Well done. I have a five chips rule in those situations.

Snowglobes · 04/05/2018 17:29

chocegg I’ll too show you mercy given I drank my body weight in cocktails last night. Hope you’re going somewhere lovely for the weekend like therein!
I’m planning BSD BBQs & home ‘picnics’ over the Bank hol so should stay on track providing I avoid the pimms.
Didn’t dare weigh today but will tomorrow. Friends did say last night that I looked slimmer! Yeah!!! Grin

thereinmadnesslies · 04/05/2018 19:52

Ooh I really like the sound of the five chip rule!!

thenewaveragebear1983 · 04/05/2018 20:14

So..... closing the kitchen on about 1700 today which is fine for a Friday night but not great really! My dinner was amazing- gammon, 5 spice, Chinese veg and Oomi noodles, but the portion was giant and I ate the lot! 55g carbs. 21k Steps and lots of gardening, digging, lifting and generally slogging in the garden, and an 8k run ( taking my total to 400 km run so far this year!)

No, it’s not ideal, but it’s ok. I’m feeling especially hungry at the moment, probably because I’m so busy and pushing my running a lot, but I feel like I’m grazing a lot during the days which is really pushing my calories up. After the BH weekend I really do need to have two very strict weeks, to reset my appetite and break this habit, before going away on holiday. I am finding I am really really craving chocolate and cake at the moment too- I keep considering having it and just managing to say no, but I feel like I’m not controlling it well and it could soon not be so easy to say no. I keep reminding myself that I’m currently the slimmest I’ve been in years and it’s been bloody hard work to get here, which is just about keeping me from cracking, but only just.

Snowglobes · 04/05/2018 21:20

Oh bear I’m pretty sure you’ll have slogged off more than 1700 cals with digging etc plus running!! I always crave chocolate when I’m pre menstrual. I’m sure I read that craving chocolate could be a sign of needing more magnesium - Brazil nuts contain lots.... worth a try?

thenewaveragebear1983 · 05/05/2018 07:44

Thanks snow!

I ate soooooo much last night, I’m definitely pre-menstrual though now you mention it so that’s likely why! I always forget.

Another busy day planned here: more digging and lifting, and running with my friend this morning. Glorious sunny bank holiday forecast- hope everyone’s got plans to make the most of it!

That sounds like a good day. I'm going to make myself go for a walk. Still stuck on the same weight. I knew it would happen but I'm grumpy anyway.

Should have been going out tonight but have an ill child. At least I won't scarf 1000s of calories.

thenewaveragebear1983 · 05/05/2018 08:24

Have also discovered that fever tree light tonic (bought as a treat to go with my pink gin!) is sweetened with pure fructose!! So yes it’s lighter than sugar, and all natural, but probably the devil’s own work when on this plan. That could explain my insatiable appetite last night!

Re our conversation this week about sweeteners, just proves how important it is to read the labels and know what’s in stuff! I’d imagine that artificial sweeteners are less of a problem occasionally than pure fructose?! Will chalk that up to experience m!

OP posts:
PrimalLass · 05/05/2018 08:54

I don't like Fever Tree. Tesco tonic is much nicer and a fraction of the price. Someone on here once confirmed that a top gin expert said it was the best too.

PrimalLass · 05/05/2018 08:55

IMO of course. The elderflower one is lovely.

PutTheChocEggDown · 05/05/2018 08:58

I love Fevertree Elderflower tonic - I sometimes drink it without the gin if I feel like a nice non-alcoholic drink. Must try the Tesco one! A tricky unpredictable day ahead but I'm going to accept things are out of whack and try not to go mad like yesterday. Back on the wagon tomorrow night!

PrimalLass · 05/05/2018 09:10

I'm like that with the Tesco one. I drink bottle and bottles of it without gin. Instead of diet coke.

PrimalLass · 05/05/2018 09:22

Think it's the odd gin this week that has stalled me so going to try 🙄 to not have one for a week and see if that helps.

veryveryquietly · 05/05/2018 09:49

Yikes! yes an excellent reminder to read labels. Definitely get some surprises that way!

