Well done! Think I've finished at about 940, which I'm ok with for the first day.

thenewaveragebear1983 · 23/04/2018 21:12

Well done for all your day one successes!

I was doing brilliantly, but then I had to cook some meat which was coming up to its date - so made some lime and garlic chicken, and a pork casserole- and then picked and grazed at quite a lot of it, So my carbs are still low but the calories are now way over! I’ll try again for an 800 calorie day tomorrow!

PutTheChocEggDown · 23/04/2018 22:23

I've just rechecked MFP and I came in at 887 calories. However it's awarded me over 500 exercise calories which I won't use but at least I won't feel guilty.

Drinking tea and trying not to obsess about food. I'm worried I shouldn't do this diet in case it makes me binge eat. I'm a terrible emotional eater.

DandelionAndBedrock · 23/04/2018 23:10

I'm ending today at more or less bang on 800 calories, plus a spin class.

I thought I was an emotional eater, but I think it is a more deep-set control issue. So far, the reason I am finding these meal plans easy to stick to is because I have to calculate the day in advance, and I can't go off plan, just do what I'm told. I don't trust myself to have any autonomy over food choices yet.

thereinmadnesslies · 23/04/2018 23:13

Ended day 6 on 814 calories, and I’ve lost 4 lbs so far. I’ve been quite hungry today but I’m tired and did a hard yoga class and a 40min cycle ride today so I’m guessing that’s the reason.

PrimalLass · 24/04/2018 08:12

Morning.

Day 2. Quite hungry right now but am trying to ignore it and have coffee.

B: 2 x eggs 130
L: tuna salad 260 (tuna in oil)
D: cauli rice and small portion of Nigella's Keralan fish curry with broccoli. I still have to work out the cals properly but MFP thinks it is 312.

s: sugar-free jelly, bouillon, milk for coffee

thereinmadnesslies · 24/04/2018 09:01

Day 6 and I’m kinda gutted that I’ve only lost 4 and 3/4 pounds so far. I was hoping for 7 or so ....

PrimalLass · 24/04/2018 09:03

That's great in not even a week though.

thenewaveragebear1983 · 24/04/2018 09:07

Therein that’s a great loss!

OP posts:
Belindabelle · 24/04/2018 11:21

Therein keep going. I lost 3lbs overnight from day 6-7 to get the 9lb loss. I had been sitting around 4-5 pounds most of the week.

I had far too much to eat yesterday. All BSD compliant food but huge quantities. I didn’t eat much on Sunday due to not feeling well so can only assume my body was compensating. Actually it’s more likely I was just being greedy.
I have not weighed today and I am going to try and not weigh until Friday at the earliest.

PaulHollywoodsSexGut · 24/04/2018 12:27

New username

New attitude

Stepping on the BSD wagon this weekend after a faltering start at the start of the month then getting ill.

After a crash off the wagon involving lots of rice, some birthday cake and a some fizzy pop I can confirm it WRECKED my guts thus proving the BSD cleans your gut pretty quick and I suspect the weight loss follows after.

See you again next week with renewed determination x

thenewaveragebear1983 · 24/04/2018 12:57

Welcome Paulhollywood, or should that be Welcome back!

Belinda I have days like that regularly, it’s as if I still crave carbs but my brain doesn’t remember that, so I root around eating everything else I can find. Once you’re properly ‘fat adapted’ though, you’ll find that the odd day like that -provided the carbs are low! - doesn’t cause too much trouble once in a while.

PutTheChocEggDown · 24/04/2018 16:40

Well today has been harder because I didn't eat till half one. Got a bit of a headache but tablets took care of it. I've drunk a fair bit of water and coffee.

I have planned 95 calories of potatoes tonight but is there something else I could substitute that is lower carb? I'm having Quorn and cauliflower cheese made with creme fraiche and parmesan so no more cheese or cream.

PrimalLass · 24/04/2018 17:28

I've probably had too much dinner but it was good:

Coconut Dahl
Cauli rice
Cod
Broccoli

PutTheChocEggDown · 24/04/2018 18:44

I traded the potatoes for homemade soup at 67 cals.

thenewaveragebear1983 · 24/04/2018 19:57

Looks delicious primal, I thought it was risotto at first!

I’m closing the kitchen on 1100, which is pretty spot on for a running day, 48g carbs, 16k steps (which included a 3k run and a 20 minute workout from 30 day shred). I’ve been busy today and hungry, and we desperately need shopping so my food choices have been limited. I missed my cheese today!

Doing a big menu plan and shop tomorrow, and I’m really struggling to think of things to cook, we tend to have the same things each week and I’m getting a bit bored! So we’ve planned salmon, sausages, a curry of some sort on Friday, and then I’m a bit stuck for Saturday and Sunday..... I also need to get some really nice salad stuff to pep up my salads. Variety is the spice of life and all...!!

I’m avoiding the scales too Belinda, I found it kept me on track last week and it helped to see a big drop on the scales.

A grazing day as work was absolutely non-stop and I had failed to pack a lunch, so relied on a combo of nuts, cheese, cherry tomatoes, hardboiled egg, after greek yogurt and berries for breakfast. Lovely dinner: roasted courgette and a small sirloin medallion.

Would have been a doddle to come in under 850 cals yesterday and today were it not for the artisanal small-batch dark Italian chocolate with hazelnut I was gifted.

