16:8 any success?

iddybiddymum · 15/11/2018 22:17

I've been doing 16:8 Monday - Friday for 2.5 weeks now . I pretty much eat what I like between 12-8 ( not in excess and mostly healthy).

I didn't weigh myself but do feel clothes fit slightly better and feel
A little less tired.

Does anyone have any success stories at all? Would love to hear!

@notevenamum1 yes, I felt awful for the first few days and then much better. I felt dizzy too, which is think was my cold turkey approach to sugar and caffeine. Hope you’re feeling better soon!

HighlandPeach · 25/07/2020 10:58

Morning everyone - glad it’s the weekend. It’s easier to remember to eat in the window when I’m not distracted with work. I’m back to 2 meals, rather than 3, which I think is more manageable. It’s still 800cal a day, but pleased there’s less cooking lol.

Just did my weigh in and I’m 12st 1lbs (down from 13st 10lbs at the start of lockdown and 13st 4lbs when I started Fast800 just over a month ago). Still a long way till I’m back to pre-baby weight.

Happy Saturday x

notevenamum1 · 25/07/2020 11:17

I am not strictly doing low carbs but I don’t have any carbs until dinner time so maybe that’s contributing. I think the no coffee till lunch is really hard for me too. I’ve tried drinking it black but it’s disgusting. Sounds like I need to keep persevering!

VanGoghsDog · 25/07/2020 18:18

I don't drink fruit tea anyway, but it sounds odd! I mean, it doesn't have calories in, well, maybe one, but so does black or green tea!

mbt81 · 25/07/2020 19:42

Hi everyone I started the 16 hour fast last Monday as well as my calorie counting, as I find I go over cals if I eat breakfast so changed to 2 meals a day and a fibre one before the cut of!

Iv lost 3 LBS since Monday. Does that sound right? Tbh i expected to have lost more as iv been at my cals if not under every day... but not done any exercise except walking!

Chocolatron · 25/07/2020 21:08

@VanGoghsDog

Why can't you have fruit tea?
Something to do with insulin release despite there being no calories or sugar/sweetener in it. The body thinks it's having something tasty so it releases insulin to deal with it, insulin prohibits the release of fat from fat cells so the body doesn't burn fat effectively. Same goes for chewing gum, zero cal soft drinks etc. (Or so says the author of a fasting book I'm not sure has been mentioned already). I'm 3 weeks into 16:8 and so far have "only" lost 1kg but I feel amazing. I don't have to take heartburn medication at night anymore which is something I've been taking for 5 years since my first pregnancy. And I don't have to think so much about food which feels almost like a relief
VanGoghsDog · 26/07/2020 09:57

I know this is true of calorie free drinks and sweets, but I'm not sure they are right about fruit teas - they don't taste sweet.

Not that I'm bothered, I don't like them, nor any fizzy drinks, nor any sugar free sweets! But I am aware of the insulin problem with them.

Good news for you on heartburn!

I also like not thinking about food as much, sticking to a set menu and routine makes life a lot easier.

MsMiaWallace · 26/07/2020 12:51

Has anyone used this to lose baby weight?
I'm really considering this.

PC20 · 28/07/2020 10:09

Hello everyone and welcome to all the new posters since I went on hols.
Spent a week not on 16:8 on hols & eating breakfast as well as lunch & dinner (& most days snacks as well). Quite active (cycling) & not much alcohol.
So - deep breath yesterday when I weighed myself! Really pleased not to have gained more than 2lb. So - in reality I have only lost 1.5 lb since I started 16:8 about 5 weeks ago.
Yesterday I was back on track. Just had green tea & black coffee in the morning. My eating window was 1pm-7pm. Only 1 small snack during the afternoon.
Today I have lost 1lb. V pleased. I feel better too and was surprised that I did not crave sweet stuff much. I thought it would be more of a struggle to go back to not snacking. Went shopping and bought sensibly.
What I did find was a horrid headache - which I read that others have had at the start. I'm going to make sure I drink plenty today.
All the best to you all.

notevenamum1 · 28/07/2020 10:37

@PC20 only gaining 2lbs on holiday is amazing!!! Well done. I always find that weight that you recently put on comes off fairly easily. It’s the stuff that’s been lingering for years that doesn’t shift Grin I say you’ll have it off in no time!

ScarletPower · 28/07/2020 17:00

HOORAY! Finally done it and lost my first stone which has taken 34 days - just to recap, I'm doing 16:8, high fat/low carb (less than 50g carbs per day) and not counting calories. I admit when I heard Dr Jason Fung say not to count calories I was very dubious but it seems to be working. I'm eating to satiety, good nutriitional food with plenty of natural fats and coming in anywhere between 1600 and 2200 per day (I only know this because I'm tracking carbs on MFP).

I haven't lost much visible weight, no one has asked me if I've lost weight and I haven't dropped any dress sizes yet (although my clothes are fitting better).

I'm so pleased that the constant liver pressure I used to feel has now gone completely so my fatty liver looks like it could be on the mend.

I had my BP taken yesterday - I can't remember the top figures but three months ago the bottom figures had been 103. Two weeks later after a 40 minute daily walk every day it went down to 95, and yesterday it was down to 92. This is still high and should be below 90, but I persuaded the nurse to give me another three months before making me see a doctor about it.

notevenamum1 · 28/07/2020 23:20

I was so hungry last night I kept waking up 😔 spent the whole cat exhausted and got into bed tonight and my belly was growling. Couldn’t face another bad nights sleep so got up and made myself 2 boiled eggs. Now I feel bad for breaking my fast Blush will this ever get easier? I really need to NOT give up this time. It’s only been a week and 2 days.