Did a whole lot of comparison online and have come up with Smooze Pineapple and Coconut ices as a somewhat BSD-friendly summer ice lolly: per cone, they are 63 cals, tiny bit of fat, 10.9 gr carbs (which is really low for fruit ice treats). The other flavours (pink guava, banana, coconut and mango, plain coconut) come in around the same. Not cheap, but not horribly expensive. Also saw some Greek yogurt frozen lollies that look pretty low cal/low carb, but they were a bit more expensive. Probably could buy a pint of sorbet and exercise restraint...but if there's a whole pint in the house restraint is impossible. So individually packed lollies it is. Time to hit Aldi and read some labels!

As the above suggests, I'm still wrestling the snacking demon. Have ended up building in at least one 'treat' a day because otherwise it all feels too boring and dismal. Luckily as I'm now in my second round of BSDing, it's ok, and my calories come in around 900-925 a day, which does give me room for a treat or two.

Tootyfilou · 05/05/2018 15:02

Hi everyone,
Hope you are all having a lovely day, such beautiful weather! I have been so good, not exceeding my 800 cals, drinking loads, not feeling any hunger pangs. Until this afternoon! I am suddenly starving, I have had my usual breakfast of greek yoghurt and berries, Skinnylicious Thai soup for lunch plus 2000 ml of water and a coffee, and out of the blue I could chew my own arm off.
I am extremely stressed at the moment and I wondered if this is the reason? I am completing ( prevaricating and panicking) a job application for my absolute dream job. I am so tachycardic I can see my heart beating !
I had an excruciating cramp in my calf last night, I never suffer with cramp, has anyone else noticed this?
On my own tonight, planning garlic prawns, courgetti and cherry tomatoes, served on a bed of spinach.

thenewaveragebear1983 · 05/05/2018 15:25

Maybe the cramp and the hunger could be a sign you need some salt? Especially as this diet is diuretic, you can get a bit depleted, and maybe the body craves it in a way you recognise as hunger?

Hello, can I join please? On day 5 of my first go at this. It's all been pretty plain sailing until today. Had a few drinks last night (g&t and white wine), which I decided from the outset I would do; I'm happy to give up food but less happy to give up Friday night drinks! Anyway, today I am absolutely starving. Had a late brunch (egg and salmon stack), then some Greek yogurt and blueberries mid afternoon, and just now some carrot sticks and houmous because I keep feeling dizzy.
Is it all because of drinking? Do I need to rethink my strategy? I've lost 4.5lbs already, which I'm delighted by, and up until today I'd been feeling great.

Tootyfilou · 05/05/2018 16:35

Yes bear I did think it might be lack of salt. I have just eaten a bowl of beansprouts with lots of salt and vinegar on ... surprisingly delicious!

Snowglobes · 05/05/2018 18:06

Salt & vinegar bean sprouts! Grin
I had a smoked salmon salad lunch (rest of the family ate high calorie chorizo so feeling proud). DH even had a glass of wine with his and I was angelic with sparkly water. BBQ tonight with DH’s choices from the butcher so I’ve no idea of calorie content etc. Back to guesswork! But have made a couple of good salads I can fill up on.

PhyllisWig · 05/05/2018 18:30

I have sinned Blush

Yesterday I had alcohol (tiny shot of some German liqueur). Today dd1 made banana chocolate muffins and I had a half teaspoon of mixture plus a nibble of what was left of the muffin paper. Bloody lush both were!

I also went to Nando's but had the Mediterranean salad which was on plan and yum too.

Plateau week definitely this week but back in the 12s when shopping so some other changes. I need to up my water as I've been quite slack this week.

PrimalLass · 05/05/2018 21:02

I've sinned too with a g&t after saying I wasn't going too.

Had half of this for dinner with cauli rice. Lush.

*going to

thenewaveragebear1983 · 05/05/2018 21:28

I’ve sinned too! My strategy has been no calorie counting but meals only- no snacks whatsoever. I’ve stuck to this ok. I ran 7.5 k this morning and been busy all day doing gardening- but some wine has happened this afternoon.....

First aid, welcome- you’ll probably find it’s insulin resistance related. It will throw you out of whack a bit, and affect your carb cravings the next day. He does say in the book you can have a drink, and I definitely do hic! But it will affect your carb- control the next day so it’s worth being aware. It’s definitely possible to have a few drinks at the weekend and still lose weight though, so it’s not terrible.

PutTheChocEggDown · 05/05/2018 22:05

Well I've had two 2000+ cal days so we'll just go ahead and call it a disaster. From tomorrow evening I am back on plan.

thenewaveragebear1983 · 05/05/2018 22:57

So we’re making a unified decision to start again on Tuesday? Yeah?

Decision held
