this since January 1st so am in a real routine!!

LlamaofDrama · 03/04/2021 16:09

Hi everyone, checking in to say happy Easter!

I had a win today, was heading out to meet people for a walk which meant my eating window would open while I was out. I was worried about having no energy (and then eating ALL the snacks once I could eat) so I thought I'd just have a day off.

And then I didn't. I fasted until I was due to eat, I had a small amount of snack, and it was fine. It's a win.

Scales are really trying hard to give me a loss now. Each morning they wobble on a lower weight before settling where I've been for about 4 weeks, so maybe, in a day or so, they'll manage it!

maddenlightfoot · 05/04/2021 08:58

Hello! Can I join here please? I've had great success with fasting and calorie counting in the past but I'm not very good at maintaining sensibly in between!!

I'm a teacher and have started the holidays with a big overindulgence of chocolate, wine and roast potatoes. I had vague plans in my head and that next term is 6 weeks, how much could I lose in 6 weeks and the this morning thought sod it - I can start losing a bit during the holidays to give myself a head start.

I'm weighing in today at 10st3lbs and would like to lose a stone over the next 8 weeks.

maddenlightfoot · 05/04/2021 19:13

Had an early dinner tonight and an evening of no wine or chocolate to look forward to 🥺!

Ohmyzebra · 05/04/2021 20:18

Can I join?
I lost a stone last year with 18:6. Then it was Christmas and I haven’t really got back on the wagon and it’s all pilled back on. I have about 3 .5 to lose.
Feeling fed up and ashamed of myself today. I really need to stop as I’m feeling unhealthy and low in energy. I was recently diagnosed with anaemia, so I’m hoping that getting my iron levels up will stop me reaching for chocolate energy boosts all the time.
Our house is bursting with the kids Easter chocolate. I need to get on it now, or i’ll scoff the lot!
I did 17 hours yesterday. Going to work up to 18 and start focusing more on what I eat in my window once I’ve adjusted.
I’m back in work 4 days a week from now on. Hoping that will give me a good boost as I find it much easier not to eat when I’m there.
Hope everyone’s had a lovely Easter 🐣

LlamaofDrama · 06/04/2021 10:00

Happy after Easter, everyone! I don't feel I've been here long enough to welcome the new arrivals, so just hello @Ohmyzebra and @maddenlightfoot!

How is everyone feeling after Easter indulgence?

I finally got the loss I've been waiting for, although after what? 3?4? weeks (I've lost count) I'd hoped for more than a measly 0.5lb. But it's gone, and now it's going to stay gone. I'm more convinced now though that this is fixing the IBS, and that is going to make life so much nicer, so it's a non scales victory for sure.

maddenlightfoot · 07/04/2021 09:18

Thanks for the welcome! I've managed a couple of long-ish fasts since Monday (18/19hrs) plus no sweet treats and lots of water. Have lost 2lbs which is great! but also know it's the easy initial water-loss.

I'm not much of a fruit eater (prefer veg and salad or just don't snack) but yesterday ate some watermelon and raspberries after lunch as I'd made a fruit salad for the kids. I felt much hungrier in my eating window than I had the day before and I'm presuming it was the sugar in the fruit. Will avoid fruit today.

Ohmyzebra · 07/04/2021 21:13

Thanks for the welcome!
First few days back on have been ok. Managed 17 hours fasts without a struggle. Slight headache as I’ve been so used to eating loads of chocolate. I know it will go if I push on through.
Loving the lighter evenings as I’ve been able to do a few long dog walks.
I often find fruit doesn’t make a good snack for me as it just makes me hungry @maddenlightfoot

shreddergodo · 09/04/2021 08:44

Hey everyone!
I've just moved over from FAST800 to a less restrictive, low carb way of eating with 16:8. I just can't hack the calorie counting and macro counting and the logging every day it was driving me crazy with pretty limited results.

About me;
I'm in my 30s, orthopaedic's nurse in a city hospital. I worked a few shifts a week. I live with my husband, DC and dog in a large city.

SW: 80 kg
CW: 64.2 kg
GW1: 61kg
UGW: 59kg

So I essentially watched what I eat within 8 hour window, try to eat low carb and add protein where I can. Sometimes I treat myself especially when out with friends. I run/workout maybe 3-4 a week and walk the dog and obviously work is quite active as I lift elderly/sick people and walk constantly. :)

TheGirlWithGlassFeet · 09/04/2021 20:33

Could I join please? Just started today. DH is also doing it so we can keep each other motivated. I've got 3 stone to lose.

I'm using the Fast800 recipe book and it's brilliant. Meal planned for the week using it. Today we've had smoked salmon omelette for lunch and halloumi ratatouille for dinner. Was so so tasty. Just had an apple with a teaspoon of peanut butter too as I was really hungry.