PC20 · 29/07/2020 09:32

Oh @notevenamum1 you did the right thing by snacking on protein. Hope you slept better last night. You will be more able to stick to your plan if you are not tired. If you can be busy today it takes the focus off food. Drink plenty & plan your meals.
Some people on this thread are doing 800 or 500 cal days - but I just can't sustain that. Nor am I counting calories.
I am an emotional eater and will bake when stressed. (I have loved lockdown baking) but am really aiming for 2 good meals in my 8 hour window without snacking in order to get back in the zone after my v v carby holiday

VanGoghsDog · 29/07/2020 12:10

Try a banana as the last thing at the end of your eating window, they help you sleep and are fairly filling.

I find not eating am easier, have my last meal eight or nine pm, then I'm not hungry at bed time. I can ignore food until about one pm quite easily.

notevenamum1 · 29/07/2020 12:46

@VanGoghsDog I find that fruit can make me hungrier! Maybe it’s the spike in blood sugar. But I am the same as you in terms of preferring my eating window to be 1-9. My issue the last couple of days is that I have been very hungry and wanted my dinner around 6.30. I think I need to have a snack around 5pm and then wait till 8 to have dinner

VanGoghsDog · 29/07/2020 13:01

Yes, eat an extra meal. I find some nuts and dried fruit at "tea time" works well, maybe a hot chocolate.

I agree fruit makes you hungry but bananas are usually OK I think?

ScarletPower · 29/07/2020 14:55

@Noteven@notevenamum1

It is natural fats that stop you getting hungry, so you need to be adding more fats to your meal.

Which plan are you doing? I could do 800 cals on a low carb diet but I couldn't stick to 800 calories of food that included carbs.

notevenamum1 · 29/07/2020 15:08

@VanGoghsDog I will try a banana next time - I feel like 100 cals is a lot though and would rather eat something more delicious Wink

@ScarletPower I have done keto before (not with IF) and I swear it has put me off for life. Couldn’t look at another chicken breast. I am just IF 16:8 and logging my cals. My daily calorie allowance is 1500 but I’ve been having 1200 and then more at the weekend (about 2000) which averages my week out to 1500. It’s been less than 2 weeks but it has worked well so far minus the true hungry nights

ScarletPower · 30/07/2020 18:32

Afternoon all

Had a planned break in the diet yesterday for my wedding anniversary.

Had a normal meal at lunchtime but in the evening I made salt and pepper chicken, and bought 2 portions of salt and pepper chips between 4 of us (so I had half a portion, about 180g).

Then we had a planned dessert and I had a Kinder Bueno waffle and gelato.

NOM NOM NOM it was all so worth it!!

Guess how much water weight I gained???

3.5lbs!!!!!!

Back on it today though but hope to lose that 3.5lbs soon!! I've kept today as low carb as I can (13g).

PC20 · 30/07/2020 20:14

@ScarletPower - congratulations on your wedding anniversary. So sensible to have a planned break from your 'good eating' (I won't call it a diet!). Amazing how much apparent weight gain! I'm sure it will drop again in a day or 2.

awishes · 02/08/2020 10:39

Can I join? I have a good 2 stone to lose, half a stone due to lockdown. I have good blood pressure readings but niggling pains in knees and fat everywhere! Particularly belly fat. I hate it. I lost this amount during divorce, it fell off, but has crept up on me and I'm back to where I was 6 years ago.
I have been doing this for 3 days and have noticed a strange benefit, the pulsatile tinnitus I am waiting to have investigated has hugely reduced! Maybe coincidence but I don't think so. I am really hungry when I wake and love the feeling as I normally eat so much I never feel hungry!
Wish me luck, I assume the first couple of pounds I have lost will just be water? I'm going to try and restrict my calorie intake to 1000 and cut out sugar.

PC20 · 02/08/2020 18:47

@awishes welcome.
Everyone here is doing 16:8, some are also counting calories with different targets 800, 1000, 1200. Some are doing LCHF & some cutting out sugar.
Really Interesting about your tinnitus. Hope it continues.

HighlandPeach · 02/08/2020 19:09

Hi everyone! Welcome @awishes!

Tomorrow will be the end of week 5 on Fast 800 for me. So happy with the results so far. I’ve lost just over 9kg (20lbs) in that time. My tummy is nearly flat again!! I don’t look anywhere pregnant now lol. Baby is 2 years old 😂

I’ve bought some lovely new jeans and some tops. I felt really good going out this afternoon, like I’m finally myself again. For me, the plan has given great physical results, as well as improved my wellbeing.

I’ve still got 6 weeks left on the 800 cal plan and another 12-15kg to go to get back to my pre-baby weight. I’m finding the cook book fabulous and think I can get to my goal in another 3/4 months.

Hope everyone’s well 😊

awishes · 02/08/2020 21:20

@HighlandPeach, that's a lot of weight, well done! You have given me inspiration although I am so much older!

ScarletPower · 03/08/2020 09:12

@HighlandPeach - that is a tremendous loss in a short space of time, well done!!!

I hit my lowest weight today (which is only 0.2kg lower than my previous lowest weight but a loss is a loss). So I'm at 6.8kg off (which is 14.9lbs).

I've been buying new clothes too. I was a large 20 / small 22 - with massive belly and huge boobs. But my belly and boobs have really gone down in size and I fit into a new pair of size 18 culottes from Roman.

Still loving this way of eating, it just feels normal now and I do feel that I could eat this way forever. I enjoy every single thing I'm eating and it's no hardship. My previous diet of choice was SW and it was such a bind having to remember healthy extras and trying to find syn values for stuff.

Mind you, I do insist on taking advantage of Eat Out August so my August weight loss might be slow.
