We are flying up there/Edinburgh over the Easter break. If there are some historic/iconic pools....

Royal Commonwealth Pool in Edinburgh - 50m

The Commie is a nice historic pool, and is in a lovely location. It had a big refurbishment a few years back which was a nightmare at the time, with Tollcross also undergoing works it meant our nationals had to be shifted to Sunderland. The only other 50m pool at the time was the Dollan Baths, which was like swimming through treacle.

If you get across to Glasgow then Tollcross is worth a look.

Good luck for Aberdeen weird. I know a swimmer up there, but others didn't go as weren't being looked at for Paris as they were too young.

My DS did his first two races for counties this weekend, two more next weekend. It's still slightly weird as he is a para swimmer we know which meddles he's get before he enters. Only thing that goes wrong is DQ. Not the best swims, but not the worst and one split was faster than the PB he has for the shorter distance. at this stage I keep being told its experience and my DS can't pace for toffee. here's hoping that will come.

I think the only way it's linked to paris is using times to make British champs selections.

It's the National meet for those swimmers who aren't on Paralympic pathway and/ or world classified.

My ds is excited because he's been invited to swim the freestyle relay as part of qualifying that for the games. Doesn't mean he'll qualify as would have to get an individual time but great experience.

I know re nationals but is you are 14/15 and at school in much of the country it is a long way and a lot of time away from education for little reward even if it is good experience. Those who might get selected have different reasons to want to go. National meets aren't everything when you are young even if they are exciting, the distance makes it a week away for many, and that isn't always realistic.

Oh yeah from a POV of a week out of education and cost the decision what to attend and what not is an ongoing decision for all swimmers. Probably across all sports tbh. Especially because school holidays are not nationally set and the introduction of a large number of academies holidays are even more spread out over periods of time!

We also don't attend all meets his squad do for various reasons. Especially when para swimmers tend to do less events so they don't need to spread 10 events across 3 meets so attending just 1 covers it!

So ds has arrived in Aberdeen.

He got blown in as it was very windy 😂😂

Had a swim at the pool and found out who's in his relay team and caught up the British para swimmers.

So he's a happy young man. 🤞 he swims well 😂

It’s a lovely pool (unless you’re a turn judge on the slightly wobbly boom).

If he’s there on Saturday be aware that Aberdeen are at home to Celtic, kick off at 12.30pm, and the stadium is very close to the pool. Things might get lively, and not just the traffic.

He is there Saturday but will be at the pool at 8am and leaving around 10.30/11am so should be alright.

May have to be back at pool for 4.30 so hopefully most of the football stuff will happen inbetween!

He should avoid it nicely then! I hate getting caught up with football crowds when swimming at the London aquatic centre.

Our home pool shares a car park with the football stadium can be an absolute nightmare 🙈