I regret nothing. Grin

Snowglobes · 24/04/2018 22:18

Closed the kitchen at 730 cals but quite a bit of guess work as ate leftovers for lunch and the ingredients of dinner whilst cooking it but didn’t eat finished product (children did) but shouldn’t be too far out.
Do you all weigh your food?
Did pilates and an hour dog walk. Couldn’t resist a weigh in on my new scales still 12st 3lb. I’m going to weigh myself constantly so I can notice any slight fluctuation. Very disappointed that I’ve lost zero. Not drinking my usual copious amounts of wine should be making a huge difference.

PutTheChocEggDown · 24/04/2018 22:40

Well I'm coming in at 900ish. I caved and had an egg scrambled there - just hungry tonight after a walk. It was almost 16:8 - more like 15:9!

How many carbs are we supposed to have? I had pumpkin soup and quinoa today which both have lots of carbs. Struggling to eat enough fat. I've made some rookie mistakes - too much quinoa, too much creme fraiche and parmesan on my veg, a sweet marinade on roasted veg. All of these took precious calories I should have been using for nuts, eggs, avocados etc. Two days down. It's going to be hard sustaining this I think.

PrimalLass · 24/04/2018 22:48

My rookie mistake is too many sly quarter teaspoons of Nutella. Must order some dark choc with the payday shop. I do have some sf choc syrup though so could mix it with a spoon of mascarpone.

thenewaveragebear1983 · 25/04/2018 07:04

Morning, couldn’t resist a weigh in this morning and I’m down just shy of 2lbs so 10.12. It sounds stupid but i woke up feeling really skinny so hence the midweek weigh in that I wasn’t going to do!

Snow globes yes, I try to weigh all my food, especially the big calorie items (cheese, yoghurt, meat (I find the suggested portions on my app are very small) and any carbs- I just have those flat digital kitchen scales and just quickly weigh it). If you’re not doing it, I’d suggest trying if for a few days just for the eye opening effect. Peanut butter for example, is incredibly high in calories, like over 100 cals a teaspoon!! I can though now cut an exactly 30g piece of any cheese by eye, and I’m usually spot on.
Put there’s no carb limit as such, but trying to limit the types of carbs plus sticking to a low calorie count will naturally reduce the carbs you eat. I personally don’t eat grains because I find they make me so hungry- but I’m sure somewhere in the book he refers to it as ‘a taste, not the whole meal’- so I suppose that’s a tablespoon maybe? If you’re feeling hungry then it’s fat you need, which throws all conventional diet wisdom on its head and can be hard to adapt to. So the cream and Parmesan on the veg is great, not a mistake at all!

Very those chocolates sound amazing. I really miss it, and it’s now nearly 4 Months and I think I’ve only had chocolate 1 or 2 times....both times it was quite disappointing how greasy it was. I think I need some Italian artisanal chocolatier to drop me off some of those..... no, no I don’t, I really don’t

Excellent numbers bear!

yes, I was really lucky that a friend just back from travels had brought me some really nice stuff. (She knows about the BSD thing and kindly asked before gifting it to me, so as not to sabotage!) . As you can tell from my blathering, I've been allowing myself small amounts of very dark chocolate to make up for cutting so many other faves. Last two days hasn't been such small amounts but oh well, I managed not to order delivery after a hideous work day, so a bit and then a bit more glam choc was allowable.

I guess the short answer is that I've gotten less strict on BSDing now that I've finished the initial 8 weeks and am into another round. Most days I'm below 900 cals and trying to keep carbs under 40 gr, but a glass of wine and some chocolate or some extra nuts here and there I'm not going to sweat. Given that I'm in this for a pretty long haul, and coming from a really bad state, I figure better to have small treats that allow me to keep the general train moving.

veryveryquietly · 25/04/2018 08:31

snowglobes yes I weigh food that isn't prepacked and labelled. Now that I've been doing it for oh, 14 weeks or so, I do have a much better visual idea of how much certain things come out to; it's all much faster in MFP now as I have my standard, usual stuff as well as several regular recipes in there. The only things I don't weigh/measure at all are salad leaves and dabs of almond milk for coffee, as in both cases it's a pain, I don't add much, and they're so low in cals that they make little difference to daily totals if they're simply guesstimated.

I'm also trying to be really careful how much oil/butter I add for cooking, as it's quite calorie-dense, and am getting better at eyeballing a teaspoon vs a tablespoon. But with nuts (v calorie dense), nut butters, and cooking fats, it's really important to keep track of reasonably precise amounts, because what seems like a small amount can really add up fast. They're good fats, but still - a handful of peanuts (20 grams) has 113 calories! Tasty little devils.

PrimalLass · 25/04/2018 08:32

Morning! I know what you mean about a feeling thin day.

I seem to have lost 6lb in 2 day, which is madness. Two of those are the extra bloating I felt on Monday morning, and which motivated me to start this. In 2lb time I will be at the set point I've struggled to get past for 20 years, so I am very cautious.

My plan is to lose 1.5 stones in 10 weeks.

B: a deliciously Ella ball thing. Far too many carbs but I have it now, coffee
L: chicken and salad
D: fish curry and cauli rice again

veryveryquietly · 25/04/2018 08:36

primal lass how about marscapone/ricotta with some fresh berries, and then grate some dark choc over top? Ricotta with fresh berries (or frozen, for that matter, but fresh getting cheaper now spring is here) is really tasty and a somewhat filling, satisfying dessert. Or you could use only the smallest drizzle of the sf choc syrup and still get the essential taste but it would be more substantial and satisfying (and keep you from going back for more)
